Are we doing a theme for gifts this year? Naughty and Merry, maybe? Regardless. You're all getting something special from my most recent journey across the fucking cold wonderland of Siberia. Remember to stay at Hogwarts kids, and not take up Magizoology.

Friends
Do I need to do a proper fancy invite for a New Year's Eve bash at mine? I've given my assistant the rest of the month off, and not sure I have the motivation to owl out a proper invite.

Seeing as its been sometime since you've all been forced to endure exposed to my comical genius, I thought it was time:

  • What kind of math do Snowy Owls do best? Owlgebra.
  • How do polar bears make their beds? With sheets of ice and blankets of snow.
  • What do snowmen eat for breakfast? Frosted Flakes.

Got plenty more to come! Just give us a topic, and I'll reply with a winter jokee on that theme.

Perhaps I am a little crazy, but I have to say, I am very much enjoying the cold turn in weather at the moment. There is just something so magical about Hogsmeade in wintertime, it almost seems wrong when there is no snow on the roofs of the shops and the lake is not a little frozen.

Not sure why my Mum insists on decorating for the holidays with so much glitter. It's in the tree, on the ornaments, I think it's even in the nativity. Pretty sure that wasn't one of the things that was visited upon in that manger, but who am I to say? Just think it's annoying and lingers worse than an attic ghoul. I'd take a moaning whinger over glitter any day. I agreed to help the woman out and now I'm finding bloody sparkles in my coffee. Not on.

I'd say it's a shame I'm not a man with a taste for disco, but I think a taste for disco is the more tragic of the two.

    Important Holiday Poll:
What is your favorite gift or type of gift to receive during the holiday season?

No answer is wrong. Collecting for informational purposes.

    (PRIVATE: FRIENDS SANS ALICE)
Of my many talents, giving gifts is not one of them. Please help me brainstorm an idea for a gift for Alice. Apparently one can only receive so much heart shaped jewelry before it becomes a chore. Sheโ€™d never say that, bless her, but I can read her and her birthday gift was not a success. It was a Disappointment.

Some autumn ponderings from yours truly:

    1. A holiday meant to celebrate a failed assassination attempt is so very British. Meanwhile, get out your Saltires, friends and foes, because St. Andrew's Day is nigh!
    2. It seems to me like the more power a person possesses, the more scared they are of change. Especially when the change threatens to challenge that power. Thoughts?
    3. Ham's decided he doesn't believe in Father Christmas anymore and he's in a right strop with the whole family for being "liars". Can't say I blame him, but it still makes me feel like shite.
    4. Is there anything more revealing about a person than whether they'd pick truth or dare?
    5. I'd sell my soul for a cheese toastie right now.

Big upset this past weekend over sports. Didn't understand a bit of it, but it probably had something to do with balls and hoops and balls going through hoops. Never understood the appeal myself. Much better and far more entertaining things to do elsewhere. Who wants to sit about in the cold watching players who aren't even wearing neat little shorts zip about to a booming announcer? Discos do exist. And pubs.

Granted, once the holidays are properly here, even those spaces aren't safe from carols.

    I might hibernate until January.

It should be illegal for Wimbourne to lose on a Sunday. How am I meant to nurse my grief, hangover, and job at the same time? Grossly unfair, I'd say. Society ought to have some compassion. It is less than a month until my birthday, after all!

I will now continue listening to Rainy Days and Mondays on repeat. If anyone knows a charm to get the needle to skip back to the beginning of a song, feel free to share it! It'd be awfully helpful.

As much as I am not looking forward to the first snowfall, I quite enjoy the encroaching chill. Quidditch practice and brisk walkabouts are much more enjoyable with a bit of a nip in the air. One can always layer up, but there is little one can do to escape the heat.

I'm also looking forward to the holiday season. Hogwarts and Hogsmeade do it up very well, provided you avoid the tree sap and the crowds. Bit difficult to do in Hogsmeade, but the school is manageable. Itโ€™s difficult to believe this will be my final holiday season here. I suppose everyone feels similarly. After seven years, it becomes rather routine in a way.

As long as Gryffindor keeps the ragers parties tame, I might survive to see the new year.

Would've enjoyed listening to the match today, but there was an infestation of doxys near Burford. Apparently that's a big deal because muggles fancy visiting the Cotswold to see different colored leaves? Didn't sound right, seems mad, but that's what they told us. You can see leaves anywhere there's trees? Can't make sense of half the things people do though.

Anyway, Portree blew it again. This season is a mess. Someone spoiled the results before I could tune in. Gonna grab a pint to recover.

If anyone is interested in a dark green velvet fabric, I have a few extra yards! Iโ€™m even willing to craft it into whatever youโ€™d like it to be. Itโ€™d make for a lovely vest or skirt (โ€ฆ) or both! Think Slytherin green, so if youโ€™re an alum itโ€™d be brilliant for you!

Iโ€™m planning my outfits for the upcoming holidays. Itโ€™s never too early! Especially if you find hand sewing relaxing which I do. The repetitiveness is meditative. I even finished my birthday outfit while listening to the Quidditch match today. I may have upset my cuppa once or twice, but not on the fabric thank Merlin!

Speaking of, Iโ€™m upset about Portreeโ€™s loss, but it was a close match and they made a good showing! Iโ€™ll drink to them tonight. Open invitation. Who cares if weโ€™ve work tomorrow?

Currently spinning: Eltonโ€™s new record. Itโ€™s ace. Iโ€™m loving it. I need more fab sunglasses like him. Maybe the holiday markets will have some when they pop up!

Keep Saturday, December 16th, free and clear! Otto and I will be having a little party for our birthday at our Mumโ€™s pub, the Fox and Flower, in Angus, Scotland. No presents, only your presence is required!

When does the holiday season officially kick off? I'm not entirely prepared to begin stress shopping poor gifts for my friends and family just yet, but it would seem the world doesn't care about that. And here I thought December was the mad dash with mulled wine and mince pies at the finish line. Now it appears I have two months to fret before coming up with a practical if silly gift for everyone I know.

Christmas is always a busy time in our office. So many people think it's a good idea to enchant Muggle Christmas decorations in order to outdo each other on the festive front. We even had a seven foot illuminated Father Christmas running rampage in the village of Pucklechurch last year.

Let me tell you, being chased by that thing was not a very jolly experience.

My brother Archie has turned into a proper little homemaker. It's disgusting. He's already gotten the tree up. I've tried to tell him it'll be dead before Christmas, but he seems unphased and went ahead and decorated it anyway. My eyes hurt from the lights and baubles, not to mention the excess of tinsel.

(And yes, ladies, he's somehow managed to stay single. I encourage you to please take him out. He's a working bloke that's fully housetrained and knows how to clean up after himself. I'm told that's a big deal in the heterosexual world).

I much prefer the autumn holidays - better music and better drinks. Who needs eggnog and a yule log?

    What happened to my walls?

I wasn't bothered moving from a fully furnished office with four stationary walls and a door in one department, to a corner desk with two makeshift partitions and no door in another department, that were there this morning when I came in. And it was very funny to come back from my meeting to find the walls gone.

But I'd really like to have them back now...
