( The hairs on the back of his neck stood up on end, his shirt sticking to his chest and back with the cold sweat that had crept up and over him. Panic. Sheer, unadulterated panic. It swelled in his chest, tight and cold, breath pulled in short little gasps that were hardly enough oxygen to soothe his aching lungs. )
