( Everything else faded, the driver of the cab, the other cars, their proximity to the police station as Alex stomped on the gas pedal again, swerved into the empty oncoming lane with the needle in the Hummer skating past thirty, forty, and he got to see her face through the windshield in that last second before the hummer came to a plowing halt in the side of the cab. )

The banquet was, even by Wayne standards, opulent. The ballroom inside the old and storied hotel was unrivaled in the city. Lobster and steak were served, and the bar was open to all guests. A band played contemporary favorites and classical numbers, and the dance floor was filled with socialites wanting to shake hands with the benefactor of the evening. Upstairs, unused conference rooms offered a slight bit of privacy, and all of the hotel's rooms were rented by Mr. Wayne for the evening, with their doors unlocked for guests needing to "freshen up."

All proceeds from the very expensive tickets were earmarked for children's charities throughout the city, and representatives from those charities were present to discuss the eventual plans for the money. All in all, like everything else in Gotham that day, it was a wonderful turnout.

( Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped turned upside down, and I'd like to take a minute just sit on your bottom, I'll tell you all about how I became the Superkid of Gotham. In the capitol of Krypton born and raised, in the El family house is where I spent most of my days. Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool, learning some alien stuff and going to school. When my dad and his cronies got up to no good and started making trouble in my neighborhood. They got in one little fight genocide was assured, my auntie said 'you're moving with your cousin to the planet of Earth.' They whistled for a shuttle, and then they all cheered, Kal's shuttle took off and and I napped for forty years. I landed a little late gave myself quite a scare, but I thought to myself I'd find Kal and we'd share. I went to straight to jail after after getting irate, yelled to my cousin, 'Yo cuz, hide me out there.' He bought an apartment, I'm feeling awesome about to sit on my throne as the Superkid of Gotham )
