LAYOUT OF THE GALA
Dining/seating There are 100 tables configured in a U-shape around a large dancefloor/stage.
Stage/dance floor The dance floor shrinks during presentations and the celebrity auction and expands during dinner and dancing.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
6:00 Welcome Pansy Nott welcomes all attendees, goes over the schedule for the evening, and explains the mission of the charity.
6:30 Dinner A four course meal appears intermittently over the half hour.
7:00 Orchestra/Dancing As the last course--dessert--is served, the orchestra picks up and the dance floor expands for dancing.
7:30 Celebrity Auction The music dims to a soft accent as Pansy Nott and Demo Finnigan-Thomas take the stage to begin the celebrity date auction.
8:30 Concert/Dancing Several musical guests begin performing, kicked off with a duet featuring Wes Carlisle and Violet Nott, and the dance floor expands.
10:00 Function Ends Pansy Nott takes the stage to announce the end of the silent auction. Results will be tallied and winners will receive their goods by 13 July. She announces the end of the gala, though the concert continues until midnight.

Beau Rosier first caught our eye as a cheeky lad on WeeVee's Merlin-under-Hangtree, but he's certainly proved himself a man of many talents, coming in second last year in the reality competition Let's Dance. I know I can't wait to see what role he takes on next! And so, I'd love to cast the opening bid at thirty galleons..."
Blaise Zabini "Our next celebrity hardly needs an introduction, but I do so love talking about him. Ginny Weasley "Everyone knows our favorite red-headed spitfire war hero! Ginny Weasley is Harpies Chaser turned Daily Prophet sports writer and editor, but don't be fooled. A desk job has done nothing to tame the spunk out of her, and a little birdie tells me she's hoping you lovely ladies will join in the bidding for a date with her..."
Harry Potter "I think you'll all agree that heartbroken is not a good look for our most famous of celebrities. Harry Potter, Hogwarts Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, is single and ready to mingle again--at least for a good cause. So ladies, here he is, get him with the winning bid..."
Rachel Turpin-Davies "Our next celebrity is up and coming Holyhead Harpies Chaser, Rachel Turpin-Davis. Quick as a snitch with an instinct for banter, the only thing this flying ace chases is the Quaffle, so you better keep up, cause she won't be chasing you..."
Thad Nott "We do love our Magpies, don't we? Next up is Montrose Magpies Seeker, and my second son, Thad Nott. I know, I know, him being my son doesn't make him famous, but his impressive flying and seeking certainly does! Large events like these always seemed to make Jules a ball of anxiety. Of course, it probably had something to do with the higher levels of energy, of that psychic input she couldn't always shut out when she was in such a crowd. And although she loved her dress, she also felt a bit that she was playing dress-up. But this event meant so much to her mum, and she wasn't going to do anything to ruin the night for her. She'd picked at her dinner, sitting between Peter and dad, managing to eat enough of it that neither of them would looks askance at her, but when the orchestra struck up and the dance floor expanded for those who might want to dance before the auction, that restless energy coursing through Jules wouldn't let her sit any longer.

Wandering through the tables, she smiled at the people she knew, stopping to chat casually a few times, before finding herself on the edge of the dance floor. Once she was there, though, she wasn't sure what she was doing. It wasn't as though anyone were going to ask her to dance.

As a social person big events were a joy for Daani, especially ones which contributed to some bigger picture amount of good. And as someone who worked and thrived in the field of languages she thought it was such a good cause. Plus an excuse to dress up and not cook was always fun. Still, there was a small niggle at the back of her mind. Something she was forgetting.

She re-secured her sari, which she had taken far too much time to choose, and wandered towards the dancefloor. She still needed to go towards the silent auction, but she could stand to watch the people who had already moved towards the music for a while. As she watched a few couples dancing with varying degrees of skill she kept returning to one in particular. It took her a minute to connect the pieces, but as she did she gave a barely audible gasp and took a step back, accidentally knocking into a young woman behind her.

"I'm so sorry," she said, rapidly turning away from the woman she had realised was pregnant. Although not as heavily as Daani might have been right now if things had been different. She pressed her hands to the woman's arm in apology, automatically mustering up a smile. Even if it felt rather brittle all of a sudden.

James had surprisingly good time at the formal event. A lot of the ones he ended up attending for one reason or another were boring, but he really should have known better where Pansy Nott was concerned, having attended her events before. She always had good attractions, a well scheduled plan, and interesting things happening. Heck, he knew half of his generation was here for this after-dinner concert which started out featuring her daughter and Wes Carlisle.

He had seen Fiona during different parts of the gala and had dropped by her table early on to say hello. She looked lovely. He was in the middle of trying to decide if he was going to duck out after the auction and before the concert, as honestly part of the auction had made him want to crawl under one of the Weasley tables and hide. Oh, it wasn't as bad as it could have been, it was true, but there was definitely something about having one's parents auctioned off that made a kid squirm and want to disappear.

But then he caught sight of Fiona again and smiled, shifting his feet to take him in her direction again. He cleaned up pretty well all things considered.

"Are you staying for the concert and festivities?" he asked.

It had been a rather enjoyable evening, all things considered. Certainly, the celebrity date auction was a bit odd, especially with seeing someone she'd literally grown up with up on stage. She loved Gavin as much as she loved any of her cousins, but she couldn't imagine bidding on a date with him, much less anyone else. Thankfully for Mrs. Nott, there were plenty of people present who seemed plenty comfortable with bidding to win a date with the celebrities who had volunteered.

Fiona had, at least, found something she was plenty interested in while looking through the silent auction items, and she didn't hesitate to place a bid for the Kit Higgs sculpture. It was positively lovely, and she rather thought that if she didn't win the bid, she would have to look the artist up and buy something directly from him. Maybe she would even if she did win it.

Although she'd been in the middle of a conversation with Clary, she noticed James right away as he started toward her, and she brushed her hands over her gown in a small outward sign of anxiety. Which was ridiculous, because she was always so comfortable around him. Perhaps it was because this wasn't a casual or work setting. They were both dressed up, and she couldn't deny that he looked quite dapper. She smiled at him as he reached her, nodding her head at his question.

"I think so, oui. I want to get in a final bid before the silent auction ends, and I've heard the lineup for the concert will be rather exciting," she answered, her stomach fluttering in a rather ridiculous manner.

This, Albie thought, might be his personal hell. What exactly had he done to not only see both of his parents being auctioned off on charity dates but for his mother to apparently come out as bisexual while doing so? Not that he was exactly straight as an arrow, but that was beside the point.

Albie moved away from the main action while his dad was being paraded about. He needed something stronger to drink and wasn't above sweet-talking the bar staff.

Rori thought this whole thing was a blast. Granted, she liked the auctions in America a bit better, though Pansy Nott definitely threw a wonderful one. It was something about the types of auctioneers they had back home that was a lot of fun.

She'd taken Jules up on the dress night offer, since she wasn't exactly in the rich league of most of these people, and had claimed for the night the stunning pants suit that she could never afford in a decade. She looked way fancier than she felt. As the auction proceeded, she volunteerred to go up to the bar to refresh everyone's drink orders, given she had no personal stakes in the auction itself.

She sidled up next to the man at the bar and gave the bartender her order before glancing over him, grinning a bit. "That's one wild suit," she said.

It was a good thing her parents had been willing to buy Scarlett a ticket to the charity gala, otherwise she might have had to find some older man willing to bring her as his date, in which case she would have been stuck feigning interest in him, and how boring would that be? As it was, she'd enjoyed the evening and had even managed to find a gorgeous dress in a discount store that only needed a few minor repairs and adjustments. All things she could handle just fine on her own, thankfully, since she couldn't really afford to pay someone else to do it.

But the dinner had been fine--not her usual taste, but she'd never been into fancy dining--but it was the charity date auction that had her wishing more than ever before that she was bleeding rich. It started with Beau, and she'd grown up watching him on the telly, and he was so damn hot. And he wasn't the only one she wished she could bid on. But alas, she would just have to enjoy the eye candy, she supposed.

Until, after the date auction was finished and the concert in full swing, she spotted the actor on the edges of the dance floor near the bar. Shoulders back and exuding confidence as she walked toward him, though even in her three inch heels, she was still shorter than him. Although he was shorter than she'd realized, Scar noticed when she reached him.

"Oh hi!" she greeted him, holding out her hand to him. "I was just going to hit the dance floor--would you mind holding this for me?" It was cheesy and fun, but she rather hoped the pick-up line would at least make him laugh and maybe even earn her a dance with him.

Being auctioned off for charity hadn't been Beau's idea but there was a reason she'd been his publicist for so long. He was confident that she wouldn't steer him wrong and raising his profile a little more before the official WeeVee announcement wouldn't hurt; raising money for charity and being seen publicly on a date with a woman would never hurt his reputation.

Hopefully when he was done with his performance he'd be able to catch up with Wes, but until then Beau had been nursing a firewhiskey and enjoying the music. He knew that it was only a matter of time before someone asked him to dance, but he hadn't been expecting a pick up line.

Caught off guard he smiled widely. "How could I say no to a request like that?"

Aldrich had volunteered for the gala when the invitations had first gone out, he always loved covering these sorts of things. Paid to enjoy himself and have a good time, how could anyone not love it?

Tonight was no different, he reminded himself as he walked up to where he was to meet Addison. Pansy was already starting her welcome speech, and he really shouldn’t have been talking. “You look beautiful,” he stage-whispered to Addison, unable to help that crooked grin stretched across his face.

He struck a pose then, something reminiscent of John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever, all hips, showing off his suit. “I don’t seem to clean up too bad myself,” he complimented himself, no need for anyone else to.

Addison had been at the fairgrounds for a couple of hours already, having been given the seal of approval from Mrs. Nott to come photograph the setup and make sure she was ready to take pictures of the attendees arriving. She'd dressed sharply but professionally, a few sticky charms applied to ensure that her top didn't gape anywhere and give anyone a peak of something they had no business looking at.

But her outfit paired with the heels made her feel strong and powerful and confident, and she was utterly in her element, taking a mix of candid and posed photographs. She'd even almost forgotten that Aldrich was also working the event.

Almost.

Of course, the brief thought seemed to make him appear before her, and she smiled slightly at him, feeling a bit annoyed at that weird fluttering in her belly at his antics. But Aldrich had always been fun to be around, and their breakup hadn't been about him at all. Not that it mattered, because she'd moved on, and she felt far more comfortable and hopeful with Peter than she ever had with Aldrich. "It's those good genes you inherited," she accused lightly. "I got a few lovely pictures of your parents, by the way." Though thankfully there hadn't been much time for the couple to really talk to her, even if Genevieve had given her a rather complicated look.

The orchestra had just started up, and Jaimeson’s relief had come to relieve him moments later. He had wandered away to get himself water, and while on the way he caught sight of her again. He had first noticed her when she had arrived, one of the perks of the job. He was supposed to pay attention to who was coming and going.

Lucy looked absolutely stunning in that red dress, giving him ideas about asking to unwrap her. Now that he found himself with a few free moments, what could it hurt to ask her to dance?

Jaimeson made his way through the crowd to her, all thoughts of a drink gone. “Would you care to dance?” he asked, giving her one of his wide toothy smiles that he enjoyed sneaking at work. It was good to see her technically outside of the office.

Although she'd thought she was in love with the dress she'd sent Molly a picture of last week, Lucy was relieved when she'd found her true dream dress before her sister had gotten to making her new dress, and they were able to change it to the new design in time. Her dress was a little less modest at the chest than she typically preferred, but she absolutely loved the fully bodied skirt and the shape of the open back. She'd even got her hair styled in an updo that left her back exposed in just the right way. And even better? She didn't have to work tonight, which meant she could fully enjoy dressing up to this degree, thanks to her dad for buying their little family tickets to the event.

Lucy was a little surprised when anyone came up to ask her to dance so early in the evening, but she was even more surprised when she saw who it was. Jaimeson hadn't been with the Minister's protection unit for that long, but as part of the Minister's PR team, Lucy was well aware of all the staff directly involved with the Minister. It was also difficult not to notice him since he always made it a habit to catch her eye at work, throwing flirtatious expressions her way and such. He was a bit over the top for her preference, and she often found herself rolling her eyes at him.

"You've been relieved already?" she asked, surprised, though perhaps he'd been on the day shift already and would have been off around this time even without the gala going on. It occurred to her that she'd not answered his question, but she wanted to know the answer to hers first.

Clary had enjoyed the night, as much as an introvert like her could, at least. She'd spent a fair amount of it with her family, as well as with Fiona and Jules and Scarlett and some others. But as was her nature, she tended to stay in the background, a watcher rather than a participater, overlooked by many. It didn't bother her - she wasn't really one to put herself out there. She enjoyed the watching, the observing.

She did love the dress that she'd gotten, though. It made her feel pretty. She unconsciously fingered one of the flowers as she approached the bar, a bit flushed and definitely parched, and ordered a non-alcoholic cocktail, definitely feeling the wine she'd had earlier and wanting to get back on a more event keel.

Tina was having the best night. She had arrived with Miguel, enjoyed dinner with the family, and enjoyed dancing with Miguel. It was a lot of people time for Tina however, and so by the time Wes and Violet were hitting the stage, she was needing a break. She had whispered to Miguel that she was going to be stepping away, before she slipped away to get a glass of water from the bar.

To her relief, she saw her cousin was there as well. Once she had placed her order for her water, she then tapped Clary on the shoulder. "You look gorgeous!" she called out, giving her cousin a wide and toothy smile that looked just like her mother's. She lifted her own skirt a smidge to show her cousin. "We had similar ideas, flowers," she said happily, pointing out the little design on her dress.

The night was going fantastically. She had arrived on the arm of the most attractive person there, Phoenix. That alone was enough to ensure she would have a good night, but she was also wearing the dress that Wes had sent to her just a few weeks prior. It had given her goosebumps when she’d slipped into it the first time, it had fit like a glove. No one had ever been able to do that before, at least no one that wasn’t Phoenix.

She had enjoyed the orchestra, dinner had been devine, and the private concert had kicked off. Wes had been right that first night, Violet really did have talent. It didn’t make Penny like the other woman any more, but she wasn’t dense enough to deny the woman’s talent.

With the end of the auction nearing, she knew she needed to check in on it soon. She had promised to save a dance for Wes, and she really wanted to have that dance first. They hadn’t spoken much since Morocco, Penny worried they wouldn’t get along now that they were back home. That didn’t stop her from approaching him when she noticed him near the bar, tapping him on the shoulder. When he turned to her, she gave him a little spin in the dress, petite silver heels giving her the height she’d been missing last time they’d gotten together. “What do you think?”

Wes enjoyed the rubbing shoulders part of events like this as much as strutting about on the stage while attendees bid on a date with him. It didn't even matter who'd won the auction--he'd make sure it was a good time regardless of the winner. He also quite enjoyed being on stage with Violet again, and he definitely intended to find out if she wanted to go home at the end of the night. And if she didn't, well, he certainly had ideas of how he could entertain himself.

And there was one such piece of that idea, he thought, smirking as he turned toward Penny. "Well, hello Miss Ahuja," he murmured, eyes taking in every delectable inch of her as she spun for him. "I think I have a very good eye," he answered, setting his drink down and giving her his full attention.

Tonight had been an interesting night, her father had gotten a table for their family. This time instead of just her siblings, his fiance and her children had been seated with them as well. While it hadn’t been so weird, it had been awkward enough that Kenzie was already tired of being around people by the time the performances started.

After watching Scar slip on to the dance floor with one of the most gorgeous men she had ever seen in person, she slipped off towards the edge of the party. It was quiet here, and Kenzie felt like she could finally take a breath.

She gave a quick glance around, and once she was certain she wouldn’t be bothering anyone else, she pulled a small glass bowl from a hidden pocket in her dress. She turned her back to the party, choosing that moment to spark up the bowl. She was just slipping it back into the hidden pocket, when she turned to blow out the smoke, and found someone standing near. “Oh! Shite, I’m so sorry,” she apologized, only after she exhaled, hands coming up to try to push away the skunky smell of her weed.

Charlie hadn't hugely wanted to come to the event, not that he didn't enjoy a good party or support the cause, but a date auction was pretty much the end of his list of things he wanted. Thankfully the silent auction items were rather more interesting and he'd bid on a handful. He didn't think that had been the intention when several of his less-understanding colleagues had insisted that he was one of the teachers allowed out for the gala. They seemed to have missed the part where there were far too many of his relatives or former students in the dating mix.

Still, he'd been having a decent time and eventually slipped away to prop up one of the quieter walls after being spotted by a woman who seemed both tipsy and incapable of taking no for an answer. He had a large scotch nursed in his hand and his suit and dark red tie seemed to have missed any food splashing down it. He had slipped easily into the shadows, something he had plenty of practice at from dealing with animals. So it was easy to see why Kenzie hadn't spotted him when she came in his direction to have a sneaky smoke. He slipped out of the shadow and she almost ran into him. He laughed.

"Yeah, not a problem, although maybe pull out the freshening spells if you don't want people to smell that shit," he said, distinctly amused. He had absolutely no issue with a weed habit, and he had definitely indulged in the past. Fuck he'd indulge now if he hadn't signed the kind of contract that meant he really shouldn't. He recognised Kenzie easily enough and gave her a smile. Not one of his best students, but a former student nonetheless. Always a bit weird at first.

Dinner had been only a touch awkward. Her mother was angry, of that much Tina was certain. She hadn’t said anything, but Tina could tell in the way she had politely interrogated Miguel. It was absolutely mortifying, and the moment they could get away, Tina made sure they did.

It wasn’t until they were sitting at the table that Tina realized she had never told her mother who she was bringing as a date. Just from the look on her mother’s face, Tina knew she wasn’t happy. Thankfully, her mother didn’t seem to be in the mood to start a scene tonight. Instead, she was trying to play a sly detective, and failing miserably. Tina wasn’t sure if it was the pointed question about what he’s been doing since their break-up, or if it was the pointed question about how they’d gotten back together.

Dessert had showed up moments later, and dancing was starting. She excused herself from the table, texting Miguel the second she was far enough from the table her mother wouldn’t notice. She let him know where she was hiding out along the edges of the dance floor, enjoying not being around her mother’s judgmental gaze. It made her feel sick, and really she had no idea why her mother thought she had room to talk. She hadn’t even mentioned she was dating, then she was engaged to Uncle Hyperion?! How in the world was it fair that her mother judged her?!

When Jaimeson had come back from his break, there were too many bodyguards and not enough Minister. He had been relieved, since he was the first to leave tonight anyway. It all worked out, so he was able to stay at the party and enjoy the music.

He had slipped away into the crowd, enjoying the live music, and the crush of the people. He was catching hints of that gorgeous red dress Lucy had been wearing and tried to chase it, but he always seemed to be two steps behind.

He finally found his way to the bar, no longer however wearing his jacket. It had been shrunk and stuck in a back pocket hours ago. "Can I get a water?" he called out to the bartender, still not drinking. He may not have been working anymore, he wanted to stay sharp. Just in case.

The gala had started off on a weird foot, but Aldrich wasn't going to let it ruin his night. He had plans to turn it all around, he just needed to remember what he'd been most excited about when he'd been getting ready. He couldn't wait to see Athena, he knew without a doubt that she would positively dangerous. He just hoped whatever she'd worn, it'd work on the back of his bike.

He had first noticed Athena during dinner, she was seated with her family, and his Aunt Zee's family. It didn't seem the time to interrupt, and so he'd slipped off to sit with the rest of the press.

Now, during the celebrity auction, he caught sight of her again. He had a ridiculous smile before he even made his way through the crowd to her. "Has anything caught your eye yet?" he asked casually, coming to stand beside her.

Tina was walking on air and absolutely nothing could ruin it. Miguel had asked her to marry him, and of course she'd said yes. They were meant to be, she just knew it. It was why she was confident that they should be tracking her mother down to let her know that they were leaving. She wanted to get back to Miguel's place and properly celebrate their engagement.

She found her mother and Uncle Hyperion talking near the dance floor. "We just wanted to say goodbye, I think we're going to head back," she said. Tina gave her mother a ridiculous smile, which made Zahara laugh.


"Are you alright? I take it, all is forgiven?" Zahara asked curiously, but she wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth. She wrapped arms around her daughter, squeezing her in a hug. She was determined to try to treat Miguel better. So when Tina pulled away, she reached out to give him a quick hug as well.

"Definitely not," slipped from Tina's lips before she could help herself.

It had been an eventful night. Penny had come on the arm of the most handsome person she knew, Phoenix. They had rubbed elbows with the best of them, and then she’d gotten to dance with Wes. While it hadn’t lasted long, it had been almost as good as sex with him. There wasn’t a chance on the planet Penny would admit to it, but she definitely had a soft spot for the musician.

She was still hanging about the gala because she had only just gotten all of the silent auction items squared away, and she thought she’d see what everyone else was up to. She had intentions of going home with Phoenix and stealing some snuggles, so long as nothing better came along for either of them.

For the first time, in far too long, she was happy. Her business was opening in less than a month, her sex life was fantastic, and absolutely no one was expecting anything of her. She got to do her thing and enjoy life, what more could she ask for? Penny found herself dancing to the music, something she usually only did after a lot of coaxing from someone else. Tonight had been such a success in her eyes, that she found herself dancing alone. That was, until she did a spin and found herself face to face with Hailey. “Sorry!” she called out, dark orbs impossibly wide for just a moment. It was the first time she’d seen her in person since the text messages that had gone so badly.

Coira looked around at all the beautiful people cycling through the room gazing at the artefacts that benefactors had generously donated. "Relax." She reminded Vi who was looking nervously at the stage where Wes stood with the rest of the Celebrities as an enchantment continually read the bios that had been edited and approved for the event.

Coira shifted in her black floor length gown continuing to take in the room. A far cry from the bars and music halls she performed in she took a deep breath and nudged Vi playfully. It wasn't her night and for once she was oddly at peace with that.

Galas and Gowns made Rachel feel uncomfortable. After being announced in the auction she couldn't help fidgeting with the back of her dress as she descended the stage with the rest of the lucky group.
