RP: The Literacy Flourishes Charity Gala
Who: Everyone! Please add your tags!
What: The Literacy Flourishes charity gala and celebrity date auction.
When: 10 July 2027
Where: Fairgrounds outside Cardiff

Completion Status: Ongoing!
Notes: To bid in either auction, click the link in the auction header and bid on that page, comments are screened there. Please feel free to have individual scenes throughout the evening and make sure to label your headers accordingly!


LAYOUT OF THE GALA
Dining/seating There are 100 tables configured in a U-shape around a large dancefloor/stage.
Stage/dance floor The dance floor shrinks during presentations and the celebrity auction and expands during dinner and dancing.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
6:00 Welcome Pansy Nott welcomes all attendees, goes over the schedule for the evening, and explains the mission of the charity.
6:30 Dinner A four course meal appears intermittently over the half hour.
7:00 Orchestra/Dancing As the last course--dessert--is served, the orchestra picks up and the dance floor expands for dancing.
7:30 Celebrity Auction The music dims to a soft accent as Pansy Nott and Demo Finnigan-Thomas take the stage to begin the celebrity date auction.
8:30 Concert/Dancing Several musical guests begin performing, kicked off with a duet featuring Wes Carlisle and Violet Nott, and the dance floor expands.
10:00 Function Ends Pansy Nott takes the stage to announce the end of the silent auction. Results will be tallied and winners will receive their goods by 13 July. She announces the end of the gala, though the concert continues until midnight.

CELEBRITY AUCTION

Beau Rosier "To kick off our celebrity date auction is our favorite child actor all grown up! Beau Rosier first caught our eye as a cheeky lad on WeeVee's Merlin-under-Hangtree, but he's certainly proved himself a man of many talents, coming in second last year in the reality competition Let's Dance. I know I can't wait to see what role he takes on next! And so, I'd love to cast the opening bid at thirty galleons..."
Blaise Zabini "Our next celebrity hardly needs an introduction, but I do so love talking about him. Blaise Zabini, owner and editor of the Daily Prophet and perpetual bachelor, has set many a heart a-flutter, though none have managed to usurp the love he has for the paper. Win the bid for a date with him, and perhaps you'll have that special something he can't resist..."
Gareth Wagtail "Although our next celebrity is best known for a drunken fly over a muggle village last winter, Gareth Wagtail is a fantastic retired Chaser and current trainer for the Montrose Magpies. Outbid everyone else for a date with him, and I'd bet you'll be in for a wild ride..."
Gavin Montgomery "The Montrose Magpies have taken the league by storm this season with the help of our next celebrity. Gavin Montgomery, one of the best Beaters we've seen on the pitch since Cooper Reynolds' days on a broom, has quite the reputation of disappointing anyone who wants to snare his attention for more than a night, but just imagine all that intensity focused on only you for that single night! Who will start the bidding..."
Ginny Weasley "Everyone knows our favorite red-headed spitfire war hero! Ginny Weasley is Harpies Chaser turned Daily Prophet sports writer and editor, but don't be fooled. A desk job has done nothing to tame the spunk out of her, and a little birdie tells me she's hoping you lovely ladies will join in the bidding for a date with her..."
Harry Potter "I think you'll all agree that heartbroken is not a good look for our most famous of celebrities. Harry Potter, Hogwarts Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, is single and ready to mingle again--at least for a good cause. So ladies, here he is, get him with the winning bid..."
Rachel Turpin-Davies "Our next celebrity is up and coming Holyhead Harpies Chaser, Rachel Turpin-Davis. Quick as a snitch with an instinct for banter, the only thing this flying ace chases is the Quaffle, so you better keep up, cause she won't be chasing you..."
Thad Nott "We do love our Magpies, don't we? Next up is Montrose Magpies Seeker, and my second son, Thad Nott. I know, I know, him being my son doesn't make him famous, but his impressive flying and seeking certainly does! Don't let his bachelor reputation fool you, his dad and I have raised him to appreciate and value relationships, and don't those usually start with a first date? Who will start the bidding..."
Victoire Weasley "If you find it almost impossible to look away from our next stunning celebrity, that's because Victoire Weasley is part veela via the Delacour family and a world-renowned fashion model. Although she enjoys the jet set life, she's no Beauxbaton airhead. Fluent in several languages and quick-witted, you'll think you're in love by the end of the night..."
Wes Carlisle "Our final celebrity of the night has been charming us through the radio and on the stage for a decade. Wes Carlisle relishes sensuality and luxury, and is sure to show the woman--or man--who wins a date with him the best of times. I'm told there may even be a private concert in it for the lucky bidder. And if you're particularly clever, maybe you'll get a sneak peak at this new project Wes has hinted at..."

When her stomach gave a flip, she attributed it to the anger that she could still feel over her mother's judgement. It definitely wasn't Liam. He was... Well, he was Liam. One of her closest friends and favorite co-worker.

Tina absolutely lit up, eyes sparkling as they met Liam's gaze. "Hey," she said, and before she could think of anything else to say, he was asking her to dance. Subconsciously, her hand moved to slip the phone she had been on moments before into her pocket, while her head bobbed in a nod. "I'd love to, I love dancing," she admitted with a flush.

Her hand slid into his, becoming a little too aware of how warm it felt in her own. Without a second thought, she was moving with Liam, one hand coming to rest on his shoulder, as the other still held his. She didn't want to let it go just yet. "You look so dashing tonight, who knew you could clean up so well," she teased in a soft voice.

His smile broadened when she agreed to a dance, and before he could think to stop himself, he found himself saying, "I know you do," as he remembered the way she'd danced, looking so free and relaxed, when they'd gone to that first little bar concert together a few months back.

When her hand slid into his, he gave her a little tug to bring her onto the dance floor with him and then rested his hands at her waist, high enough to be entirely appropriate and respectful yet still closer than he would have danced with his mother or sister or cousin.

"Oh, come on, I'm no slob!" he claimed with a soft chuckle. "But you look amazing, of course." And she did. It definitely wasn't something she would ever wear in the lab, and he wasn't blind. She was gorgeous--even though that wasn't his primary focus when he looked at people, he wasn't blind.

How had he known just what she needed and then appeared, as if from no where, to help her? She felt all warm inside as she moved so easily with him, very aware of his hands on her hips, and her hands against his shoulders. "You really think so? I felt a little under dressed compared to some of these ladies. I saw this absolutely gorgeous dress, all glittering rhinestones," she said in a rush. He had said she looked amazing, of course. It made her heart race. She wasn't thinking about that, she shouldn't be thinking about that.

Liam swayed to the music, not a terrible dancer, but nothing to write home about either. The orchestra was playing something slow, though, which he rather decided meant they were just fine doing so. "Oh yeah? I didn't notice that one," he admitted, though he didn't bother looking around to try to find the dress in question. "This suits you though. It's like... bohemian formal?" His lips quirked as he considered it, finally giving a nod of approval, as though he'd been right in his assessment.

Was it getting warm in there? She was certain it was warmer on the dance floor, but something said that wasn't why she was so warm. Her head bobbed at his first question, and her hazel eyes lit up at his assessment. "You always see me," she said in a soft voice. "Even in a crowded room." Her hands on his shoulders squeezed then, resisting the urge to hug him. She was enjoying swaying to the music and something told her if she hugged him just then, her mother would have more fuel for her fire.

...Why had she been angry at her mother again?

"How could I not?" Liam murmured, far more caught up in the moment than he realized. There was probably someone else he should have been thinking of, someone else he should have been dancing with, but in that moment, he saw and thought of only Tina. His coworker and friend. And even if things were shifting for him, odds were he was still a long ways off from realizing it.



Families could be complicated and messy--if anyone could understand that, it was Miguel--but while he hadn't exactly expected a warm reception from Celestina's mum, he did find himself a little annoyed at the interrogation. Yeah, he'd fucked up last year. Once. But he'd confessed on his own and accepted the consequences she'd decided on. He knew how precious this second chance was, and he had no intention of hurting Les again. He did, at least, answer her mum's questions as calmly and honestly as he could, reaching over under the table to squeeze Les's hand when it seemed the frustration was getting to her.

When he excused himself from the table a few minutes after Les left and messaged him, it was obvious they knew he was going after her, but he wasn't going to apologize for it. His girlfriend was upset, and he was going to be there for her. Of course, when he got to the spot she'd told him she'd be, she wasn't there, and he glanced around with furrowed brows.

And then he spotted her dancing with Liam. The co-worker she was always way too eager to stay late at work with. Anger and jealousy reared up in him, the impulse to grab her away from the other man almost too strong, but he managed to get his head in time. He wasn't about to do anything to push her away when he'd just got her back!

Instead, he walked calmly up to the pair, letting his lips curve in a charming smile. "Excuse me," he interrupted them, pointedly without physical contact. "Mind if I cut in?"

Tina had lost track of time, and her phone, when Miguel was suddenly standing there. Hazel eyes grew large, a guilty feeling rushing over her. She chided herself silently, there was nothing to be guilty about. Liam was her co-worker, they were enjoying each other's company. Why did it feel so strange to have them both in the same place though?

"Miguel!" she greeted him, sounding a little too surprised, which caused her cheeks to flush. She stepped back from Liam so that Miguel could in fact cut in. "Of course you can," she said happily, holding one hand out for Miguel's. "Liam was keeping me company until you could get away. I hope they weren't too terrible after I left," she said with the slightest pout. She would have something to feel guilty about if they had been.

Liam looked a little surprised and confused at the interruption, Miguel noticed, but he had to give the man credit, as only a brief moment later he had the grace to look contrite as he took a step back and removed his hands from Miguel's girlfriend. Miguel gave him a brief nod before dismissing him, giving Les his full attention.

Taking her hand, Miguel pulled Celestina in close, his other arm wrapping around her waist, his hand splaying across that delectable expanse of skin exposed between her top and skirt. "Oh, they were fine," he said with a slight shrug before leading her into a dance a little more formal than what she and Liam had been doing. But then, he'd had some lessons as a kid, and they'd certainly stuck. "I love you, babe. Your mum's not going to scare me off with her worries," he promised.

With Liam stepping back, Tina's smile dimmed just enough to be noticed. She really didn't want him to go, but she knew she needed to spend time with her boyfriend. She'd see him on Monday, she was being ridiculous. She gave him a small smile, before allowing herself to be swept away by Miguel.

Something she would always love doing was dancing, and dancing with Miguel was one of her favorite date night activities. He had so much grace, and it felt wonderful to be moving around the floor with him. She relaxed into his arms, one slipping around his shoulder, while the other rested against his chest. She pressed close, as close as was possible, while they were still able to dance together. "Thank you, I think... There's this small part of me that worries she might... She's now marrying Uncle Hype, which," she just went quiet a moment, shaking her head, patting her hand that was against his chest.

"Let's not talk about them, I want to enjoy tonight with you," she declared, straightening herself enough to steal a kiss from him. That weird guilty feeling in the pit of her stomach just getting worse.

Miguel let her babble that little bit without interruption, and at her declaration, he went in for a kiss at the same time she did, warmth spreading through him. It was brilliant that they could still be so in sync even after a year apart, and he couldn't wait to see how that synchronicity would grow over the years.

And as he looked at her as they danced, another impulsive urge overwhelmed him, on that wouldn't be ignored. "Will you marry me, Les?" he asked, soft and a little breathless and jittery with how damn right it felt! "I love you so much, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Let's get married!" He couldn't imagine her saying no, not after they'd finally found their way back together.

When he first said it, she just sort of stared at him a moment in shock. What had he said? He hadn't said that had he? Hazel eyes were bright as dawning showed in them, squeezing him tightly when he said it again.

"Yes, yes," she said enthusiastically, kissing him again. It was a serious of small pecks, but she kept giggling in excitement between each one. This was what she'd wanted for ages, she wanted to spend the rest of her life with this man. Of course she wanted to marry him, her mother be damned. "I want to dance together when we're old," she cooed happily, before peppering him in kisses again. "You really mean it?" she asked, her tone full of wonder.

She said yes? Holy fuck, thank the lord, she said yes! His smile stretched from ear to ear. They were going to get married? Really? He could hardly believe it! She was everything he'd always wanted, and Miguel swore he wasn't going to do anything to lose her this time!

"We will!" he promised, never wanting to stop dancing with her. "I really mean it, babe. Whenever, however you want to do it, though I vote for sooner rather than later," he quipped. He would marry her tonight if she wanted. He knew there was one small pocket where you could elope without prior ministry paperwork filed.

Her head bobbed a few times, that smile only growing. "I-I," she stuttered a moment, before kissing him quickly. "I just need to tell my mom first," she said happily, because her mother had to be happy for her. She would see, she had to see, that Miguel was her soulmate. Things would work out, she was sure of it. All thoughts of his infidelity were out the window, she trusted him, he was her other half.

"Miguel," she said suddenly, nearly bursting with excitement. "We need to celebrate." She started to step away, letting her hands slip down his arms, until she held his hands. "Did you know that I learned about these wonderful lifting charms tonight," she said casually, as she continued to walk backwards. "They help when you don't want any lines ruining your beautiful dress." Her heart raced, she had never been so bold, but they were engaged. A little snogging in the corner wouldn't be the worst thing, would it?

"Okay, yeah, we'll tell her together," Miguel promised her. He wasn't worried about it. Sure, with the interrogation he'd suffered earlier, he could imagine her mum wouldn't be thrilled, but this wasn't up to her. It's not like she'd consulted Les before getting engaged to Hyperion.

Brow quirking as he wondered just what she had in mind, he followed as she started moving away from him. "Yeah, we do," he agreed easily, certain that whatever she had in mind would be quite fun indeed. And then she mentioned the lifting charms, and naturally, that sent his mind straight to the gutter. "Hmmm, tell me more," he urged, his hands slipping from hers to grip her hips in anticipation, keeping close as she walked backward.

"I'd much rather show you," she said, just before she turned around to be sure she was watching where she was going. She led the way from the dance floor, off to the side closer to the tables. When she found the spot she liked, she pulled him into the shadows with her, slipping slender arms around his neck. "I love you," she murmured, just before kissing him. She pressed the length of her body against his, enjoying the feel of her fiance against her. It was far too early in the night to slip back home to celebrate, so a quick snog was going to have to do.
