RP: The Literacy Flourishes Charity Gala

What: The Literacy Flourishes charity gala and celebrity date auction.
When: 10 July 2027
Where: Fairgrounds outside Cardiff

Notes: To bid in either auction, click the link in the auction header and bid on that page, comments are screened there. Please feel free to have individual scenes throughout the evening and make sure to label your headers accordingly!


LAYOUT OF THE GALA
Dining/seating There are 100 tables configured in a U-shape around a large dancefloor/stage.
Stage/dance floor The dance floor shrinks during presentations and the celebrity auction and expands during dinner and dancing.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
6:00 Welcome Pansy Nott welcomes all attendees, goes over the schedule for the evening, and explains the mission of the charity.
6:30 Dinner A four course meal appears intermittently over the half hour.
7:00 Orchestra/Dancing As the last course--dessert--is served, the orchestra picks up and the dance floor expands for dancing.
7:30 Celebrity Auction The music dims to a soft accent as Pansy Nott and Demo Finnigan-Thomas take the stage to begin the celebrity date auction.
8:30 Concert/Dancing Several musical guests begin performing, kicked off with a duet featuring Wes Carlisle and Violet Nott, and the dance floor expands.
10:00 Function Ends Pansy Nott takes the stage to announce the end of the silent auction. Results will be tallied and winners will receive their goods by 13 July. She announces the end of the gala, though the concert continues until midnight.

Beau Rosier "To kick off our celebrity date auction is our favorite child actor all grown up! Beau Rosier first caught our eye as a cheeky lad on WeeVee's Merlin-under-Hangtree, but he's certainly proved himself a man of many talents, coming in second last year in the reality competition Let's Dance. I know I can't wait to see what role he takes on next! And so, I'd love to cast the opening bid at thirty galleons..."
Blaise Zabini "Our next celebrity hardly needs an introduction, but I do so love talking about him. Blaise Zabini, owner and editor of the Daily Prophet and perpetual bachelor, has set many a heart a-flutter, though none have managed to usurp the love he has for the paper. Win the bid for a date with him, and perhaps you'll have that special something he can't resist..."
Gareth Wagtail "Although our next celebrity is best known for a drunken fly over a muggle village last winter, Gareth Wagtail is a fantastic retired Chaser and current trainer for the Montrose Magpies. Outbid everyone else for a date with him, and I'd bet you'll be in for a wild ride..."
Gavin Montgomery "The Montrose Magpies have taken the league by storm this season with the help of our next celebrity. Gavin Montgomery, one of the best Beaters we've seen on the pitch since Cooper Reynolds' days on a broom, has quite the reputation of disappointing anyone who wants to snare his attention for more than a night, but just imagine all that intensity focused on only you for that single night! Who will start the bidding..."
Ginny Weasley "Everyone knows our favorite red-headed spitfire war hero! Ginny Weasley is Harpies Chaser turned Daily Prophet sports writer and editor, but don't be fooled. A desk job has done nothing to tame the spunk out of her, and a little birdie tells me she's hoping you lovely ladies will join in the bidding for a date with her..."
Harry Potter "I think you'll all agree that heartbroken is not a good look for our most famous of celebrities. Harry Potter, Hogwarts Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, is single and ready to mingle again--at least for a good cause. So ladies, here he is, get him with the winning bid..."
Rachel Turpin-Davies "Our next celebrity is up and coming Holyhead Harpies Chaser, Rachel Turpin-Davis. Quick as a snitch with an instinct for banter, the only thing this flying ace chases is the Quaffle, so you better keep up, cause she won't be chasing you..."
Thad Nott "We do love our Magpies, don't we? Next up is Montrose Magpies Seeker, and my second son, Thad Nott. I know, I know, him being my son doesn't make him famous, but his impressive flying and seeking certainly does! Don't let his bachelor reputation fool you, his dad and I have raised him to appreciate and value relationships, and don't those usually start with a first date? Who will start the bidding..."
Victoire Weasley "If you find it almost impossible to look away from our next stunning celebrity, that's because Victoire Weasley is part veela via the Delacour family and a world-renowned fashion model. Although she enjoys the jet set life, she's no Beauxbaton airhead. Fluent in several languages and quick-witted, you'll think you're in love by the end of the night..."
Wes Carlisle "Our final celebrity of the night has been charming us through the radio and on the stage for a decade. Wes Carlisle relishes sensuality and luxury, and is sure to show the woman--or man--who wins a date with him the best of times. I'm told there may even be a private concert in it for the lucky bidder. And if you're particularly clever, maybe you'll get a sneak peak at this new project Wes has hinted at..."

Athena was in her element as the auction started, being about as loud and raucous as she could be at a good quidditch game. She and her mother had had a short lived but loud bidding war over Blaise Zabini. Athena didn't actually want to win, of course, but she was doing it to be an absolute brat. She didn't raelly think of Blaise like that, other than she knew that her mother and he flirted dreadfully at times, all in good fun.

Then, of course, she bid on Gavin just so she could see his face when she did so, and then she died laughing, clutching at her middle because it was way too much fun to mess with her meathead cousin. How Uncle Hype had produced him she didn't know. She loved him but sometimes she wanted to throttle him, except she'd never do that to her precious Magpies.

She was flicking tears of laughter from her face, gods bless magical make up, as she looked up and smiled at Aldrich. She'd seen him here, of course, but they were both with their families and she hadn't had a chance to speak with him yet. "Nothing serious," she said, reaching up to kiss his cheek. She had on some amazingly high heels, again with blessing magic, and a long, sparkly gold dress with a slit that went up pretty high, showcasing her muscular legs in flashes. She planned to be a brat and do some more bidding, but the only one she'd actually probably put real money into was Thad.

It was a familiar feeling to slip his arm around her waist when she pressed a kiss to his cheek. "Oh good, I might still have a shot at goin' home with you," he said with that crooked grin, leaning into her then, and kissing her temple.

"I brought the bike, I'm not sure this dress will work with it though," he admitted then, unable to help himself as he looked down at the slit. "You look positively gorgeous, sparkling like you are," he hummed, the hand on her hip rubbing up and down her side to take in the feel of the dress.

She grinned and shook her head indulgently - not saying no, just shaking it. "Even if I won someone, I wouldn't be taking them home tonight," she said. "Besides, I'm mostly just being aggravating to everyone because I can." She was unrepentantly honest about it, her zest for her self-appointed task very obvious.

"Mmm, I don't know, we could probably make it work," she said, raising the leg on the side with the slit, baring it briefly and provacatively. "Thank you, Jules told me I should go with the gold. I was taken with a black one, but I apparently, get this," she paused dramatically, "wear too much black." She said it solemnly, but her eyes sparkled with humor.

He pulled a face, faking shock when she admitted she was just being aggravating. "You don't say," he murmured, lifting his whiskey glass to take a sip and hide that smirk.

Eyes never left her leg, and it took a lot of self-restraint to not touch. "I mean, while I love seeing you in black, gold is working for you," he said appreciatively. "I don't clean up too bad myself. Work sent me here to cover the event. I've run into a couple of our photographers, made sure we got a few good shots. I think the scandal is going to be how the bidding goes for Wes fucking Carlisle."

"I do say," she said, and as if to prove the point, she yelled out a random bid on the person currently up on the block, winking slyly back at Aldrich as she did so.

"Yes, I'm beginning to think that Jules definitely has a point. She has more taste than I do, so who am I to argue with her?" Besides, arguing with Jules would be weird, she was a gentle soul and Athena always felt quite protective of her.

She smirked up at him, taller than her even in her heels. "You definitely clean up nice," she said, nudging her hip gently against his. She definitely appreciated the view. "I'm sure the article will write up well," she said. "You really should talk to Uncle Blaise about upgrading to the Prophet." Sure, Witch Weekly did good stuff these days, but everyone knew the serious news came from the Prophet daily.

She rolled her eyes. "Yes, I keep hearing about him." She was sure she'd met him, but she didn't really recall offhand. "Peter doesn't like him," she added, the thought popping up to her. "Especially since he started being seen with his sister."

He had been diving his attention between the auction and Athena, up until she mentioned that he should talk to Uncle Blaise. Surprise was all over his face, he was never able to hide his emotions from those he cared about. "You really think I'm that good?" he asked hopefully, brows both raised. "I-uh hadn't thought of it. I didn't think I was good enough for the Prophet."

A chuckle left him when she didn't seem as smitten as every other woman he'd talked to about Wes. "I'm interested in breaking the story on those two, if there actually is one. Violet is a doll, I got to interview her for Witch Weekly not too long ago. There's something genuine about her," he mumured the last part, having struggled to find the correct word to describe the other woman. It had been an interesting interview at least.

"I think you could be, yes," she said honestly. She wasn't used to surprising people like this, but it was nice to see him looking pleased. "And you know, if he doesn't think you are yet, you can get feedback from him on what to improve on, and work on it more." Most people were rather intimidated by Blaise Zabini, but her mother was very close with him, and she'd grown up viewing him very fondly. Plus Orlando was one of her very best friends.

She rolled her eyes again, just a bit. "Well, I have no idea if they are, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were. Peter is pretty protective, so if he's extra bristly about Wes, then there could be something there." SHe didn't mind dishing to Aldrich, she highly doubted he'd quote her without asking. "Violet does seem like a sweet one." She preferred Jules, was much closer to her, but she didn't want anything but success for Violet.

His chest may have puffed out just a touch more, the boost from her confidence in him becoming a visible thing. He practically beamed from it, leaning in to press a kiss to her cheek. He was going to arrange a meeting soon, as soon as their schedules allowed. "Thank you," he whispered.

While it was good information to have, and if he was a lesser reporter, he'd use it. Instead, he'd just keep a closer eye on the pair when out in public. "That's good to know, I'll keep my eye on the situation. I wonder if she'll bid on him tonight," he mused. "Anyway, I was thinking... What if we didn't go back to either of our places right away tonight? I was thinking we could ride the bike out to a swimming hole. Enjoy the good weather?"

Her lips quirked up indulgently, the way he puffed up was cute. It was, she thought, reminiscent of his father Coop. She liked Coop and Genevieve a lot, though she had wondered what they thought of her these days, knowing that she was hooking up with their son. It wasn't as if they were keeping things strictly secret or anything. They weren't flaunting it either, but she knew they'd been spotted by his parents and her mother at the family gettogether a while back.

"Oooh, that would be interesting to know. I thought about bidding on him for shits and giggles, but honestly, from what I hear I don't think I'd have much fun." He seemed like he would probably piss her off, though of course she could be wrong. Besides, he was quite famous these days and she didn't see herself letting go of her family money for someone she didn't know.

"Sure, I'm up for a ride," she said. "It really is nice out tonight. How about we stay at least until the auction is over?" She was enjoying the auction, the vibes and good humor of it, even as she enjoyed leaning lightly into his side at times. Tonight was shaping up to be a good night, and a bike ride in the open air sounded like it would be a nice way to wrap it up in a metaphorical bow.

"Now that sounds interesting. Now I'm curious what you've heard, but that might color my articles. Don't tell me, unless it's really good," he teased, wanting so badly to dig more into Wes and what rumors were circulating, and wanting to produce a good article. He wanted to stick to facts so that it might impress Blaise as well.

"We can stay as late as you want, I'm in no rush tonight," he promised. "I'm in no rush tonight, no work tomorrow, so I'm all yours. I'll even make us breakfast in bed, fresh ground coffee, whatever you like," he murmured happily,squeezing his arm that was still around her.

Athena just wanted to stay for the auction, the dancing after was purely optional to her. Especially when she'd get to spend time with someone she truly enjoyed being around, and he'd probably have something exciting to do, even if it was a bike ride.

"You're going to spoil me," she said, looking up at him and elbowing him playfully.

It was hard to not make jokes about how she was really good, because his mind seemed to be hell bent on going straight to the gutter. Those bright blue eyes were skimming over her again, taking in that gold dress as it sparkled in the lights. She was positively glowing.

"Is that a bad thing?" he asked curiously, laughing as she elbowed him. He bumped his hip back against her, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. "Besides, it isn't a proper breakfast if I don't go all out for you. What's your favorite breakfast item?" he asked curiously, completely distracted from the auction.
