RP: The Literacy Flourishes Charity Gala

What: The Literacy Flourishes charity gala and celebrity date auction.
When: 10 July 2027
Where: Fairgrounds outside Cardiff

Notes: To bid in either auction, click the link in the auction header and bid on that page, comments are screened there. Please feel free to have individual scenes throughout the evening and make sure to label your headers accordingly!


LAYOUT OF THE GALA
Dining/seating There are 100 tables configured in a U-shape around a large dancefloor/stage.
Stage/dance floor The dance floor shrinks during presentations and the celebrity auction and expands during dinner and dancing.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
6:00 Welcome Pansy Nott welcomes all attendees, goes over the schedule for the evening, and explains the mission of the charity.
6:30 Dinner A four course meal appears intermittently over the half hour.
7:00 Orchestra/Dancing As the last course--dessert--is served, the orchestra picks up and the dance floor expands for dancing.
7:30 Celebrity Auction The music dims to a soft accent as Pansy Nott and Demo Finnigan-Thomas take the stage to begin the celebrity date auction.
8:30 Concert/Dancing Several musical guests begin performing, kicked off with a duet featuring Wes Carlisle and Violet Nott, and the dance floor expands.
10:00 Function Ends Pansy Nott takes the stage to announce the end of the silent auction. Results will be tallied and winners will receive their goods by 13 July. She announces the end of the gala, though the concert continues until midnight.

CELEBRITY AUCTION

Beau Rosier "To kick off our celebrity date auction is our favorite child actor all grown up! Beau Rosier first caught our eye as a cheeky lad on WeeVee's Merlin-under-Hangtree, but he's certainly proved himself a man of many talents, coming in second last year in the reality competition Let's Dance. I know I can't wait to see what role he takes on next! And so, I'd love to cast the opening bid at thirty galleons..."
Blaise Zabini "Our next celebrity hardly needs an introduction, but I do so love talking about him. Blaise Zabini, owner and editor of the Daily Prophet and perpetual bachelor, has set many a heart a-flutter, though none have managed to usurp the love he has for the paper. Win the bid for a date with him, and perhaps you'll have that special something he can't resist..."
Gareth Wagtail "Although our next celebrity is best known for a drunken fly over a muggle village last winter, Gareth Wagtail is a fantastic retired Chaser and current trainer for the Montrose Magpies. Outbid everyone else for a date with him, and I'd bet you'll be in for a wild ride..."
Gavin Montgomery "The Montrose Magpies have taken the league by storm this season with the help of our next celebrity. Gavin Montgomery, one of the best Beaters we've seen on the pitch since Cooper Reynolds' days on a broom, has quite the reputation of disappointing anyone who wants to snare his attention for more than a night, but just imagine all that intensity focused on only you for that single night! Who will start the bidding..."
Ginny Weasley "Everyone knows our favorite red-headed spitfire war hero! Ginny Weasley is Harpies Chaser turned Daily Prophet sports writer and editor, but don't be fooled. A desk job has done nothing to tame the spunk out of her, and a little birdie tells me she's hoping you lovely ladies will join in the bidding for a date with her..."
Harry Potter "I think you'll all agree that heartbroken is not a good look for our most famous of celebrities. Harry Potter, Hogwarts Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, is single and ready to mingle again--at least for a good cause. So ladies, here he is, get him with the winning bid..."
Rachel Turpin-Davies "Our next celebrity is up and coming Holyhead Harpies Chaser, Rachel Turpin-Davis. Quick as a snitch with an instinct for banter, the only thing this flying ace chases is the Quaffle, so you better keep up, cause she won't be chasing you..."
Thad Nott "We do love our Magpies, don't we? Next up is Montrose Magpies Seeker, and my second son, Thad Nott. I know, I know, him being my son doesn't make him famous, but his impressive flying and seeking certainly does! Don't let his bachelor reputation fool you, his dad and I have raised him to appreciate and value relationships, and don't those usually start with a first date? Who will start the bidding..."
Victoire Weasley "If you find it almost impossible to look away from our next stunning celebrity, that's because Victoire Weasley is part veela via the Delacour family and a world-renowned fashion model. Although she enjoys the jet set life, she's no Beauxbaton airhead. Fluent in several languages and quick-witted, you'll think you're in love by the end of the night..."
Wes Carlisle "Our final celebrity of the night has been charming us through the radio and on the stage for a decade. Wes Carlisle relishes sensuality and luxury, and is sure to show the woman--or man--who wins a date with him the best of times. I'm told there may even be a private concert in it for the lucky bidder. And if you're particularly clever, maybe you'll get a sneak peak at this new project Wes has hinted at..."

It shouldn't have made her giggle, she was almost certain that she would never be able to ever approach him in public again. She could think of worst things that could happen. "It's Kenzie, no Mac here," she called out to his retreating form, one hand coming up to cover her mouth and hide those giggles. Scar was going to die when she told her how uncomfortable she'd made Professor Weasley. She did hope he found someone, she wondered if she knew any older witches. She'd send them her way.

Alone again, her bowl was back out and in her hand. She still didn't hide in the shadows, instead she took a larger hit than before, and with confidence. She had just lived through her biggest nightmare as a teenager, being caught by a Professor doing something wrong. She felt invincible.

Though he wouldn't say having their wonderful mixed family together for this event had been a resounding success, it hadn't been a disaster either, and Hyperion was counting that as a win. Hailey was even talking to him again, albeit grudgingly, but she had been warm toward Zahara, so he would take her cold shoulder a little bit longer before insisting they set things right again.

But Hyperion was the kind of person who noticed so much more than people realized, even when it seemed he wasn't paying attention at all, and so he'd noticed when Kenzie had snuck off, and he wasn't oblivious to what she was doing. Rising from the table, he gave his fiancé a kiss, promising Zahara that he would find her in a little bit, and then he followed after his youngest.

She'd had a head start on him, so by the time he caught up to her, Charlie Weasley was walking away from her, looking awfully disgruntled, and he heard his daughter calling out a correction to her name. His eyes narrowed briefly at that--he did find it rather annoying when people assumed her name had to be short for something--but then mentally shrugged it off, distracted by the thick smell of some rather skunky weed.

Sighing, Hype walked right up to her and plucked the little pipe right out of her hand, though thankfully not mid-hit. "Kenzie, my favorite youngest child, you shouldn't be smoking this crap," he lectured with that stern dad face, holding the expression for a few beats before taking a hit off the pipe himself, holding it in for a moment before blowing the smoke out. His brow furrowed as he frowned and passed it back to her. "It's not high enough quality. Come by the office on Monday and I'll have a couple grams of better quality green for you." She probably thought he'd had no idea she'd been smoking pot for a while, but Hype really thought she should know better. He was just very much a pick his battles kind of dad, and weed was hardly a problem.

"Fuck!" fell from her lips before she could stop it, eyes wide, and hands still held up where she had been holding up the bowl. It was gone, and her father was there. It seemed she was destined to live through one fear, only to die of a heart attack seconds later as her biggest fear came to life.

Her heart even sank, as arms fell dramatically to her sides, as his lecture started. The emotional roller coaster she was putting herself on was insane, as he then hit her pipe, and offered to help her get better stuff. "Have you gone bonkers?" she asked, eyes as large as saucers just seconds before she launched herself at him in a bear hug. It was completely unlady-like but no one had ever called her lady-like.

"Are you sure? The last time I had something better was when..." Those eyes grew wide a moment, knowing she couldn't tell her father about that. "Scar and I met a friend at the park," she finished lamely, knowing he likely wouldn't believe it, but at least she had stopped herself before saying Wes.

Her question had barely started teasing a chuckle from him when Hyperion suddenly found himself with an armful of Kenzie. His chuckle morphed into a laugh. "Don't you know, I've always been a bit bonkers," he quipped, arms wrapped around his daughter in an equally tight hug.

One dark eyebrow curved upward when she cut herself off and changed whatever it was she'd been about to say, and then he decided he didn't want to know whatever it was she'd been about to say. "Well, either way, this is trash, so come see me Monday," he reiterated, keeping one arm wrapped around her.

His quip her grinning from ear to ear, he had to be bonkers. She was certain she had the coolest father on the planet, there was no doubt.

"Monday, promise," she said, leaning into her father a moment. There was something comforting about it, even though she knew she was quickly outgrowing these moments.

"You can't take my bowl with you though, I want that back," she teased, moving her head to give him that big mischievous grin of hers. "I'm going to need it if I have to go to a call back." Her father had been the only person, other than Scar, that knew she had tried out for the new Wee Vee show.

Chuckling, Hyperion gave the little pipe back to his daughter, thinking that he might have to have a hit of something better before the end of the night to get the skunk taste out of his mouth. Not that smoking weed was something he did with any regularity, and he hadn't even picked it up as a casual habit until a couple years after leaving the DMLE, but he rather thought he'd earned the relaxation from time to time.

"Of course you'll get a call back!" he said with all the confidence of a proud Gryffindor father. Which was, of course, an obscene amount of confidence.

Kenzie slipped the little bowl back into the secret pocket in her dress, closing it so that the stench didn't follow her around the party for the rest of the night.

She finally pulled away from her father, a happy little sigh leaving her. "You're just saying that because you're my dad. I'm sure Scar's going to get the call back," she said confidently. "I should probably go find her again, she's my date," she explained, as if he hadn't sat at the same table with them. "Don't... You know, be weird? Like don't feel up Aunt Zee on the dance floor," she teased, making a face as the image popped up in her mind. She really needed to not think about that again.

Hype scoffed at that, shaking his head in denial. "Hardly, Kenz. I mean, sure, Scarlett might get a callback too, but you'll get one for sure. You've got that Slytherin subtlety that will lend you well to acting," he said knowingly. He had a momentary suspension of reality when she reminded him that Scarlett was her date for the evening, wondering if all of his children were bound to end up in relationships with women but then mentally shrugged it off. It didn't matter if they did, though he would hope that Kenzie would choose a more stable romantic partner than Scarlett McLaggen.

"I make no promises," he announced, waggling his eyebrows dramatically. Though he did hope that his kids would get used to not referring to Zahara as aunt soon, as that was a little strange. And yes, he knew that he was the one to change that dynamic, but he was rather stubbornly insistent that it should be an easy adjustment. After all, Zahara had never been their literal aunt.

There was a very small part of Kenzie that hoped her father was right, that this wasn't just him being a good parent that supported their child. "Thanks, Dad," she said, not wanting to ruin their moment by fighting him on it. She hoped he was right, so she didn't see a reason to reject the compliment.

Her nose wrinkled immediately. "Ewww," she groaned, shaking her head quickly. "Okay, I'm going. Ew," she reiterated with a huge smile, before slipping off and into the crowd once more.
