CELEBRITY AUCTION

Bid
Beau Rosier "To kick off our celebrity date auction is our favorite child actor all grown up! Beau Rosier first caught our eye as a cheeky lad on WeeVee's Merlin-under-Hangtree, but he's certainly proved himself a man of many talents, coming in second last year in the reality competition Let's Dance. I know I can't wait to see what role he takes on next! And so, I'd love to cast the opening bid at thirty galleons..."
Blaise Zabini "Our next celebrity hardly needs an introduction, but I do so love talking about him. Blaise Zabini, owner and editor of the Daily Prophet and perpetual bachelor, has set many a heart a-flutter, though none have managed to usurp the love he has for the paper. Win the bid for a date with him, and perhaps you'll have that special something he can't resist..."
Gareth Wagtail "Although our next celebrity is best known for a drunken fly over a muggle village last winter, Gareth Wagtail is a fantastic retired Chaser and current trainer for the Montrose Magpies. Outbid everyone else for a date with him, and I'd bet you'll be in for a wild ride..."
Gavin Montgomery "The Montrose Magpies have taken the league by storm this season with the help of our next celebrity. Gavin Montgomery, one of the best Beaters we've seen on the pitch since Cooper Reynolds' days on a broom, has quite the reputation of disappointing anyone who wants to snare his attention for more than a night, but just imagine all that intensity focused on only you for that single night! Who will start the bidding..."
Ginny Weasley "Everyone knows our favorite red-headed spitfire war hero! Ginny Weasley is Harpies Chaser turned Daily Prophet sports writer and editor, but don't be fooled. A desk job has done nothing to tame the spunk out of her, and a little birdie tells me she's hoping you lovely ladies will join in the bidding for a date with her..."
Harry Potter "I think you'll all agree that heartbroken is not a good look for our most famous of celebrities. Harry Potter, Hogwarts Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, is single and ready to mingle again--at least for a good cause. So ladies, here he is, get him with the winning bid..."
Rachel Turpin-Davies "Our next celebrity is up and coming Holyhead Harpies Chaser, Rachel Turpin-Davis. Quick as a snitch with an instinct for banter, the only thing this flying ace chases is the Quaffle, so you better keep up, cause she won't be chasing you..."
Thad Nott "We do love our Magpies, don't we? Next up is Montrose Magpies Seeker, and my second son, Thad Nott. I know, I know, him being my son doesn't make him famous, but his impressive flying and seeking certainly does! Don't let his bachelor reputation fool you, his dad and I have raised him to appreciate and value relationships, and don't those usually start with a first date? Who will start the bidding..."
Victoire Weasley "If you find it almost impossible to look away from our next stunning celebrity, that's because Victoire Weasley is part veela via the Delacour family and a world-renowned fashion model. Although she enjoys the jet set life, she's no Beauxbaton airhead. Fluent in several languages and quick-witted, you'll think you're in love by the end of the night..."
Wes Carlisle "Our final celebrity of the night has been charming us through the radio and on the stage for a decade. Wes Carlisle relishes sensuality and luxury, and is sure to show the woman--or man--who wins a date with him the best of times. I'm told there may even be a private concert in it for the lucky bidder. And if you're particularly clever, maybe you'll get a sneak peak at this new project Wes has hinted at..."

She smiled! That was a good thing, he was sure of it. There had been a small worry, one he'd have never admitted to, that it would be awkward. They had been able to avoid each other enough at work that their paths hadn't crossed, at least not until now.

"We need to be sure to get a few of us before we wrap things for the night. We both look too good to pass this up," he said easily, giving her a playful wink. He went about smoothing out the lapels to his jacket, a nervous movement meant to keep himself from saying anything too stupid.

"Why?" she asked before she could stop the word from slipping from her lips. Addison didn't mean to be rude--she never did!--but she and Aldrich had broken up over a year ago now, and they'd hardly interacted since then. Even if she still felt a little bad about how she'd broken up with him even though things hadn't been bad between them, she'd had enough time now to cope with her mother's death and reflect on what they'd had, and she'd long since come to the conclusion that they were better off not together.

It wasn't an unusual feeling, Aldrich was known for putting his foot in his mouth. It seemed he had done so already, it had to be a new record. Under five minutes, wasn't it? He even glanced at his wrist watch to be sure of the new record. "Mon dieu, that's the fastest I've put my foot in my mouth in ages," he said, unable to stop the muttering.

"I just thought it a good idea," he admitted, always too honest for his own good. It was a good thing he hadn't made a total arse of himself tonight, at least not yet. He'd only made things slightly awkward.

Hearing the muttering, Addison wrinkled her nose in that cute way she had when she was trying not to laugh. "It's not a bad idea, I was just surprised," she replied at his admission, though that wasn't entirely true. She hated the idea of anyone being upset because of something she said or did, though, and couldn't help the urge to try to make him feel better.

Peter might not be officially working the event in the way that Addison or some of the others were, but he was his mother's minion for this entire thing and it was his goal to make it go off without any hitches and make it a resounding success. His supervisors hadn't even dreamed of making him work this weekend, having not wanted Pansy Nott to drop by and tell them why it was a terrible idea. Peter wasn't scared of his mother, but he knew some people definitely were - and not entirely without cause.

So he handled things here and there, especially at the beginning, keeping people from bothering Pansy. His secondary goal, however, was to make certain Addison wanted for nothing as well, despite also having to work the event.

He came up to the pair, not wanting to intrude on the conversation. He was impeccably handsome in his expensive, well made robes that of course his mother had made him get. He smiled a faint apology to Aldrich, who he vaguely recognized from school and around but did not know that he'd been Addison's ex, and touched Addison's back lightly with his free hand. "Excuse me," he said to the pair before glancing down at Addison. "I brought you some water, figured you wouldn't want anything stronger yet while you're working." It would be a long night, but hopefully in the best of ways.

Aldrich could be incredibly thick when it came to social ques, he didn't however miss the apology smile, nor did he miss the way the other man touched Addison. Bright eyes grew wide in surprise, but he had already turned his head to look into the crowd and hide his expression. Of course she'd moved on, he had moved on, it only seemed right. He was just surprised to see her with someone, he was really being ridiculous. He realized then that a small part of him had been holding out hope she'd come back to him, once she felt she was ready for dating.

He used his silent excuse of looking into the crowd for others to help get his features under control, so that when he looked back to the couple he had that lopsided smile, though it didn't quite reach his eyes. At least his mask was firmly back in place, able to poke at his feelings once he wasn't in the company of his ex. "Aldrich Reynolds, from Witch Weekly, good to meet you," he introduced himself, holding out a hand for the other man to shake. No need to run from the situation, and no reason to mention he'd dated Addison. He'd leave all of that up to her, if she wanted him to know.

So distracted was she by Aldrich that Addison didn't notice Peter coming up to them until his hand brushed lightly against her back. Her head turned to take him in, her smile small and warm and soft, her eyes brightening with that giddiness that he seemed to bring out in her, and she took the offered water. "Thanks, love," she murmured, wanting to lean up and brush her lips against his, not as a statement but just because she quite enjoyed doing so, but held back, reminding herself that she was, technically, working still.

She was almost startled out of the moment when Aldrich introduced himself to Peter, and okay yes, that was a bit weird. But she and Aldrich were coworkers, even if they didn't directly work together often, and she wasn't going to let things be weird. They'd broken up over a year ago, there was no reason to be weird. She also didn't jump in to introduce Peter--he was more than capable of doing so himself.

Peter was utterly oblivious that his motions declared him anything more to her than friend, though of course they did. Things he'd absorbed from his parents over the years.

He gave the other man a smile,n expression that warmed his own face. He reached out and shook firmly but not in any over bearing way, because it wasn't in him even if he had known who Aldrich was.

"Peter Nott, Minion of the hostess, " he declared in a depreciating, joking manner. Addison knew how much time he'd been putting into this lately on his family's behalf. He was pretty sure they'd all been doing so, from Theo down to Violet. "I hope that you'll enjoy the event enough to write about it favorably."

He hadn't yet connected the dots between Addison's ex, a coworker, and her coworker in front of her. Mostly because he had a lot of other things on his mind currently.

His eyes grew just slightly wider, she was with a Nott? There was so much there to unpack, for himself. He felt odd, for some reason it hurt just a bit to realize she'd moved on, and with someone so much better than himself.

"Ah, you're one of Violet's siblings. I interviewed her for an article a few weeks back," he said with that practiced smile, pushing the pit in his stomach away. He was being ridiculous, he knew it. "I'm sure tonight will exceed expectations." From what he had learned through Violet, the family was fantastic. Aldrich knew it would do him good to network with them tonight.

It was definitely a bit strange to look between the two men--so very different as they were--as they greeted one another, and Addison mentally shook herself. Thankfully, that was about the moment when Mrs. Nott's voice rang out from the stage, getting the attention of the attendees with practiced ease, and she realized she had her out.

"I've got to get back to it, but I'll take a break at some point, so save me a dance, yeah?" she told Peter, looking up at him with that almost shy yet so full of hope smile.

And then she glanced at Aldrich briefly, gave him a slight nod of acknowledgement, and slipped away from them both to get back to work. She was hardly the only Witch Weekly photographer here tonight, but she wanted to make sure hers were the best photos of the night, which meant actually taking photos instead of standing around talking.

"Yup. Violet's brother. I guess I have to get used to that," he said with a bit of a rueful smile, hand sliding over his hair. "You did a good job on that, so thanks. I worry about her." And it was the utter truth. "I'm her eldest one, if you're wondering." Not that he looked much at all like her, though of all the sibs they were the only two who shared any blood.

His eyes went back to Addison and he gave her a warm smile. "Definitely save you a dance. Go shoot the best shots and let me know if you need anything." His eyes followed her for a moment before he politely turned his attention back to Aldrich.

There was a half-wave to Addison, more just Aldrich lifting his hand. Then it was just the two of them, and he gave Peter a smile. "I should be finding my seat," he said lamely, motioning with his head towards where the tables were. "It was good to meet you." He didn't wait, as rude as it likely came off, before he was taking off. His nerves had the best of him, he needed a drink, and to find that seat.
