CELEBRITY AUCTION

Bid
Beau Rosier "To kick off our celebrity date auction is our favorite child actor all grown up! Beau Rosier first caught our eye as a cheeky lad on WeeVee's Merlin-under-Hangtree, but he's certainly proved himself a man of many talents, coming in second last year in the reality competition Let's Dance. I know I can't wait to see what role he takes on next! And so, I'd love to cast the opening bid at thirty galleons..."
Blaise Zabini "Our next celebrity hardly needs an introduction, but I do so love talking about him. Blaise Zabini, owner and editor of the Daily Prophet and perpetual bachelor, has set many a heart a-flutter, though none have managed to usurp the love he has for the paper. Win the bid for a date with him, and perhaps you'll have that special something he can't resist..."
Gareth Wagtail "Although our next celebrity is best known for a drunken fly over a muggle village last winter, Gareth Wagtail is a fantastic retired Chaser and current trainer for the Montrose Magpies. Outbid everyone else for a date with him, and I'd bet you'll be in for a wild ride..."
Gavin Montgomery "The Montrose Magpies have taken the league by storm this season with the help of our next celebrity. Gavin Montgomery, one of the best Beaters we've seen on the pitch since Cooper Reynolds' days on a broom, has quite the reputation of disappointing anyone who wants to snare his attention for more than a night, but just imagine all that intensity focused on only you for that single night! Who will start the bidding..."
Ginny Weasley "Everyone knows our favorite red-headed spitfire war hero! Ginny Weasley is Harpies Chaser turned Daily Prophet sports writer and editor, but don't be fooled. A desk job has done nothing to tame the spunk out of her, and a little birdie tells me she's hoping you lovely ladies will join in the bidding for a date with her..."
Harry Potter "I think you'll all agree that heartbroken is not a good look for our most famous of celebrities. Harry Potter, Hogwarts Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, is single and ready to mingle again--at least for a good cause. So ladies, here he is, get him with the winning bid..."
Rachel Turpin-Davies "Our next celebrity is up and coming Holyhead Harpies Chaser, Rachel Turpin-Davis. Quick as a snitch with an instinct for banter, the only thing this flying ace chases is the Quaffle, so you better keep up, cause she won't be chasing you..."
Thad Nott "We do love our Magpies, don't we? Next up is Montrose Magpies Seeker, and my second son, Thad Nott. I know, I know, him being my son doesn't make him famous, but his impressive flying and seeking certainly does! Don't let his bachelor reputation fool you, his dad and I have raised him to appreciate and value relationships, and don't those usually start with a first date? Who will start the bidding..."
Victoire Weasley "If you find it almost impossible to look away from our next stunning celebrity, that's because Victoire Weasley is part veela via the Delacour family and a world-renowned fashion model. Although she enjoys the jet set life, she's no Beauxbaton airhead. Fluent in several languages and quick-witted, you'll think you're in love by the end of the night..."
Wes Carlisle "Our final celebrity of the night has been charming us through the radio and on the stage for a decade. Wes Carlisle relishes sensuality and luxury, and is sure to show the woman--or man--who wins a date with him the best of times. I'm told there may even be a private concert in it for the lucky bidder. And if you're particularly clever, maybe you'll get a sneak peak at this new project Wes has hinted at..."

Fiona laughed softly when he named the one thing that had really weirded her out. "Right!" she agreed, blue eyes sparkling. "I couldn't imagine ever bidding on something like that." But then, she didn't really put value on having the personal items of famous people, dead or alive.

Something warm spread through her at his words, finding it interesting that they'd both been interested in the same piece. "The box seats for the finals would be a draw if I didn't already have access to box seats," she admitted, wrinkling her nose. Both of her parents were famous retired Quidditch stars--she didn't think she would ever want for the good seats whenever she would want to go to a game.

Fiona startled when Clary nudged her in the ribs, glancing at her cousin with brows furrowed slightly, it taking only a moment for her friend's meaning to dawn on her, and she looked back at James with cheeks that were quite pink, expression on the bashful side. "I haven't danced at all yet," she admitted, gathering ever bit of courage she had to continue. "I'd love to dance with you. Now, even, if you'd like."

"There is some weird collectibles out there. I don't get it, but I guess that for some people's it's really cool." He shrugged, trying not to judge but perhaps not completely succeeding if only because his family was famous and it affected him in a more direct way than most.

"True, I love a good game, but Mum gets all sorts of tickets and things, so I'm lucky that way." He had dreamed once of following in those footsteps, but he in the end had had to admit to himself he didn't quite have that level of skill. But he still loved the sport.

"I've only danced with my cousins," he admitted. Of course, he had quite a slew of them, and it was good to see them, even if it was at an event like this. He held out his hand to her though, not about to let an opportunity go to waste. "Yes, please, that would be wonderful."

Struck once again with how wonderfully strange it was to be around someone outside her own family that was so used to having rich, famous parents and all the things that came along with that, Fiona smiled warmly at him, nodding. "I haven't gone to a live game in ages, though," she found herself admitting.

Oh. Well she hadn't been including her brothers or cousins in her thought that she wouldn't be asked to dance much beyond James. Her cheeks were a rather pretty pink as her hand slipped into his. "Okay then," she breathed, letting him lead her onto the dancefloor.

"Well, you should plan to go during the finals! There's going to be some great games, and I'm actually going to make time to go to at least one game sometime soon. Slushy butterbeers and good games, it's the best." He was quite enthusiastic about it, but not one of those idiots that it's the only thing they can think about.

James gave Clary a bit of a head tip nod thing of respect, making a mental note to ask her to dance later since she seemed nice but so quiet and shy.

He led Fiona out into the floor, doing a little jig step with her real quick in a playful manner, grinning as he did so. He snugged her a bit closer unconsciously to be protective against the other people amassing.

It's not an invitation, Fiona, she lectured herself silently, biting her tongue for a moment to try to sort out the appropriate way to respond to him just then. "I'll have to think about it. I know it's always a good time, but I don't love going with my brothers--" For a variety of reasons, really. "--and I'd rather not go alone." She mentally kicked herself as those last words slipped from her lips, as she was sure it would sound like she was trying to manipulate him into asking her, which wasn't the case at all.

Fiona found herself giggling as he swept her into a cute little jig, keeping up with it well enough, her skirts swirling around her legs, tickling her smooth skin. And when he pulled her closer to his body, the dancefloor awfully active already, she tucked herself in almost against his body, looking up into his dark eyes, her heart racing awfully fast, far more than it should have with the little bit of dancing they'd done so far.

He wrinkled his nose slightly at her in commisseration - it could be so difficult going with family, especially in families with wildly varying favorites for teams. The Weasleys did tend to be a bit all over the place. He of course had a soft spot for the Harpies, given his mother's playing days, but otherwise he just simply enjoyed a good game. "Well then, let me know what one you'd like, and if you want I can come along. That way you're not stuck with your brothers." He didn't even really see that it could have potentially been manipulation - he liked her, so the offer was an honest one.

He grinned down at her, a little flutter inside him as well. He warned himself to tread carefully, he knew enough of her situation to not want to scare her off at all, but he really did like her. Perhaps more than he'd thought back in the day, when she'd been off limits as a married witch.

But it was wildly fun, and he kept people from pressing to close to her, at least, as they danced to the insistent beat of the current song. As it wrapped up, he managed to guide them back near the edge, though not quite where they'd entered the throng. He was breathless and his hair was already trying to become a mess again, and his grin was exhilarated.

Her face heated unbearably at his offer, wondering despite herself what his motivations were in doing so. He was just being a kind and generous friend, she was sure. And yet... she couldn't help wondering... but no, best to cut off that sort of thinking lest she get in over her head. And besides, it really hadn't been terribly long since he and Becca had broken up. There was no reason to imagine things that weren't actually there. "Well, I'm sure you know that I'd be disowned if the Magpies weren't my team," she pointed out with an amused little grin. "I know they play in a few days but then not again until the end of the month. That game might be nice to attend," she said a bit more carefully than the situation might have called for. But she was a bit nervous, and so she couldn't help it.

Dancing with James was so utterly different than dancing with anyone in the past. Her brothers were obnoxious, they didn't count, and while Desmond had taken her on the sort of dates where they might dance early on in his courting of her, that had gone away rather quickly once they were married, and he'd never seemed so careful and considerate with her as James was seeming now. Though perhaps her memory was reshaping how things had been with Desmond based on how they'd turned out.

But there was something about James that she simply trusted, and that was a precious feeling she wasn't sure she was capable of anymore. And so, by the time he guided her back to the edge of the dancefloor, she was breathless and giddy, her cheeks rosy from exhilaration rather than embarrassment. And then, as she was looking up at him, pale blue eyes bright with the moment of it, one hand lifted, delicate fingers smoothing out an unruly bit of his hair and brushing down behind his ear before falling back to her side.

He was a bit oblivious to her nervousness, to some of the underlaying things. But he exuded a casual confidence and trustworthiness that couldn't be manufactured as it was genuine. He might be uncertain when it came to romantic things these days - he still had no idea how things with Becca had fallen apart so completely - but he was a fun and generous friend who just genuinely enjoyed doing things with other people he liked. "But of course, I couldn't imagine it any other way. I tend towards the Harpies, of course, but I'll cheer just about anyone depending on the game. I'd totally be up for going to that game if you'd like." It would be good to get out of the house and do more things, and he preferred doing them with people rather than on his lonesome.

His eyes softened a bit as she flattened down a piece of rogue hair, and he unconsciously tucked a lock of hers behind her ear in return, feeling a flutter of what if. He thought, for a moment, of kissing her, but while he might have been impulsive enough to do so several years back, he was a much more cautious soul these days. Especially knowing bits of her past, but also because of his own. "Now that was a blast," he said, squeezing her hand. "I don't think I've danced like that in a long long time."

Not even at the club that night he'd gone at Frank's invitation and run into his mother there. He'd had an all right time then, but nothing special and certainly nothing as fun as that romp had just been.

Unable to help herself, Fiona smiled widely when he seemed up for going to the Magpies game with her at the end of the month. Certainly, she could have dragged Clary along with her, but she hadn't thought of her friend in that moment. Somehow, she didn't think Clary would be upset with her for it. "I think I'd like that, yeah," she said softly, tugging her lower lip between her teeth briefly.

The moment was especially charged, and Fiona would swear her heart was about to beat right out of her chest for as quick as it was racing. It was a precipice, and in that moment of suspended time, she wasn't sure which way she wanted it to go. And then the moment was over, diffused with his words and the squeeze to her head, and she breathed out a soft sigh--whether of relief or disappointment, she wasn't sure. "It was!" she agreed easily, though. "We'll have to do it again before the night is over," she added, a promise in her voice that she would enjoy dancing with him more.

"Wonderful. I'll poke you closer to and we'll make plans," he said, wary of saying 'it's a date' as that had, once, blown up spectacularly in his face when it had been taken the wrong way. Besides, he didn't really think she thought of him in that light, though he could also be rather oblivious at times. He was a Gryffindor; sometimes one had to be very obvious.

"Yes, please," he said. "I haven't had that much fun in a while. People dragged me to the club a while back, but it ended up just being weird." Most people knew what someone meant when they said the club - Carnival was still one of the hottest clubs around. He lowered his voice confidentially. "My mother was there."

"Great," Fiona said softly, her stomach flipflopping terribly. Would it be a date? Did she want it to be? Those, she supposed, were things to obsess about later.

When she told him about the club, her eyebrows shot up, and she wondered just how it had ended up being weird for him. She didn't have to wait long to find out, and when he told her, a sharp sound of amusement and incredulity slipped from her lips. "Oh no!" she groaned in solidarity. "Was she flirting with people our age?" she asked, scrunching up her nose a bit at the thought.

"No. Almost worse, though. She was there with her date," he told her. Paused dramatically. "Blaise Zabini. You know, her boss." Talk about awkward, though she certainly could do a lot worse than one of their world's most eligible bachelors. She'd always spoken pretty well of her boss, like they were friends, so it at least wasn't completely out of nowhere.

Fiona quirked a brow when he said the reality was almost worse than his mother flirting with people their age. What could be worse that that? Ooh! She found herself giggling a moment later, shaking her head. "How is that worse? I'm sure it was awkward, of course, but at least Mr. Zabini is of her age." She couldn't help wondering how serious it was between them though, considering they both volunteered to be auctioned off for a date.

Although, that bidding war Mr. Zabini and his sister got into over the date with Ginny had been entertaining to watch. She could just imagine what the gossip writers would be saying about it tomorrow! "Or is it just seeing her moved on?" she asked gently a moment later. She couldn't imagine her own parents ever divorcing or dating other people.

He shrugged slightly and then nodded a little ruefully. "I know it shouldn't be weird, they've been separated for a while and everything, but it is so weird sseeing her out and seeing other people," he admitted to her. "Like, I'm happy for her on one hand, she seems so happy and everything on the whole. But on the other, it's just so..." He waved his hands for lack of a good term.

Sometimes he really was truly fine with it all. But sometimes it would hit him, how weird it was, how it sometimes ached. Sure, he was grown, and sure, his family had had a wedge into it ever since his father took the teaching position. But there was something so final about it all, and sometimes it hit him, and still ached despite the fact he was an adult.

As he waved a hand, Fiona found herself reaching out and snagging it, giving it a light squeeze. "Oh, don't fret love," she urged him. "I think I understand what you mean. It's a lot of change in not a lot of time, which makes it a strange adjustment. For what it's worth, I think you're handling it quite a lot better than some might."

She realized, a few beats after she finished talking, that she still had his hand captured, her thumb rubbing soothing circles over the back of it. Flushing, she glanced down, releasing his hand.
