One perfect moment DCAU Luthor
Superman Adventures #41 was unsual inasmuch as it featured 22 one-page stories rather than one 22 page story.

This is one of my favourites.

OPM: Lois Lane- Man of Steel #4
Lois Lane is bar none my favorite DC character. In fact, she's my favorite female fictional character period. She is tough and smart and more than a little bit reckless. I love that she doesn't take crap from anyone and suffers fools, well, not at all. This moment pretty much encapsulates everything I love about Lois Lane.

One Perfect Moment: Superman / Luthor

The set-up: Superman notices that, every year on March 14th, Luthor turns up in public, usually doing something nonsensical: Driving a motorboat off the shore of New Jersey, hanging out in a European patent office, sneaking into the library at Princeton University. Finally, as he's getting ready to haul Luthor back to jail for the umpteenth time, he puts the pieces together...

The Many Faces of Barbara Minerva, part 6 (Versus Catwoman)
And we're back; this time with an installment so ludicrous I can't even work up any real ire for it. I'm just left shaking my head in depressed bemusement, wondering how it all went so wrong. I mean, it's not that getting Cheetah a little cross-DCU exposure is a bad thing in principle, and even the basic formula of "catwoman + cat woman = double the feline fun" does seem sensible at first, cursory glance. Enough, even, that we've seen it not once, not twice, but three times with this incarnation of Cheetah at least - very impressive considering that a) Selina's not even remotely connected to Wondy, b) she's not even really exactly a *hero* and c) barring Injustice-type "everyone and their mother who was ever a bad guy is there" crossovers, her fights with Selina are the only times Cheetah's ever gotten coverage outside Diana's book. Ever.

Of course, "cursory glance" is a pretty pathetic thing to hang a story on, and it all falls apart like a house of oversize novelty cards after the Batmobile crashes into them the second you take even a fractionally deeper look at the characters involved. But Pfeifer and Loebs never let continuity or consistent characterization stop them before, and dammit, they aren't about to now.

Next up, we find out why Cheetah's wearing stupid pants, with post-ICk JLA and v3 WONDER WOMAN. Yeah, I know. But hey, at least there's pretty Dodson art.

The Many Faces of Barbara Minerva, part 5 (Rucka & Villains United)
It's kind of odd to say, but up till this point, the Cheetah has actually had a certain consistency to her. I mean, obviously, in four different chapters we've had four completely different characters, but every different take on Barbara Minerva has actually followed pretty reasonably from the one before, enough that you can actually trace a coherent thread of development through the whole thing - you can see where WML got his reluctant ally from in Perez, you can track Jimenez' calm mastermind to Byrne's deliberate restoration. There have been wild shifts in character, yes, but nothing truly out of left field (Boy!Cheetah excepted, but he doesn't reflect on Minerva herself). You can always pretty much figure where any given emphasis sprang from.

Yeah, that was apparently too good to last.

Next up, somewhat less annoying but possibly even more stupid: Cheetah as portrayed by Pfeifer, with bonus Jeph Loeb. Because apparently the purpose of this series was to torture myself and then spread the pain to you.

World's Finest
I was drawn in by talk of a JxHQ week, so thought I’d contribute by putting together a little post of all the best Joker & Harley bits from the comic adaptation of The Batman & Superman Adventures: World’s Finest. I see this as much like picking the particularly cute and funny chocolate chunks from a cookie.

One page from Underworld Unleashed (part 2)
In the DC universe, Neron is the guy to go to if you want to sell your soul to the devil. You may know this, but he first turned up in this little cross-company-crossover (say that five times fast) called Underworld Unleashed, where he was collecting souls of all the supervillains of the DC universe in exchange for various stuff.

Some got powered up. Some gained back their youth. Some got to kill off a kindergarten.

Lois and Clark's (and Batman's) Wedding Night.

Lois and Clark get married. Clark, perhaps not being used to our Earth ways, invites a friend.

Superman Forever!
Oh Clark/Lois fans, it's all your fault you got me posting even more scans. :p (This should be Clark/Lois week or something.)

I'll post more if that's okay with the mod (this book was at least 95 pages long...) and if I find anything else worthy for the Clark/Lois fans.

Eleven Randoms Scans
It would be a sin for us to lose our past... Eleven scans I've yanked from SD during my time there. Some are fanart, some are official scans, some are cute, some are funny. And a few feature Robins, of course.
Actually most of these are pretty recent, but here's hoping that you have bad memories. )

World's Finest #153, Imaginary Story: Bats vs. Supes

So I was drafting up my second post when the comm got suspended. Fortunately it was already under the new "one-third of the comic" limit. [Mods: How's the balance between the commentary/the scans? I'm still vague on where the balance is supposed to fall.]

No 'My parents are DEAD' here, nope.

"The SAGA of Superman vs. Batman!"

Published November, 1963, complete with those awesome old-timey ads and one-pagers.

page2 ) page3 ) page4 ) page5 ) page9 ) page16 ) page17 ) page18 ) Cape and Cowl Comments )

The issue finishes off with more ads, more shorts, and "The Boy Who Changed The Future!", wherein one of those omniscient 1960's computers that talks to you in punchcard binary predicts the imminent destruction of life on earth (6am, June 1, 1952--mark your calendars). But since the kid used the computer without permission, he has to keep THE END OF THE WORLD a secret lest he get into trouble, so he sets to save it himself. It takes about two pages, naturally.
