The Lil' Leaguers

This is the story of the lil!JLA, a story that began in Superman/Batman #46 when, after discovering a new type of kryptonite, Supes found himself to be, well, kind of high...

Of course someone has to spoil the fun.

Aww, so of course Supes eventually got back to normal and you'd think that was the end of them, right?

Nope. Not only do they come back but they aren't figments of Supes hazy brain in Superman/Batman #51...

Of course no meeting of superhero teams feels quite complete without a fight over some "misunderstanding"...

Though things eventually settle down and we get some cracktastic origin stories.

Also some Robin love...

Though because peace in the DCU is fleeting, the issue ends with a set up of our villains...

Dun dun dun.

So now we continue into Superman/Batman #52 with the Lil' villians entering the scene.
First we have a bit of commentary on how the Lil'Leaguer's world works from mini Luthor...

But alas, we find that some of the Lil' villians took Supes and co. being out of the building as a chance to break in which leads to a fight once discovered...

Uh oh... this seems a tad familiar.

Things get pretty sad pretty fast and it's realised that this world is just not right for the Lil'Leaguers who never had to experience death and sorrow so them and the Lil' villains are sent home... well, most of them anyhow.

So for those who want the crack but missed the links/names, this was...
Superman/Batman #46
Superman/Batman #51
Superman/Batman #52

I NEED THIS
LIKE, YESTERDAY

More coherently, who is the artist on this? It looks like Rafael Albuquerque to me, but I am probably wrong.

IIRC he did the alternate dimension bit, but not the SuperStoned bit.

...How did I never notice that Lil'Vixen manifested the power of a teddy bear in that first fight scene?! How is it possible for this to get even cuter?!

Also, if you've got it, could I request Alfred's reaction to the Lil'League?

I love Chibi-Supes high-fiving the random Chibi-Cop. I totally want to see more high-fiving in the DCU.

...

BECAUSE, DAMMIT, THAT'S WHY.

Chibi!Catwoman is just...too cute. I don't know why, but she's my favorite.

(Now I want to see a chibi!Alfred. O.o)

That's it. This post has ruined me.
I've seen the scans of this series and been intrigued, now I'm gonna have to buy a bunch of issues.

I forget, did S_D ever come to a consensus what the eye was at Supes' feet when he woke up? J'onn perhaps? (which was my guess, although there's no one there in the non-chibi scene.

ok. before someone says we're just a bunch of freeloaders, i'm proud to say i have these issues! and i bought them after seeing them on scans daily. so there.

my favorite part is still the bootprint on li'l batman's face.

i wish dc would push through with dcu elementary. i would definitely be up for that.

I just got #51 and #52 (and #53 and #55) thanks to this post!
I'm prolly gonna add this series to my regular pull list (which'll make it two titles), too!

Superman all "don't hold out on me" and "stupid Batman" made this for me. And the way little Catwoman attacks big bats.

"In this world, there are no time for naps!"

I am going to use that line. Outloud. Today. So awesome. I own #51, but somehow I never read the end of this arc (probably because my comic shop sucks beyond belief and is, I kid you not, months behins on some titles).

THANK YOU

The "goddamn Batman" shoutout from the very tiny and juvenile Bats may be the thing that amused me most.

OK, this is hilarious. The initial 'Supes stoned out of his mind' bit is a classic, of course, but the rest is amazing, as well. "I'm the Goshdarn Batma..." "Be quiet."... Robin freaking out over the female mini-Leaguers' attentions... mini-Lantern making with the emoticons... mini-Batman's little retinue of flappy bat-things... mini-Catwoman's reaction to the full-sized Bats - it's all gold. It's an awful shame that it had to be capped off with a death, though.
