I have had this raven following me around for almost two weeks now and she is still nameless. This is not for lack of trying? Nothing seems to click and I'm starting to think it is a good thing we already know what our daughter's name will be thanks to Vallo, if I'm struggling this hard. So, in what may or may not be a great idea, I'm coming to you all for suggestions.

These are the ideas I have had and decided against so far:

Nova
Penelope
Dandelion
Peanut Butter (PB)
Sundae
Peaches

(Vix/Vux/Vyx is tentatively still on the table for now. I was not given adequate feedback when I asked someone at a very reasonable time of the night.)

Ideas? Even if I don't pick your idea, you will have my appreciation which might mean something, I don't know.

I'm with Wanda. Peaches the Raven sounds like a character in a children's story.

Now that I can absolutely see. The Adventures of Peaches the Raven.

It should have a terribly blunt moral and be slightly grim so as to traumatize its young audience. The mark of any good children's tale.

Those were some of my favorites. Elves really dip into their fey nature there.

Mine, too. Except I could never understand why we had to stay out of the woods, or do our chores, or listen to our parents. All the interesting stuff in stories happens when children don't.

Not many stories about elves where I'm from, though. Our priest was very adamant such things were of the devil. Little did he know

You make an incredibly good point, you know. It's hard to have adventures when you don't rebel at least a little.

It's still hard for me to wrap my head around there being worlds where things like elves just don't exist outside of stories. I'm half-elven myself.

I don't rule it out. It's possible they existed in my world and I just never encountered any. They may have just had the good sense to avoid humans like the plague we can be.

Is the elf/half-elf distinction important in your world?

I suppose every world probably has its secrets, so who is to say?

Yes and no? It depends on who you ask, honestly. In the eyes of some, we're never quite enough of either half--for myself it's human and elf, though that's not always the case. The elves that I spent the latter half of my childhood around were real dicks about it, but I've met plenty of other elves, and humans too, that couldn't give a shit.

It's nice to know that every world has its way of making people feel lesser based on the circumstances of their birth, or things they can't change about themselves. One of those fixed rules of sentient life, I suppose.

And by nice, I do mean depressing.

You can absolutely say that again. It got easier once my sister and I took off on our own and we found people who were far more open-minded about things, but it made for a rocky start.

At least you two had each other. That is, assuming you get along? I don't have siblings, but I know all relationships can be complicated.

That is exactly the sentiment, actually. She's my twin, so we've been relying on each other literally for as long as I can remember. I'm pretty lucky to have her.

I'm glad.

The question now, of course, is whether she should like a raven of her own or will Name Pending But Possibly Peaches cause a rift between you?

Your sister has a knack for tongue-in-cheek names. Maybe she should name the bird?
