Friday Night
Who: Jaime, Sirius
What: a night out
When: Friday night
Where: a bar in NYC
Rating: Low
Status: complete

They didn't go into the city proper nearly enough for her tastes. Sure, it was an hour and change by train, but it was the city for pity's sake. There was always something to do, someone to meet, something to drink, and unless she had to work before noon on Saturday, there was always the option to just spend the night somewhere.

She knew she could go by herself, and sometimes she did, but after the crime spike, she really, really preferred having people come with her. Especially people with powers that could take out an attacker.

That didn't exactly explain what she was doing in a bar by herself though. She guessed it was the usual scattering of interests. A couple of people wanted that club, a couple of people wanted to find somewhere to shop, and Jaime inevitably wound up wandering off on her own. She, at least, could find them if she needed to, and it wasn't as though she didn't know where the train station was to get back.

She hadn't had much to drink (recently, at any rate) and was more or less sober. Pale blue eyes played over the men present as she tried to scope out the interesting ones. Age was mostly irrelevant to her, and sometimes older men had their charms. Granted, she looked younger than she was, and that appealed to them, too. Mostly though, she was just interested in having a night out on the town without worrying about everything in her life there was to worry about.

Shifting slightly on the bar stool, Jaime played with her empty glass as she continued to look around, waiting to see whose eye she caught tonight. Chatting, bar hopping, something else, she was up for just about anything.

Sirius wasn't going to stay long, but he'd needed a bit of time to himself. And by 'himself' he meant away from people who knew him and preferably somewhere that served alcohol. He'd sold a couple of the galleons he'd had on him when he arrived and while he planned on using most of the money to help rent the flat, buying a drink or two seemed like a worthy cause as well.

Making his way to the bar, he settled on a stool a seat or two down from a brunette who looked about his age, maybe younger. When he caught the bartender's attention, he ordered a drink and shifted his gaze towards the girl while the bartender poured it. For a moment, he debated between wanting company and wanting to stew quietly by himself, but no, it was better to take his mind off it, wasn't it?

Once he had his drink, he left the stool he'd originally taken to occupy one next to the cute bird instead. "Hullo. Could you spare a moment to help a bloke out? It's terribly important and I'll buy you a drink for your trouble."

Grey eyes flicked to her empty glass before returning his focus to her face. He wore a smile that most people would find convincing enough and his brows were raised curiously as he regarded her.

"Bonus points for the accent," she replied. "I mean, if you'd come over here with just ... say, a Brooklyn accent or something, I wouldn't have been as interested in helping you out."

Jaime set her glass aside to free up her hand. Wiping the condensation off on her skirt, she extended her hand toward him. "Jaime Davies. What can I do for you?"

So far, this was a more interesting evening than she'd planned on, and she was very curious to see where it would go. The accent was neat, and 'help a bloke out' was a line she'd never heard before, so he got points for creativity as well. Didn't hurt that he was easy on the eyes, so with a little grin, she waited to see what was up.

"Sirius Black," he replied as he took her hand in his, shaking it. He could have dropped a fake name -- that was amusing sometimes -- but he didn't see a point right now and his name was often a point of conversation, especially with Muggle girls.

"It's lovely to meet you, Jaime. As you noticed, I'm not from around here. In fact it's only my third day in the States and I was hoping you might give me a few tips on etiquette in American bars. Do you like ridiculous pick up lines? Should I have sat on the other end of the bar and watched you with a mysterious expression while sending a drink over with the bar tender?" He grinned, "Or am I doing all right, so far?"

He had a feeling the accent would actually carry him a long way in American bars which he found incredibly amusing.

"Sirius," she repeated. "With an I or an E? Like the star or the opposite of amusing?" Either way, it was an interesting name, and she grinned a little. She'd kind of laugh if she found out it was with an E, and she'd have to wonder what his parents had been on.

"I bet the etiquette's probably the same as it is in English bars. I don't mind the occasional ridiculous line, but I think the more common route here is the sending drinks. Can't deprive the bartenders of their jobs as messengers," she pointed out, brows elevating slightly. "Or the ensuing confusion when a girl thinks the bartender was pointing at the tall handsome guy when he was in fact pointing at the shorter, not as handsome guy next to said handsome guy. I've seen that go down a time or two. Always hysterical. Even when I'm flat sober."

She regarded him, pale blue eyes sweeping over his face. "But so far, so good. Let's see what else you've got."

"With an I," he replied, an amused smile curving his lips. "My family had a thing for stars. Not many people pick that up right away, though. The usual response to my name is asking me if I'm serious so I appreciate your knowledge," giving her a playful wink.

He'd never really been a fan of sending drinks over, but he had used it a time or two. It felt a bit cowardly to him, but maybe birds liked it better; he could imagine it getting tiring, having bloke after bloke come over to say hello and having to shoot them down. It was easier to just refuse the drink.

"Suppose my next move is to actually buy you the drink I promised, if you're inclined," he raised his brows, lifting his own glass to take a sip.

"Funny, I have a thing for stars, too," she replied with a playful wink before she laughed quietly, then shrugged. "I read a lot. I work in a library, and the oddest things catch my eye, and I wind up reading as many books as I put away. So I have a vast repertoire of utterly useless knowledge."

Jaime nodded, then regarded his drink. "I'll try one of what you're having," she said as she shifted to face him properly. She did glance around once more, but only to make sure no one from the school had wandered in and was looking for her. At least they couldn't find her if she opted to hide, and a smug little smile pulled her lips.

"So what dragged you to this side of the pond? That's how it goes right? Across the pond?"

He tipped his head back as he laughed appreciatively. He flagged down the bartender and ordered a drink for her. Briefly, he considered asking if the library was hiring for Remus, even though he knew his friend already had a job. But all he was really looking for was a fun night and he didn't want to think about anything serious.

"But look at how that useless knowledge has benefited you tonight. You managed to impress a random bloke into buying you a drink," he grinned before thanking the tender when he was finished with Jaime's drink.

"Across the pond, yes. Very nice," he teased gently. Her choice of phrasing was interesting and he took a long drink to cover his smirk. "Would you like an interesting story, the truth, or something in between?"

"Oooh, impress. That sounds fancy," she replied. "Wonder what it says that you're so easily impressed though," she reflected thoughtfully, lifting one hand to tap her fingertips against her chin.

She reached down for the drink, lifting it up and giving it a curious sniff before taking a little sip of it. Well, it probably wasn't going to kill her, but she did make a note to keep track of how much she was drinking. She'd done the whole drinking to the point of not remembering thing before and it definitely wasn't anything she wanted to repeat.

"So the truth's not an interesting story?" Her brows elevated. "Because 'I'm here for school' would be the dull story. 'I come from another time' would be the interesting story but then I'd have to drill you to make sure you weren't a poser. So all right then. If those aren't the truth, let's here it."

"It says my standards have been lowered by years of running into silly girls in bars. Who knew I just needed to stake out libraries instead," he replied, half teasing. As shallow as it was, though, he rarely went to bars hoping to find stimulating conversation.

He narrowed his eyes, regarding her skeptically at the mention of coming from another time. "Well, now, hang on. What do you know about folks coming from other times?"

He had been debating how he was going to answer, but he thought it would be amusing (to him, at least) to tell the story of coming from another time if she asked for an interesting story and to completely make something up if she'd wanted the truth. If she already knew people were being displaced, well, that put a rather large hitch into his oh so clever plan.

"Everyone knows that's where the smart girls hang out," Jaime informed him with a solemn nod. "Granted, my library's like, an hour away so it would be a hell of a trip just to hang out there." She heaved an exaggerated sigh before she grinned. "I'm only there part time anyway. I'm at the movie theater the other part of the time just so people don't think I'm square." Then, of course, there were the trips into the cities which usually wound her into a bar, and occasionally into a bed.

"I know everything," she said before leaning in like she had a secret. "I know there are several of them, and I know they can't get out, but neither can we. But ..." she leaned back. "Aside from that, honestly, I don't know anything. I just know it's fun to screw with them on the bulletin boards." She paused. "Which is very wrong and bad of me. Shame on Jaime." She sucked in her cheeks slightly and shrugged, though it did remind her she hadn't messed with them lately. Maybe she'd stick up something when she got back to the mansion.

"But ... yeah. The ... time traveling stuff's relatively recent, and once that started, we couldn't leave. I'm not sure if we could have left before then, but I know we couldn't after. I mean, it's a decent sized area, you know? And we've got the city, but it's weird."

He leaned in when she did as if they were conspiring together, but she didn't end up knowing much more than he did which was disappointing. It was interesting to hear that she was trapped here. This was verging into territory he wasn't sure he actually wanted to talk about, though. It was going to get him thinking about how he was stuck here and how he really had no bloody idea how to fix it.

"Well, my story is much more interesting than that," he assured her, tipping back his head as he finished off his drink. He set the empty glass on the bar and flagged down the bartender to inform him he wanted another. It was his turn to lean towards her, resting his hand against her thigh as he did.

"I ... am a secret agent. Along the lines of James Bond, of course. I'd tell you exactly what my mission is, but it's highly confidential and dangerous. In fact, it's very likely I might die tomorrow. So I've come to this charming bar and sat next to a beautiful girl to enjoy what possibly might be my last night on earth," he finished solemnly, though there was the hint of a smile on his lips which said he didn't for a second expect her to actually believe him. He was curious if she'd play along or call him on it, though.

“Oh, see, there’s the flaw in your plan,” Jaime pointed out. She was aware of his hand against her thigh, but it wasn’t like he was the first man to get handsy with her, and this was mild, relatively speaking. “If it was possibly my last night on earth, I would’ve gone for a hooker. If I was a guy.” She paused. “Unless you already did the hooker thing and now you’re just after stimulating conversation while getting drunk.”

She doubted, very sincerely, he was a secret agent. Wasn’t the point of being a secret agent that you didn’t go telling everyone about it? Even so, Jaime nodded toward the door. “Don’t look, but there’s a man in a white coat and he’s got a gun. I bet he’s the enemy spy, right?” There was, of course, no man in a white coat with a gun, but … well, she could play, too.

“But you know, if you don’t want to tell me your story, that’s okay. I’ll just make one up in my head. ‘cept mine will involve Martians. Just so you know.” She grinned as she took a sip of her drink, flexing her leg slightly as she shifted her position a little on the stool.

“Hookers aren’t really my style,” he replied, “but I appreciate the advice. I’ll consider it next time I’m facing mortal danger.” Reaching for his new drink, which he thought would probably be his last, he took a sip and briefly flicked his eyes towards the door even though he knew there wasn’t going to be a man in a white coat. It was just a reflex to look when someone said not to.

He waved his free hand dismissively, “That’s my partner. I wouldn’t look for too long, though; his gun isn’t the only thing he likes to wave around once he gets drunk.”

Removing his hand from her thigh, he let his elbow rest against the bar, “I’ve had a horrible few days. I wouldn’t mind a Martian or two at this point,” he tried to smile to soften it, but it felt like it came out wrong and he shook his head lightly as he took another drink. Maybe he should have gone to a hooker.

“So do you go to university?” He asked, to switch the subject.

Jaime grinned when he looked, and wondered if he was the sort to look too if she were to start focusing on the ceiling like she was tracking a fly. It was her favorite thing to do, for reasons known only to her, but everyone at the mansion already knew better than to look when she started doing that.

“Yeah? Want to talk about it? I could give you a massage,” she offered, waggling her brows some. “I’ve had training.” Well, sort of. Between books and classes -- such as they were -- she at least had the basic idea of it.

She shook her head to his question. “I probably should. Thank you, by the way, for not asking if I’m still in high school.” She looked it, and she knew she did, but she didn’t like people thinking she was that young. “But no. I’m kind of bouncing around life at the moment. I work a couple of part time jobs, saving up money though … for what, I don’t know yet.

“I’ve been thinking about moving into the city, because it’s where all the action is, but … going from paying no rent to paying any rent is not high on my list of wants right now. So I’d have to find a job here. Like an actual job, not … what I’m doing now, screwing around and whatnot. Then I’d have to find people to live with, and it just seems like a hassle to avoid a few hours on a train every weekend.”

She sipped her drink and shrugged. “Besides, I don’t actually know for sure what I want to do yet. Career-wise, I mean. The options for girls are so … limited.”

"I'd take a massage, but I don't want to talk about it." He was sort of amused that she tacked on the bit about having training. He couldn't imagine there were many blokes out there who would ask, 'wait, have you have training?' before accepting a massage from her.

Maybe he should talk about it, and there was something safer about spilling things to a stranger, but he'd never been extremely good at sharing feelings. Curious if he would get the massage without talking about it, or if they went hand in hand, he regarded her with arched brows.

He stopped short of mentioning how ridiculous Muggles were when it came to women and jobs. Sure, there were plenty of Pureblood families who thought a woman's place was in the house making heirs, but it seemed like there were just as many who didn't think women should be limited.

"Seems like a waste, if you ask me. Limiting girls like that, I mean," he clarified, shrugging his shoulders.

"Don't want to talk about the massage, or the issue?" She teased before she shrugged. "Up to you, but I heard bottling your feelings gave you ulcers." She regarded him. "I can keep a secret if it's that kind of issue," she assured him. Honestly, she didn't care either way, but the offer was there if he wanted to talk.

"If you have a place to go to, we can head there." She knew she'd catch a lecture if Charles happened to be looking and saw her -- yet again -- sauntering off with a stranger, but maybe he'd settle for just giving her a look and shaking his head at her.

"It is," she agreed. "But we're not really that progressive. We're prejudiced and of the mind that only men can do anything in the work place but are utterly useless in the house, and factors of birth beyond your control can get you kicked out of places. What a fuckin' country, right?" Jaime made a face. "Sorry. I get all uppity about issues like that. Different is bad and don't you tell that man otherwise."

Granted, she had her own reasons to despise that mentality. Maybe if society was a little more open-minded, her parents wouldn't have ditched her, and she wouldn't have wound up in the lab. Not that she could complain about where she was now ... she would have just rather taken a less traumatic path there.

Sirius looked vaguely amused and he gave it brief consideration, but no. He knew it was a bit dysfunctional, but he had system that worked for him. Maybe he'd spend some time as Padfoot or pick a fight with Lily. Neither of which really addressed his current issues, but they usually made him feel better, strangely enough.

He sucked in some air through his teeth as he realized he didn't really have a place to go and he wasn't sure renting a hotel room was worth it, when he didn't have unlimited money to throw around. "I don't, actually. I'm staying with a friend and the place is tiny. I suppose I'll just let your charming conversation relax me." He didn't think Lily would be surprised if he brought a girl home, but he wasn't sure she would appreciate it.

"Come now. We're hardly useless in the home. How would you women know what to clean and what we want for dinner if we weren't around to tell you?" He smirked, but he knew there were plenty of folks who probably believed that.

It was always interesting to hear how issues paralleled between the wizarding and Muggle world. "What a fucking world," he replied, lifting his glass in a mock toast before taking a sip of it.

Jaime nodded, wondering if that was a true story or if he lived alone and hadn’t cleaned the place. She grinned a little and it wasn’t as though it actually mattered either way. “Some other time. Remind me later and I’ll give you my number. I can show you around my mansion in Westchester.” She winked playfully, wondering if he’d buy the mansion bit. Oh, sure, she lived in one, but it wasn’t hers.

“Point to you,” she replied. “You’re right. A woman would not know what to make for dinner or buy at the grocery store if a man didn’t tell her. The cleaning thing though … I think ‘everything’ is pretty much a given there. Men like their tidy houses,” Jaime continued before laughing softly. She took a sip of her drink and shook her head a little. She mock toasted him back before she rested her drink on the bartop.

“So since we all know the James Bond thing’s a lie, what’s your real deal? Or is it part of the issue we’re not discussing?” Again, she didn’t really care, but conversation was conversation, and she liked hers to be interesting.

He raised his brows, attempting to look impressed, but he looked more amused than anything else at her claim of a mansion. Not that he really thought she was trying to impress him, but it just struck him funny, especially if she was working at a library and movie theater and saving up money. “Well, I don’t know how anyone could turn down a tour of a mansion...” he replied with a grin.

“And we’d be helpless to keep our houses tidy without you lot. So don’t think us menfolk don’t know how essential you are to our lives,” he continued to tease before considering her question about his real story.

“I suppose I can skirt around the bits I don’t want to talk about and you’ll be none the wiser. I am, for the record, horribly offended that you don’t believe I could be a secret agent,” he said in a voice that didn’t sound offended at all.

Sirius took a last sip of his drink before setting the empty glass on the bar top. He stretched out his arms as if he was preparing to do some impressive feat instead of just giving her a bit of background on him.

“I come from money and I’ve never worked a day in my life. However, given that I’m a disgrace to my family, I was disowned … which turned out rather well for me, actually. Skip forward a few years and things that I don’t want to talk about went to hell and here I am, without much money to my name. I do have mates here though and it could be worse.” He shrugged. “Suppose that might bring up more questions than give answers, but it is a brief snapshot of my life.”

She laughed and nudged his shin with the tip of her shoe. "I really do live in one. It's not mine. I'm an orphan and they took me in." It was ... well, it was a flat-out lie, as far as she knew. Her parents were still alive, but they didn't want a goddamn thing to do with her. She also figured she shouldn't be sharing everything about where she lived, but ... well. She could share the interesting bits as conversation warranted.

"And don't forget the sex," she pointed out. "When we're not tidying, cleaning, or cooking, we should be naked and ready in case the urge strikes."

Jaime did listen to his story, a queer look contorting her expression when he mentioned being disowned, and she very nearly asked if he was a mutant too before she caught herself. "Why'd they. Um. Why'd they ditch you?" There was a sort of eagerness to the question, though she wasn't aware of it. It would be nice to find a kindred spirit, someone who could really understand what it was like to be tossed aside. She wondered if that was his case, or if he'd wanted to be away from them. Some kids did, she knew.

"Were you left in a basket on their doorstep in the middle of a rainy night?" Sirius asked, a grin on his lips. He shook his head then, but still looked amused. "No, I do believe you," he tried to assure her. He knew he probably shouldn't tease about what could have been a horrible situation for her, but an orphan being taken in by someone in a mansion just sounded like something out of a story.

Curious about the look she gave him, he cocked his head to the side and half shrugged. It was a little complicated to explain without going into wizarding politics. "My family believes a lot of things that I don't. About ... social issues, not something ridiculous like Santa Claus," he clarified, hopefully needlessly, with a smirk. "I was supposed to just be the perfect son, do as I'm told, believe what they wanted me to. I finally couldn't take it anymore so one summer I ran away to a mate's house.

"After that, I suppose they figured I wasn't worth the trouble and disowned me." He was glad to be away from them and knew he was better off, but sometimes it still stung.

Jaime shook her head slightly. "Disowned," she said with a little shrug. "When I was thirteen, for circumstances beyond my control." There was more than a little bitterness in her voice, and she looked away for a moment before she regarded him again.

"I wound up as a ward of the state before I found my way to the mansion," she said. Sure, that was the super short story, but she didn't really want to get into the 'and I was in a lab for years to be grossly experimented on' because ... well, that just wasn't first meeting conversation.

She was a little disappointed he'd left voluntarily so it wasn't quite the same -- he'd wanted to be away from his family. She hadn't. Well, now, obviously, yes she did if they were so quick to cast her off. She wondered if they ever missed her. Ever thought about her. Ever wished they hadn't.

"That's still ..." Jaime shook her head. "Parents shouldn't be like that."

Ah. He got the impression that she had taken it much harder than he had. It had hurt him to be disowned, but it was more the loss of what he thought a family should be. He genuinely hated the majority of his family and was glad to be out of it. Luckily he had his mates and the Potters.

"Some people shouldn't be parents. Mine, especially." His lips twitched into a wry grin. Discounting their horrible personalities, the fact that they were cousins was another reason, but he managed not to bring that up. "But I like to think I turned out just fine, in spite of them. Looks like you're doing all right as well.

"Should we start a club, then? The Society of Disowned Children Who Happened to Meet in a Bar?" He leaned over to nudge her lightly with his elbow, a little smile on his lips.

"Yeah. No thanks to them though," Jaime replied. "They probably don't even care if I'm alive." She shrugged like it didn't matter, but it always bugged her when she thought about it, or talked out loud about it.

She grinned. "What're the odds do you think of us finding more disowned children in bars?" She nudged him back with a grin of her own before she finished off her drink and set the glass aside. "Maybe I'll put up some notes on the bulletin boards or something. Seeking disowned children for club, inquire within."

Shaking her head, she looked around the bar again before fixing her pale blue eyes on him. "So what do you think of it here? In ... this time. Place. Whichever. Both."

"I wouldn't have thought the odds of us meeting in the first place were very high," he admitted, but there were a lot of assholes out there, so perhaps it was more likely than he'd thought to run into someone else who had been disowned.

He pulled a slight face when she implied he was from another time before releasing a half chuckle, half sigh. Of course, she was right, but he didn't think he'd come out and admitted it. It didn't really make a difference either way, he guessed, and it wasn't as if he was doing that great of a job at keeping his mind off things anyway.

"I'm more put off by the place than the time. Well, I'm the most put off by not having any of my things." And by things he meant money and James, he added wryly in his mind.

He wasn't honestly sure how he felt about any of it. He was overwhelmed and tired and poor and angry and relieved and too many emotions that conflicted and confused him. He'd been sleeping as a dog to lessen it all for a few hours at least and wasn't sure he saw that changing anytime soon.

"Suppose it could be worse though." He could be home and two of his friends could be dead.

Jaime made a slight noise of agreement or something like it. "Well, we did meet, and I can find other disowned children." She was pretty sure, anyway. Granted, the bulk of the pulls were going to be at an orphanage or something, but ... maybe not.

She nodded. "I couldn't imagine," she admitted. "Being projected through time, to a new place, with nothing to my name." Granted, she could find whatever she needed to survive, but that didn't mean it would be pleasant. Or that it was something she'd ever want to do.

"Could always be worse. You could be dead. Or crippled. Deaf. Missing limbs. Blind. Disfigured. At least you appear to be whole and functional, so you have to figure that's a plus, any way you look at it."

Jaime reached for her drink only to recall it was empty. Probably just as well; she didn't need to be drinking more tonight. Otherwise she'd wind up making Bad Decisions, and she really didn't need that.

Sirius arched a brow. "You know I wasn't actually looking to form a club, yeah?" He asked, mostly teasing her, but he didn't know her well enough to figure out if she was kidding about being able to find other disowned children. But the idea of sitting around with a bunch of kids with chips on their shoulders didn't sound appealing to him.

"That is a bright side, I suppose. I've still got my good looks and all my limbs," he glanced towards their empty drinks when she reached for hers and he sighed heavily.

"I should probably get going." He wasn't sure when the magical meeting was going to be over, but since he didn't have a bed to lure her -- or anyone else -- back into and he didn't plan on drinking anymore, he figured that meant it was about time for him to head home. Or at least to change venues. Maybe he'd go to the park or for an aimless walk before heading back to the welcome center. "My mates can't survive too long without me."

Jaime sighed. "There you go, getting my hopes up," she teased him. She hadn't really thought he'd been serious, but the point still stood. She could find people if there was a club.

She regarded him for a moment, narrowing her eyes briefly. "Average looks," she said. "You'll be hotter when you're older," she assured him with a little grin. Well, maybe that wasn't true. Lots of younger guys looked just fine, but sometimes the older ones weren't so bad looking.

Her chin dipped in a nod when he said he should go. She probably should, too, if she was going to find someplace to crash tonight. "Well," she said as she fished in her pockets. "It was nice to meet you, Sirius with an I like the star," she said as she scribbled down her number on a napkin. "If you're ever up in Westchester, call and I'll show you around," she said as she slid the napkin toward him. "You can even see my mansion."

"The fact that I'll be hotter when I'm older doesn't detract from how hot I am now. Average looks," he echoed with a (mostly) teasing scoff. "Honestly."

He took the napkin with a little grin, and nodded, "I will," he agreed, wondering if he'd ever have cause to make it up there. Either way, it'd been nice chatting with her ... not as nice as having a bed to lure her into, but he didn't think Lily would appreciate him trying to shag someone in her bed and he was still paranoid about her having a room of her own -- even if she'd survived perfectly fine alone before he showed up.

"And it was nice to meet you as well. Perhaps I'll see you at the next club meeting then," he teased before withdrawing his wallet to pay for their drinks. He liked to think he had a handle on Muggle money, but American Muggle money added an extra element and it was clear enough that he wasn't adept at it while he slowly fished out the appropriate amount of money to leave.

She grinned. "Well, I was just trying to deflate your ego some so you could fit out the door," she teased him back. "I mean, if a guy has to say he's hot ..." Jaime arched her brows to let him assume whatever he'd like about how that sentence would end.

She wondered if he would call, and if it would matter either way. Chance meetings in bars rarely met with any followup, and she certainly wasn't going to hold her breath.

Watching him fiddle with his money made her wonder if he was tipsy or if his vision was blurry. "I wouldn't tip them that much," she said. Maybe he didn't know the cost of drinks? It was possible, if he was new. Reaching across, she plucked a couple of the smaller bills free and set those on the bar. "There," she declared before she resettled herself on her stool. She'd let him make his escape, and then she'd see about either catching a late train back or finding somewhere to crash for a little while. Maybe she'd play it safe and rent a room and just spend tomorrow in the city too.

"People have been trying to deflate my ego for years. It's yet to work," he replied with a playful wink. While he knew his ego might be just a tad big, he didn't think there was anything wrong with knowing that he was attractive. He didn't expect everyone to agree, though.

"I'm used to having more money than I do," he half quipped when she adjusted the amount of money he was leaving for the drinks. He did appreciate it, especially since he was suddenly on a limited income.

"Have a good night," he added before turning to make his way out of the bar. Once he was outside, he'd decide what he wanted to do, but in the end, he would probably just head back to Lily's room to see if she and Remus were back from the magical meeting yet.
