Friday Night
Who: Jaime, Sirius
What: a night out
When: Friday night
Where: a bar in NYC
Rating: Low
Status: complete

They didn't go into the city proper nearly enough for her tastes. Sure, it was an hour and change by train, but it was the city for pity's sake. There was always something to do, someone to meet, something to drink, and unless she had to work before noon on Saturday, there was always the option to just spend the night somewhere.

She knew she could go by herself, and sometimes she did, but after the crime spike, she really, really preferred having people come with her. Especially people with powers that could take out an attacker.

That didn't exactly explain what she was doing in a bar by herself though. She guessed it was the usual scattering of interests. A couple of people wanted that club, a couple of people wanted to find somewhere to shop, and Jaime inevitably wound up wandering off on her own. She, at least, could find them if she needed to, and it wasn't as though she didn't know where the train station was to get back.

She hadn't had much to drink (recently, at any rate) and was more or less sober. Pale blue eyes played over the men present as she tried to scope out the interesting ones. Age was mostly irrelevant to her, and sometimes older men had their charms. Granted, she looked younger than she was, and that appealed to them, too. Mostly though, she was just interested in having a night out on the town without worrying about everything in her life there was to worry about.

Shifting slightly on the bar stool, Jaime played with her empty glass as she continued to look around, waiting to see whose eye she caught tonight. Chatting, bar hopping, something else, she was up for just about anything.

Sirius arched a brow. "You know I wasn't actually looking to form a club, yeah?" He asked, mostly teasing her, but he didn't know her well enough to figure out if she was kidding about being able to find other disowned children. But the idea of sitting around with a bunch of kids with chips on their shoulders didn't sound appealing to him.

"That is a bright side, I suppose. I've still got my good looks and all my limbs," he glanced towards their empty drinks when she reached for hers and he sighed heavily.

"I should probably get going." He wasn't sure when the magical meeting was going to be over, but since he didn't have a bed to lure her -- or anyone else -- back into and he didn't plan on drinking anymore, he figured that meant it was about time for him to head home. Or at least to change venues. Maybe he'd go to the park or for an aimless walk before heading back to the welcome center. "My mates can't survive too long without me."

Jaime sighed. "There you go, getting my hopes up," she teased him. She hadn't really thought he'd been serious, but the point still stood. She could find people if there was a club.

She regarded him for a moment, narrowing her eyes briefly. "Average looks," she said. "You'll be hotter when you're older," she assured him with a little grin. Well, maybe that wasn't true. Lots of younger guys looked just fine, but sometimes the older ones weren't so bad looking.

Her chin dipped in a nod when he said he should go. She probably should, too, if she was going to find someplace to crash tonight. "Well," she said as she fished in her pockets. "It was nice to meet you, Sirius with an I like the star," she said as she scribbled down her number on a napkin. "If you're ever up in Westchester, call and I'll show you around," she said as she slid the napkin toward him. "You can even see my mansion."

"The fact that I'll be hotter when I'm older doesn't detract from how hot I am now. Average looks," he echoed with a (mostly) teasing scoff. "Honestly."

He took the napkin with a little grin, and nodded, "I will," he agreed, wondering if he'd ever have cause to make it up there. Either way, it'd been nice chatting with her ... not as nice as having a bed to lure her into, but he didn't think Lily would appreciate him trying to shag someone in her bed and he was still paranoid about her having a room of her own -- even if she'd survived perfectly fine alone before he showed up.

"And it was nice to meet you as well. Perhaps I'll see you at the next club meeting then," he teased before withdrawing his wallet to pay for their drinks. He liked to think he had a handle on Muggle money, but American Muggle money added an extra element and it was clear enough that he wasn't adept at it while he slowly fished out the appropriate amount of money to leave.

She grinned. "Well, I was just trying to deflate your ego some so you could fit out the door," she teased him back. "I mean, if a guy has to say he's hot ..." Jaime arched her brows to let him assume whatever he'd like about how that sentence would end.

She wondered if he would call, and if it would matter either way. Chance meetings in bars rarely met with any followup, and she certainly wasn't going to hold her breath.

Watching him fiddle with his money made her wonder if he was tipsy or if his vision was blurry. "I wouldn't tip them that much," she said. Maybe he didn't know the cost of drinks? It was possible, if he was new. Reaching across, she plucked a couple of the smaller bills free and set those on the bar. "There," she declared before she resettled herself on her stool. She'd let him make his escape, and then she'd see about either catching a late train back or finding somewhere to crash for a little while. Maybe she'd play it safe and rent a room and just spend tomorrow in the city too.

"People have been trying to deflate my ego for years. It's yet to work," he replied with a playful wink. While he knew his ego might be just a tad big, he didn't think there was anything wrong with knowing that he was attractive. He didn't expect everyone to agree, though.

"I'm used to having more money than I do," he half quipped when she adjusted the amount of money he was leaving for the drinks. He did appreciate it, especially since he was suddenly on a limited income.

"Have a good night," he added before turning to make his way out of the bar. Once he was outside, he'd decide what he wanted to do, but in the end, he would probably just head back to Lily's room to see if she and Remus were back from the magical meeting yet.
