"It says my standards have been lowered by years of running into silly girls in bars. Who knew I just needed to stake out libraries instead," he replied, half teasing. As shallow as it was, though, he rarely went to bars hoping to find stimulating conversation.
He narrowed his eyes, regarding her skeptically at the mention of coming from another time. "Well, now, hang on. What do you know about folks coming from other times?"
He had been debating how he was going to answer, but he thought it would be amusing (to him, at least) to tell the story of coming from another time if she asked for an interesting story and to completely make something up if she'd wanted the truth. If she already knew people were being displaced, well, that put a rather large hitch into his oh so clever plan.
