Community Rules

This comm is open to anyone to post codes, layouts, resources, tutorials, and requests for help and content. Of course, we do have some rules, so please read through them before jumping in; thank you!

Treat others the way you'd like to be treated. This is not a drama comm, and we expect you guys to be awesome and stay civil. If a situation gets out of hand, please contact a mod, and leave comments intact so we can accurately handle the situation.

Please tag your posts and check out the tagging guide if you have any questions!

■ Very long posts or posts formatted with your own div styling for organization should be behind a cut to save people's f-lists.

Work safe above the cut, please!

■ If posting codes, guides, etc. absolutely do not post content that you did not make. That's stealing, and it's super uncool, bro! If you are posting expanded/edited codes made by yourself using another user's coding as well, please be sure you have their permission (You do not need direct permission if they allow edits to be re-posted in their blanket rules.)
■ Do not post tutorials/links to tutorials that show people how to steal codes from other users. Again: Stealing. Not cool.
When asking for help with something, please check the help tags (help: coding, help: graphics, help: icons, help: layouts, help: other) first to see if your question has already been posted and answered to avoid duplicates.

We do not allow game ads to be posted on this comm since there are so many communities specifically for that already; if you're pimping a game as an addition to a regular post, that's fine. (OK: You post an RP code and mention in the post, oh hey, also I'm running this game! NOT OK: Posts dedicated to game promo.)

We do allow other types of community promos if they are related to RP (icon comms, other types of resource comms, etc.) Just shoot us a comment in our dropbox beforehand and we'll let you know if it's cool to post!

kind of a strange request, but would anyone be able to offer insight on the differences between big fandom style games (i.e. what’s found at wanna-rp) vs. original, pb style roleplay (i.e. anything at ~pbads)?

i can’t count the instances of wanting to join a game with a cool, clever concept, only to shy away from applying because i don’t have a full understanding of the mechanics. as someone who’s mostly done massive harry potter games her entirety of rp, i think i’d be lost trying to transition to ic/ooc posts, customs, etc. and since those games are typically all f-locked, i’ve never had much of an opportunity to learn by example.

anyone out there willing to give me a run down?

Hi! So at various points in the not-so-distant past, I joined both ~exosolar and ~veritatem, because I was drawn by the worldbuilding (mainly with the former) or the genre (the latter). Unfortunately, I was completely thrown by the customs culture and the emphasis on highly formatted posts for... everything (or so it seemed to me!), and while I managed to find some juicy lines, I often felt I was on the back foot due to so much seemingly happening behind-the-scenes (ie in a customs post). In the end, I bowed out of both; I think there was just too much happening in different places, and I'm quite stuck on the "HP-style" way of having a character journal that enables me to post network things and logs/etc in one place where all the other players can read it too.

Happy to be corrected! I do remember being blown away by the creativity demonstrated in those communities, both in the substance of the narratives and the visual appeal of some of the coding. :)

ahh, this helps tremendously! i think customs maybe started as a place for people to sort of spam/shitpost each other privately, but in more recent years it seemed to have developed into a more common thing. so i wondered how important they were in terms of plotting. so thanks for confirming some of that for me!

and i agree wholeheartedly, i admire the creativity at ~exosolar with their worldbuilding and even just in the replies i've seen to storyline requests. i wish i wasn't such an old, lazy dinosaur set in my ways, lol.

thank you for your reply!
