Redux: an AU Harry Potter RPG

Hi all,

Just a quick reminder that the plot posts are ongoing - if you sign up for a space, please, please use it. Whether it's a thread, an owl, a newspaper post, or a journal; they're designed to encourage activity, and it's a shame to see so many days pass by without the plots appearing.

These posts are a lot of work, and it's disheartening for us, as well. In February we had six characters out of 13 (eight, if we include dropped characters) who didn't play out the plots they'd requested. So far in March, we have two unplayed.

If you're struggling for plot ideas, take a look at the plot post. Try a bingo square. Approach someone new. Come to one of the mods. We want everyone to enjoy themselves here, and stretch their writing muscles.

If you have any suggestions on other ways to encourage participation or plotting with people you wouldn't normally interact with, please feel free to drop us a line either at the mod email, or by prodding one of us in chat. We don't bite, I promise.

Second piece of business - we'll be posting about the upcoming election, and how Aberforth's meddling might start to become apparent, in the next few days. Your patience is hugely appreciated on that front!

If you haven't done so already, please grab a spot from the plot post. We still have several open spaces. Players are now free to grab one extra space.

If you do claim a plot, please remember to play it out. Th.re have been times in the past couple of months where plots have been claimed and then nothing has occurred. Otherwise it is unfair to those who would like to participate, but are unable to.

Just an FYI over the next week or two we will be going over all of the spreadsheets (Hogwarts Years, Prefects, Hogwarts Quidditch, BIL, and World Cup) and location pages to make sure everything is up to date. Previously we haven’t added siblings/children/other family members to any of these lists. We would like to going forward. There will be an upcoming post for you to give us all your corrections/additions so if you could please comment with any missing information (and which spreadsheet it belongs to) that would be greatly appreciated. For location information you can either post there or on the locations page itself. Mainly we are looking for descriptions, hours, and images. We have over 70 characters (at last count) and don’t quite have the time to trawl through that information.

Hey Everyone!

We were planning on a mod post anyway, but we had a few things come up that need to be addressed and if we are being honest with ourselves, should have been addressed earlier.

Concerns were raised about reactions and interactions in Kingsley Shacklebolt’s and Evan Rosier’s recent journal posts. Both characters publicly posted very similar neutral messages yet received a very different reaction.

There could be numerous reasons for this. We would like to think that there were different people around to comment at the time. Difference characters are going to have different reactions. There is also the possibility that people are taking out of character knowledge and applying it to in character interactions. We’ve noticed that several people are failing to respond to new character intros and are falling back on the HP canon. Due to the AU nature of the game some traditionally held knowledge of the HP world isn’t applicable. Things mentioned in chat might be useful for long term plotting, but might not be immediate character knowledge for any or all characters.

If you are unsure about something about a character please check with the player. If you are unsure about something affecting the whole game/world building please check with a mod. If neither of us are in chat/unavailable please shoot an email to the mod email (reduxmodlies@gmail.com) over our personal emails. This just ensures that everyone is kept in the loop.

With that being said, now that the game has been open for six weeks and characters have been given a chance to settle in we are looking to get some plot moving forward. Right now we have two veins of plot we are looking to explore: the change of a new administration after Fudge retires and the fact that someone has started to put together the pieces that someone (Aberforth) messed with the timeline.

We have no interest from swinging from one extreme (a relaxed, happy, social game) to the other (a dark, angst-driven, skyrocketing body count game with outrageous laws), but we know that we promised plot to you, our wonderful amazing players, when you joined. We should be held to those promises.

What we would like is for you to comment here (they are screened) is to let us know what you are comfortable with in terms of game play, what you might be looking forward to when it comes to your characters, any ideas you might have for the plot posts, and certainly what you are NOT looking for in a game. We do not want to lose any of you because you felt like your opinions/characters were not wanted or valued. This game is as much yours as it is ours. This community would not exist without you and everything you all have put into it.

What you can expect from us shortly is a Daily Prophet article detailing how the ‘election’ process is supposed to go. Whose names people can expect to be in the running/rumored to be in the running. The different ideologies floating around. Hopefully this will clear up some confusion and get everyone on the same page.

Please let us know if you have any concerns. If we don’t know something’s going on we can’t fix it. We’ll have another mod post in the next week or so/around the 1st that is more general housekeeping and all of that. Thank you for all the hard work and amazing lines you've created. We couldn't do it without you.

A couple of things to announce before we get to the plot post for the next month. First, people will be allowed to pick up their 5th and 6th character in their second month of being in the game. This is still up to mod discretion, however. Second, BINGO has been changed slightly going forward. There is a card up for grabs (HTML all included) in the post. It will link to a spreadsheet with 20 prompts per category. Players will be able to pick and choose from those prompts to fill their card. There is still a lot of overlap with the previous cards so please do not feel like you have to scrap what you've done so far. Old style BINGO cards will still be accepted for the challenge credit.
