Redux: an AU Harry Potter RPG

HI, FRIENDS. I have been not-here because I've been crazy busy prepping for the show I'm about to start doing, and I lost track of time noooo D: But I'm still around and so are all of these nerds! Would anyone mind catching me up on what's been going on? And is anyone up for threads? :D

Hellooooo, friends! I am leaving for New York tomorrow to see Hamilton (*screams internally*)! I'm only going to be gone for a couple of days (I get back on Friday morning), but to conserve my iPod's battery life, I will of course have to turn AIM Mobile off. You can still reach me fairly quickly by email if you want to talk to me about anything!

Hello friends, Caitlin here! This is not really a hiatus notice because I still expect to be around and posting, more a heads-up that I won't be on AIM as much for the next two weeks. On Monday we start tech week and then performance weekend for the show I'm directing, and the Monday after I turn around and go straight into tech week for the show I'm stage crew for. AIM Mobile is always on, so if you leave me a message I will see it whenever I'm in wifi and not busy, and of course there's always email too! Someday eventually I will be less busy and it will be glorious.

I DO THESE THINGS SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO! I have compiled a list for next month's challenge of the country of origin of as many of our British characters as I could figure out. Please comment if I got it wrong or if you can correctly place the characters I wasn't sure of!

Bonsoir, mes amis! Caitlin here with number six, Gabrielle Delacour.

Gabrielle is eighteen years old, Beauxbatons, class of 2001. She is moving to England to be with her beloved big sister. She will be an apprentice clockmaker at Cogg and Bell, and she also raises kittens for the Magical Menagerie and tries to break into the acting business.

Gaby is sweet and friendly and generous and wonderful. She totally would've been a Hufflepuff if she had gone to Hogwarts, but alas, she did not. She is also indecisive, rather spineless, and addicted to invalidism. She imagines illnesses all the time and doesn't have any idea that this is subconscious attention-seeking behaviour; the anxiety was brought on originally by the second task of the Triwizard Tournament, but it's less about hypochondria and more about liking to be taken care of. She is absolutely devoted to Fleur and won't hear a negative word against her.

HELLO FRIENDS, it is I, Caitlin! And this is David Shafiq!

Almost none of your characters will know him to start off with, because David was kidnapped by his Death Eater father shortly after he was born and grew up in total isolation in an unplottable manor. Back in early December, his father finally passed away, the magic hiding the house collapsed, and the Ministry found twenty-year-old David. The Prophet reported on this at the time and probably occasionally brought it up (though not as front page news) in the weeks since, but David has been pretty limited to a handful of DMLE employees and some St. Mungo's staff while everyone tries to figure out what the hell to do about him.

He's a pretty nice kid, all things considered, but he has plenty of issues from how he was raised. He doesn't emote much, if at all, he doesn't know how to read body language, he doesn't know slang, and he doesn't like shoes. He has the emotional capacity of a teaspoon and basically zero coping mechanisms. He's read a lot of books (A LOT of books) and most of his understanding of humanity comes from various novels. He is going to be working at Warehouse 13 as a member of the Dark Artefacts Task Force for the ICW. Apart from that he is going to be around, meeting people, learning things, being adorable and weird and stuff!

GIVE ME ALL OF THE PLOT. Also SOMEBODY PICK UP HIS MOTHER.

Hello friends and comrades, Caitlin here! I am a nerd who cares a lot about COMPLETIONISM and there's only about two-thirds of the month left for us all to complete the backstory challenge! This is an open offer to do any backstory threads anybody wants - I'm happy to start the threads and I will even find a ludicrous way to involve any bingo prompts you want (though bonus points if they're also on my cards, obvs :P)

Hello, friends! It's Caitlin again, because I have a problem or something. Today I have two new characters, Peter Pettigrew (couldbeahero) and Parvati Patil. [EDITED TO ADD Ken Chambers because I REALLY DO HAVE A PROBLEM OR SOMETHING]

Parvati here is a Gryffindor, class of '98, an outgoing and passionate young woman who works as a junior reporter for the Daily Prophet. She likes to know everything about everyone - she's a fan of gossip, of course, and an inveterate snoop. The Patils are about as close to pureblood as you can get without actually being pureblooded, and Parvati hung out with some future Slytherins as a child, though she doesn't have a bigoted or purist bone in her body. She needs lots of friends!

Peter is also a Gryffindor, class of '78. He takes great pains to present himself to the world as a cheerful and bumbling soul, but this masks a rather quick-witted mind. He owns and operates a private security firm/private detective agency in Knockturn Alley, and makes pretty good money there. Why the interest in investigative work? Well, when he got Imperiused and then Obliviated back in 1980, it really freaked him out, and he has spent half his life obsessing over who messed with his mind and why. He's a nice guy, more or less, but he tends to be extremely private and paranoid, and avoids making close friends outside the ones he already has...even though he would really like some friends who like him more than they like each other :(

Ken Chambers (just_ken) is a Ravenclaw, class of '96, former Quidditch Chaser and current rock star. He is the lead singer/guitarist for the band Quake, which really took off in the past year - if your character is remotely music-savvy or like, ever turns on the radio at all, they've heard of Quake, though they may or may not actually know Ken's name. He lives in Hogsmeade with the band in a manor they call the Panquake House with two dogs, Chicken and Chicken IIoo. Ken is an empathetic and personable charmer, creative and smart and a little bit nerdy. He is also an outrageous slacker when it comes to things he's not super invested in, was the despair of his professors back at Hogwarts, and has been accurately described as "obnoxious" and "immature" both by his detractors and by me. But he's really a nice guy, promise! He is remarkably down-to-earth for someone with his level of fame, largely because the fame isn't why he plays music at all.

Hi, everyone! I'm Caitlin, and I'm happy to be joining the game! My first (and so far only, BUT I'M WORKING ON IT) character is Regulus Black.

Regulus was a Slytherin, class of '79, prefect and Quidditch Seeker back in the day, who made some terrible choices and ended up joining a terrorist organisation. I know. Fortunately he came to his senses in time to fake his own death, retrieve the Horcrux, and eventually get it into Dumbledore's hands, at which point he turned himself in to the Ministry and was offered a reprieve (largely because Dumbledore, off the record, explained that Regulus had been Very Helpful to the war effort). Ever since then, Regulus pretty much feels like his past is haunting him, even though he's tried to leave it behind. He works as an Unspeakable at the Department of Mysteries, studying and creating experimental charms.

Regulus is a nice guy once you get to know him, promise, but getting to know him can be tough because he's extremely neurotic and reclusive. He feels like people mostly see him as "that Death Eater who got away with it," though twenty-some years later, at least a few people are probably over it, right? He's introverted anyway and mostly sticks to the circle of friends he already has, but even if he isn't usually in the mood for meeting new people, I always am! It can be tough to get past the walls he puts up, but he's a generous and loyal friend to those who manage it. Oh, and anyone who messes with his brother is going to regret it.

I am always up for plot, so please don't be shy about contacting me if you get the urge! My AIM is Naodrith, but it's generally better to contact me through email (naodrith@gmail.com) or PMs, or try to get my attention in chat, because sometimes AIM is iffy about who it wants to let speak to me.
