A couple of things to announce before we get to the plot post for the next month. First, people will be allowed to pick up their 5th and 6th character in their second month of being in the game. This is still up to mod discretion, however. Second, BINGO has been changed slightly going forward. There is a card up for grabs (HTML all included) in the post. It will link to a spreadsheet with 20 prompts per category. Players will be able to pick and choose from those prompts to fill their card. There is still a lot of overlap with the previous cards so please do not feel like you have to scrap what you've done so far. Old style BINGO cards will still be accepted for the challenge credit.
Welcome to this month's plot post!
Please take the time to look through this month's upcoming events to see if anything strikes you or your character's fancy. You can sign up by commenting on this post with the event's DATE and the CHARACTER #. If you have one or two characters, please only reserve 1 space. If you have three or more you may reserve 2 spaces. Reserved spaces are on a first come, first served basis. After everyone has been given a chance to comment we will open any available spaces to all players. Enjoy!
Just before 5:00 PM, the Office of the Minister issues a press released that Cornelius Fudge is retiring effective March 15th. (No Ides of March comments, please.) [Character 1] ends up being tracked down by a journalist on a deadline and is asked to give his/her opinion, despite having no inner working knowledge of Ministry inner workings. [James Potter] and [Character 3] immediately start an office pool with odds as to who will become the next Minister after almost twenty years under the Fudge regime.
WIZROQ announces a new contest on their afternoon radio show that they are offering a VIP experience at an upcoming Weird Sisters concert at the Warbeck Pavilion. [Hestia Jones], [Character 5], [Character 6], and [Character 7] all call in and successfully answer three trivia questions that allow them to go onto Round Two: live trivia contest done spelling bee style the next afternoon. The winner gets front row seats to the concert, a meet-and-greet opportunity before the show, and a bag full of merchandise and other goodies to enjoy.
Not looking where he/she was going, [Character 8] is at Quality Quidditch Supplies in Diagon Alley and accidentally sets off the charm that keeps the display of bludgers inert. Freed from their confines, the sports balls first make a mess of the store before escaping. [Eddie Carmichael] pushes [Astoria Greengrass] out of the way of a pair of errant bludgers, but not before getting injured. [Peregrine Troy] and [Character 12] is able to capture the bludgers and bespell them inert once more.
After an outbreak of of sniffles in the owleries, all post offices (Diagon Alley, Godric's Hollow, and Hogsmeade) employees decide give all the owls a dose of Pepper-Up Potion in their morning feed. Unfortunately, these enterprising employees have no idea how Pepper Up Potions effect the birds. Just in time for Valentine's Day as well. Anyone who sent something special to their sweetie is liable to not have it delivered on time. [Charlie Weasley] accidentally receives a very awkward package from a superior. [Celia Wood] receives a lovely gift, without a name attached. Curious. [Character 15] never receives that specially ordered item that they were waiting months for and heads are going to roll.
[Zacharias Smith], [Tracey Davis], and [Terry Boot], three completely unrelated people, receive a strange an owl from a solicitor, calling them to their office. Upon arriving, both characters are informed that a wizard they never met has left them both a small, but not insubstantial, amount of money. They are very confused. There is a catch, however, they have spend the next month living (sleeping every night) in the creepy Ram's Inn, where strange occurrences have been reported for decades. If both are unable to stay the entire month neither will be able to claim the money and a new trio will be selected.
Staffing and curriculum changes for the following school year, 2002-2003, are up for discussion. Once again the subject of exorcising Professor Binns is raised. [Character 19] attends the meeting to lobby to make [subject, up to player] an elective. Members of the Board of Governors are forced to sit through a presentation made by the Healers of St. Mungo's detailing why Sexual Education should be taught to the student population.
Just when you thought that Valentine's Day was behind you, Hogwarts students invade Hogsmeade for the day. A pair of mischief minded Hogwarts students fancies himself a regular Robin Hood and tips rubber arrows with temporary love potion. Like Amortentia, it causes the person affected to become enamored with another person, but the effects are not nearly as intense as the potion is never consumed. [Pansy Parkinson], [Character 21], and [Daphne Greengrass] fall victim. [Bríana Mullet], while not hit, seems to be the subject of several others' infatuation.
In an effort to get the scoop on who is in the best position to be named for as the next Minister a resourceful journalists decides rather than working her 'reputable' sources 'high up in the Ministry' hierarchy' she will get direct quotes from people she could name. Of course, she cannot just ask people in the know. Instead, she goes the sneaky route and adds veritaserum to the selection of soups on offer at the Ministry cafe. Characters who consume more soup will feature stronger effects for longer. [Open to all Characters]
Someone was not keeping as close an eye on the patients in the Janus Thickey Ward as they should have been doing. Maybe two someones. Either way, one of the patients wanders away from their bed and down to the pediatric ward where he encounters a group of children. Rather than becoming frightened, the children flock around him as they are encouraged to draw on the walls. [Draco Malfoy] is tasked with herding the children back to their beds. [Character 25] has to clean up the art project, but notices that some of these drawings seem to predicting the future and has to call the Ministry to investigate.

Below is a table with four different Media Critique Tests. In the spirit of Valentine's Day and with February being the month of love we're going to focus on narratives that have nothing to do with relationships or shipping.
BECHDEL TEST - Two characters must participate in a thread that has nothing to do with a romantic relationship that either they or another character (not involved in said conversation) are involved in.
VITO RUSSO TEST - Place an openly-LGBT character in a pivotal role that is nondependent on their sexual orientation or gender identity.
MAKO MORI TEST - Thread contains one female cgaracter, who has her own narrative arc that is not about supporting a male character.
ARS MARGINAL TEST - Thread contains at least one named character of color whose primary trait is not their race and does something important besides help a white person
Please link each thread/log (with at least two comments per player, including the starter) or narrative (at least 200 words) in the table and appropriately it with the !CHALLENGE tag. You may combine this with the BINGO card challenges. If you answer another person's open thread you may also count this towards your own table.
