Summary: The girls meet the guys for a jam session.
Toddler giggles filled the Martin household as Marla spun Sarah around, laughing along with the little girl while Emily finished getting ready. There really was no better sound in the world, Emily thought as she patted just a little powder over her face. She didn't want to get all prettied up, but just a little bit of makeup never hurt anyone, and it wasn't like it was out of the norm for her to wear just a little bit. That didn't mean she wasn't over thinking things, though. She was just nervous and excited about seeing Connor again, about doing so around their closest friends.
"Connor told ya who he is, right?" Marla's question broke into her thoughts as she poked in the doorway of the bathroom, Sarah perched on her hip and playing with her hair.
"Yes he did, and it didn't make one bit of difference," Emily answered, her smile turning just a bit softer, her feelings toward Connor showing much clearer than she would have liked.
"Well now, I told him it wouldn't. Told him I was gonna tell ya if he didn't man up and do it, and soon. So you wanna tell me all about that smile?" she asked, wiggling her brows. There was no doubt about just where Marla's mind was going, and Emily just laughed and shook her head.
She moved around Marla without answering, pausing to give Sarah a kiss on the cheek. "I'm gonna get my shoes on, then we can go." She should've known that it wouldn't be enough to stop Marla from poking her nose into it more.
"Oh, c'mon! Something happened! I knew he liked ya, he practically said as much at the coffee house!" Marla exclaimed with a proud little dance at apparently having called it. "So are y'all together now? C'mon, give a girl a nibble!"
Emily laughed, ducking down to pull her shoes on. "I like him very much, and... We're going on a date on Thursday," she caved. What could she say? She was weak. She was fully intending to keep those kisses to herself, though. They were just hers and Connor's. "All right, let's go on over there," she said, reaching out for Sarah, who shook her head and clung a little more to Marla. "Well, alrighty then!"
The short trip across the street took longer than it probably needed to, but Sarah had wiggled down, wanting to walk, and they'd had to laugh at the way the toddler tried to run while tugging on Marla's hand. They weren't too late, though, when Emily knocked on Connor's door.
