Emily was charmed by John's explanation of this bet, although it was more specifically by the 'besotted little grin' that had apparently given Connor away. "Who's Kayla?" she asked curiously. "I did guess that. Do ya? Why didn't you bring him along, then?" Sarah enjoyed being around other kids, and she didn't think it would've been a problem today. But then she realized it was possible that the boy was with his mother and maybe she and John weren't an item. She didn't actually really know anything about the members of the band, in part because she'd made it a point not to look anything up after finding out. She wanted to learn about them as she went along, to treat them as real people.
At the invitation, Emily moved over to the couch to sit down next to Connor, watching as Sarah looked around the room, a bit lost. It only took a minute for the toddler to decide to explore, and she went straight for the set of drums.
Marla was sure for a moment that he was going to turn the deal down, and really? An open-ended favor to be redeemed at some point wasn't really the best deal to make, but she was glad when he did finally take it. She shook the offered hand, smiling widely at him, then laughing at his qualifier. "I won't, I promise!" And she would give him veto power, though she wasn't going to tell him that now. "All right, so here's what I know... They're goin' on a date on Thursday. Aaaand, this is just my intuition, I'm pretty darn sure there's been a little mouth-to-mouth goin' on," she dished as she went to pick up some of the things he'd got out.
