"Ahh," Emily said at the explanation of who Kayla was. How sad it must be for her to have to recover from her own injuries while coping with the fact that her fiance had died. She didn't want them to dwell on the sad topic, though, and she knew that anything she might say just wouldn't be enough, so she simply didn't say anything further on it.
The explanation was simple enough, even if it did send a twinge of sadness and regret through her that Sarah did have a daddy. She still wished that the test had come back that Shawn was her father. Even though things wouldn't have worked out between them, she knew he would've been a good daddy to her baby girl. "I'm sure that'll be nice, to settle in 'round here and get the custody all situated and all," she replied with a smile. There were too many bitter custody battles that it was nice to hear about one that was, apparently, amenable.
"So you did," Emily agreed with a little laugh, watching as Sarah took the offered drum stick. The toddler watched John tap the drum, but rather than mimic the motion, she promptly stuck the stick in her mouth to chew on. "Oh! Sarah, no!" she said, making to get up. "I'm so sorry! Teething," she explained, flinching a bit.
Marla did hope that Colby would consider her scoop a fair trade once he learned the favor she had in mind, but even she knew that it really wasn't. But who knew? Maybe she would be able to charm him into it, anyway. She laughed at his sing-songing, following along as he went to the stairs. "You're not gonna let him live it down, are ya?" she asked with a laugh as they headed down to the basement.
