It's the nice ones you have to watch out for: When patient people lose it
This is cut from Mister Miracle, Volumn 2, #11(22 pages). Scott and Barda settle in the small town of Bailey, Connecticut, trying to have what they think is a "normal" life and so far, it hasn't been so successful. Trying to maintain a secret identity while being attacked by an arch-nemesis, drone clones and various other problems, has pushed scott to the limits of his patience.

Bruce and Dick and Batman and Robin

Posting this as a follow up to the first part, here (http://asylums.insanejournal.com/scans_daily/941798.html) to show the progression of Bruce and Dick's relationship. How it started, and how much it meant to each of them by the time Dick went away to college.

The Blue Beetle's Enemies, Part the Tri: The Calculator (a henchman's story) and Chronos V1
after going up against the arson-fueled vengeance of Firefist, dealing with the return of the Madmen and watching Doctor Alchemy destroy himself, Ted next found both himself and the Question tangling with the Muse, a gun-having crazypants with a plan to unite the city's warriors-esque gangs under his command to take on the current criminal syndicate in charge.

... however, as most of the good stuff from that's already been covered, I'll skip him. If you want a full account of how it all goes down, a quick google'll avail you.

But on to the next... villain, so to speak.  )

The Blue Beetle's Enemies, Part the Next: Doctor Alchemy and the Madmen!
(yeah, Doctor Alchemy's a Flash villain. Not all of his villains are original to the series, but they fight Beetle nonetheless.)

so, after the Incendiary Man's vanishing (complete with a "We found no body in the fire", leaving him open to a return, which he apparently pulls off as a kill-people-with-fire-for-hire guy at a time down the road), it's time for one of the several foreshadowings laid out over the past two issues to pay off.

Foreshadowings like this one, from Blue Beetle #2...  )

The Blue Beetle's Enemies, Part the First: Firefist, the Incendiary Man!
Ted fought more than the comic results of his own actions and the Madmen. Who knew, eh?

And he fought some rather interesting enemies too.

But heck, so did Dan Garrett...  )

Apparently Wein got the memo
McDuffie having gotten booted off JLA for telling it like it is, DC passed the baton to Robinson, but he was still too busy with CRY THAT THE WRITING'S SO BAD FOR JUSTICE to jump on right away, I guess, because they've got Len Wein doing a filler arc about the Royal Flush Gang.

Which I'm actually rather liking, for reasons which are probably fairly obvious under the cut.

It's Not About The Answers: Behind The Mask Of Vic Sage, pt 4

Intermission: Hangin' with Beetle (pt 2)
With special bonus: Vic's Cool Quota Runs A Surplus

Tonight we're looking at Blue Beetle v6 #'s 5-7, by Len Wein and Paris Cullins. There's a lot of crazy meta stuff surrounding this arc. It ends two months before Ted plays his part in the Legends cross-over, which lead to JLI, so he hasn't really fostered any relationships with DC natives yet, so they apparently decided to reinforce his friendship with a fellow Charlton immigrant first. Also, and really, really interestingly, Vic's guest spot in BB #'s 4-7 (#4, if you'll remember, we glanced at in our last post) were released concurrently with the first four issues of Watchmen. It's makes me curious as to whether this arc happened to further establish Vic and Ted's partnership in order to legitimatize the homage of Rorschach and Nite Owl. It's a lot to think about.

Mr Miracle - really as awesome as you all said
So, without you guys at s_d I never would have heard of Blue Beetle, or Booster Gold, or Mr Miracle, or Big Barda. I never would have been at my first ever comics' fair, looking through boxes. I wouldn't have looked at the section labelled Mr Miracle and I would have missed

HOLY SHIT, YOU GUYS! THE MOTHER LODE!

50p each! I was very restrained and only bought 8 issues.

See some of the awesome moments from issue 7 :) Many pictures )

It's Not About The Answers: Behind The Mask Of Vic Sage, pt 3

Intermission: Hangin' With Beetle (pt 1)
with special bonus: Vic Walks In Two Worlds

In 1981, after thirteen years of surviving on licensed comics, Charlton was falling apart. A new volume of Charlton Bullseye was launched to feature new talent and hopefully strike gold, and the first issue went to writer Benjamin Smith and artist Dan Reed, who decided the thing Charlton needed was something it already had.

It's about to get REALLY colourful as our villain meets his nemesis-to-be - Crazy Quilt Pt 2
Well, after Crazy Quilt had made such an impression on the Boy Commandos, it would be three years before he would appear again, and prove to be a threat to the one boy who can NEVER go commando...

From 1952's Star Spangled Comics 123 (Which was the first title to feature Robin's solo adventures)
