Meet Nekron

From TALES OF THE GREEN LANTERN CORPS(1981), a miniseries I liked a lot as a kid. I think Geoff Johns did too. Because there is little possibility, given the details so far, that BLACKEST NIGHT isn't this dude's doing.
These scans were taken from this, which you should read for a summary of the story and the writer's own suspicions and theories along these lines. In any event, I'll bet many haven't even heard of him, so here, meet a real sad bastard.

So, essentially, he's the afterlife's receptionist. I'd get annoyed after a while myself. But really, what else could he do? Pose for Iron Maiden covers?

Imprisonment. It makes you wonder where he was before, and who put him in this place. I'm thinking he's yet another problem the Guardians kicked down the road, thinking exiling it would solve it. The Guardians: out of sight, out of mind is a way of life for them.
And here is a very telling moment: he was defeated by the souls of dead Green Lanterns. Also, the blogger above mentions this:
"Nekron pulls out all the stops, summoning the dead loved ones of Corps members to slow them down."
HMM. What did DC just finally reprint a few months back?

Why does Nekron look like a freak in Justice League of America #122?

I'd have to see what you mean. Is that the same Nekron? Because I don't think this one appeared till this miniseries.

Nekron hadn't been created when JLA 122 came out in 1975, and Dr Light is the villain in that story ("The Great Identity Crisis").

Nekron first appeared in 1981 in this GLC story.

Wait...Dr. Light was in a story called Identity Crisis back in the Silver Age?

Yup, Dr Light uses Amnesium stolen from Superman to scramble the JLA's memoris of their own secret ID's; Green Arrow thinks he’s Ray Palmer; Green Lantern thinks he's Barry Allen, Batman is Oliver Queen, Atom is Hal Jordan, and Flash is Bruce Wayne. Sadly Wonder Woman was out that day or it could have been REAL fun! :)

It also ended with Light having his just-learned knowledge of the JLA's secret ID's being wiped by the Amneisum.

Opps, sorry, JLA 129.

It seems as if someone was inspired by this Nekron to create their own, better Nekron.

Or the Guardians were lying again, like with the color yellow.

Tales of the GL Corps "collected for the first time"? I remember reading this story ''in a paperback collection'' back before graphic novels were common! It was great, even for someone like me who wasn't really into GL.
