Jason in 'Tec Comics
I've saved a lot of random bits of Jason adventures in 'Tec Comics over the last couple of years and upon reviewing them, there are some interesting points and foreshadowing, so after #571 was put up, I thought I'd put these up as well. Some of them are on the crisis cusp (just before, just after) so be aware of that. Let's start with what Jason's cape was used most often for:

Batman: The Brave and the Bold - Legends of the Dark-Mite preview images!
www.worldsfinestonline.com has images and videoclips from "Legend of the Dark Mite" up. This is due to be broadcast May 29th, and has Pee-Wee Herman as the voice of Bat-Mite...

See all the images here. The images there are HUGE, wallpaper sized without any problem at all, and do include some very nice "oil-painting" style splashes of notable Batvillains...

Oh this is going to be FUN!

Not every Bat in Gotham wears one.
A long, long, long time ago, back when Retro was Noir instead of Nouveau, he asked me where my current default icon came from, and I said I would post that story, because it's really surreal and interesting and has some odd things to say about two of my favorite characters. But of course I never did post it, and then the Great Disaster came, and now I've switched over to this journal where I'm actually using the icon and other people have asked, and hey, right now it's even topical, so. From "No Man's Land: Secret Files and Origins," I give you:

Another golden oldie... some Andy Price Batverse sketch cards!
Andy Price is an artist whose style I've loved since I first saw this image;

NSFW (but not PURE porn) )

Andy has a genuine, if delightfully irreverent, love of the DC characters, in all their assorted styles and era's and can seemingly reproduce all of them.

Luckily he does a lot of work with sketchcards, for the DC Legacy series, and the new Batman Archives set from Rittenhouse and so there have been many nice examples of his work to be had, e-bay being a big help there!

So just bear in mind as you go through these, ALL of them are by the same artist....

Bat-centric fun below )
There are a LOT of images under here. Even if most of them are relatively small, dial up be warned.

As they have been released by DC for sale, I think it satisfies the need for a published piece of art, but I'll add one in if any mod thinks it's required.

Gotham City Sirens, Who They Are and How They Came To Be, Part 1: Poison Ivy
With the upcoming series starring Gotham's three most prominant bad girls, I figured I'd spotlight each of them in current DCU continuity, their origins, motivations, what they have in common and what sets them apart. We'll start with everyone's favorite psychotic eco-terrorist, Dr. Pamela Isley, aka Poison Ivy.

Poison Ivy was introduced during the Silver Age, and was typical of the gimmick villains of the time. Her original origin was she was a botanist who assisted Marc LeGrande in stealing ancient Egyptian poisonous herbs. He attempted to kill her with them, but she survived and discovered she was immune to all poisons and diseases. She was a femme fatale with a plant theme.

After Crisis of Infinite Earths, many characters and series had their continuity rebooted or revamped. In Ivy's case, the revamping for the new era was done by a then up and coming writer named Neil Gaiman.

Needless to say, the result was a more complex, not to mention much darker, Poison Ivy.

Here's some various scans of Two-Face being randomly messed up in the head. Rather literally.

Batman Family "Dollar comic" back covers
IJ account created, check. Joined S_D 2.0, check. Userpic, can't find the damn thing, heck with it I'll get one later. Here we go...

The relentless stagflation of the 70's was not kind to comics. 50 cents for a 100 page super-spectacular became 60 cents, then became 60 cents for a 64 page giant, and finally 60 cents for a 48 page "giant." (back then, comic companies were actually reluctant to raise cover prices, you see). Then came the "Dollar Comic," at 80 pages for a dollar, with all-new content. But 80 pages was just too much paper to be affordable, so after only a few months of 80 page dollar comics, the page count was cut back to 64 pages.

But again, this was an era when comic publishers felt a responsibility to deliver value for your dollar, so DC eliminated all advertising from the 64 page dollar comics. 64 pages with no ads was nearly the same number of story pages as 80 pages with ads, so they could tell readers that nothing had changed except a lower printing bill for DC. And it gave the artists the opportunity to create pinups for the back cover.Read more... )
