When Wondy was Awesome, part 6 (To Shatter an Empire)
So, after Perez's tenure wrapped with the War of the Gods crossover event, the title was given to one William Messner-Loebs, aka WML for brevity's sake (she said, as though she were ever anything remotely approaching succinct). And WML's run on Wonder Woman was... let's just say a departure. It was wildly popular sales-wise, but I have a lot of problems with it personally. He had no real respect for anything that Perez had done; he discarded her entire supporting cast as soon as possible, did a complete, arbitrary retcon of the Amazons' history and Diana's parentage (which thankfully was ignored by subsequent writers), buried Themyscira in an inaccessible pocket dimension for three years (for most of which time the readers were led to believe it had been destroyed, and in fact the whole "it's not really gone" was probably a panicked retcon), and mangled Polly so badly when she finally did show up that the letter columns spent months convinced she was Circe in disguise. We're talking "War Crimes" levels of butchery, here, or worse, and an unfortunate foundation for all the crap that's come her way since. But let's not speak of that, as to this day it still fills me with rage.
And Diana herself? He made her a klingon.
I mock, but this is still one of my favorite panels of all time.

Next time: See Diana deal with rent, taxes and deadbeat dads, and meet the other Donna in her life. It's more interesting than it sounds, I promise.

More Madame Xanadu ...
Ok FYI my lead to yesterday's post was meant to indicate the way the book was sold to 14 year-old boys not reality. The story are all the same tho in this book. This is issue 2. Some scientist open the gate to hell, the demons enter a woman and next off its legs up and taking on all comers...
However,for those who feel cheated I have included a page from Beta Sexus,IMO the best Lesbian sci'fi comic ever ! NWPS

When Dr. Psycho was... well, Psycho
Dr. Psycho was introduced in the Golden Age, and quickly became one of Wonder Woman's main foes. When George Perez revamped WW following Crisis of Infinite Earths, it was natural that he'd bring back, and revamp, Dr. Psycho, as he'd done with the Cheetah, Ares, the Silver Swan, and Circe.
Perez didn't rush into it, though. Dr. Psycho was re-introduced towards the end of Perez's run. But, as this was, really, a five year epic story, Dr. Psycho entered the stage when it was time for him to play his role.
And, that role would be nightmarish. Literally. This would establish him as one of the most twisted and evil of DC's villains. But, what's truly important is how Diana responds, how she deals with this threat. It's often said that heroes are, in part, defined by their villains. The villain represents what the hero must overcome in their struggles, what makes them heroes. Also, Diana, as she often does during Perez's run, demonstrates that she has other ways of dealing with evil than simply beating it up.

A couple of days back, mysteryfan linked to DC's five-page preview of Batman Confidential here. Go on, check it out if you haven't already. No hurry.
So I picked up my copy of the book this afternoon and settled down, skimming the first five pages because, you know, I'd read them already.
( Let me say, page six justifies the book's cover price. Spoiler beneath. )
Please give DC your $2.99. I want this creative team to be brought back to make more awesome.

Rupert, the Golliwog and today's mystery photo
A genuine icon, Rupert Bear has been running in British papers since 1920. I distinctly remember reading a collection of the strips as a youngster and loving the old-time flavor, with the captions outside the pictures (rather than as word balloons). The Golliwog is a bit controversial, but the interesting Wikipedia entry shows Golliwog dolls still on sale and the image still being used on product labels. As a kid, I sometimes came across the word in reading -- someone like T.H. White would write a phrase such as "he was so alarmed his hair stuck up like a golliwog's" -- but I didn't know what they really looked like until the internet flooded my head with information. This Rupert strip is from 1967, and shows the trouble caused when playing pieces from children's games can't get along.
And today's guest is excessively famous among comics fans. From 1978, just before his third marriage and a few years before his sudden death, this isn't the most flattering photo.. but his art remains as gorgeous and impressive as when it first saw print.

Super Steph Series Pt 1- Detective Comics 647-649
Hey al! It's the return of the Super Steph Upload Series. When I first joined s_d, after inundating with (very poor) TTG scans, I inundated it with Steph scans. Those were good times, there was lots of Steph discussion, and I even got a few people to check out stuff with her in it and like her! (Or so I was told!)
Anyway, a total of two people responded yes to my question of if I should repost it, but I'll give it a shot anyway. This time, it will all be in chronilogical order, and I'll include some scans from other stuff besides Robin, to get the site's archive goin' good.
