Spoilers: Superman/Batman #56

(Random Superman/Batman moment.)

Here's the DCU link, with issue info, but I can't get the preview to load from there. But the preview's up here here, at Comixology.

OMG! Batman reflects on Dick's character and broken jaw, and Batman gets one-punched! By WW!

I am way more excited about this and the Batman Confidential/Riddler issue than Battle for the Cowl. I don't know what to think about that.

The laws of physics don't apply to batman, even without superman powers. ;)

Batman has Superman's powers in this so I don't think it counts.

Spoiler! *He's totally wearing a spacesuit at the end after he loses the powers and says that it's the way he's meant to be breathing in space. A send-up maybe?*

#56 is out in the US today. Is #54 sold out at your LCS?

I love this cracky, cracky story arc.

Well, when I decided the I needed Superman/Batman in my life, I went to my LCS down the street and got 51, 52, 53 and 55. 54 I guess was either sold out, or like Madman Atomic Comics 12, just never made it to that one. I'll try again when I pick up 56, otherwise I'll have to check one of the other stores (neither of which are as good as the one down the street).

Well, I hope you find it. I am currently annoyed with 56. Not the dénouement I had hoped for. Not terrible, but still.

The store downtown usually has the recent back issues the other one doesn't. Found it there. It's funny because they're both owned by the same guy!
And the one downtown is hiring! I've been looking for a second job, too!

What were you hoping for, out of curiosity? It wasn't much different than I expected, though maybe a little anticlimactic (maybe the wrong word, i guess it's unfair to expect the denouement to be climactic)?
I dunno, I pretty much read Superman/Batman as Silver Age crack filtered through modern storytelling sensibilities. It's just as fun, but in a different way.

I had hoped to see some of the repercussions of Batman's behavior (beating the hell out of two people who are really close to him) with his--well, family--Dick and Selina--from the last issue.

Instead we got Batman's parents.

Heh:) I just looked ahead at the synops, and by issue 59 we'll have an out-of-control Superman who needs the Dark Knight to save him.

Hey, sounds like good luck at the store in a couple of ways!

I haven't yet. Since I've been back in school, I've had my LCS puts aside the comics I want, and then I buy a month's worth of comics at a time. So I'm going to have to either add it to my list, or remember to look for it next time I'm there.

Also, at least in Hawkgirl's case...I don't think a simple gas mask will cover it. You're in SPACE.

Whenever I get sad I get out my copy of Infinite Holiday Special and look at the last page. Because Superman punching Batman with both dressed as Santa with the caption "Happy Holidays" represents all that is right in the world to me.

I know that it's a "Superman/Batman" comic but I thought this issue was kind of a cop out. I don't want Batman being like, "oh shit, I hurt Dick and Selina." I want him to APOLOGIZE to them -- and I want to see it. Way more satisfying than what happened. Totally disappointing because I liked issue #55

Sadly, I just got back from the LCS and I agree. I LOVED 55, was very disappointed in this. 'My parents are dead' version million and seven B. How many times have we explored that? Versus how many times has Batman broken Dick's jaw and knocked Selina out? Like you say, it IS Superman/Batman, but the Dick and Selina stuff happened last issue in Superman/Batman, and it would have been really, really interesting to see the repercussions.

SPOILERS!!!

I was disappointed, too! I wanted to see Bruce at Dick's bedside APOLOGIZING (and at Selina's, too). I wanted Clark to scream at him that he was acting just as Bruce feared that Clark would with powers, though that Mother Earth-style serenity from Clark worked, too.

Though at the end I wanted Bruce NOT to wish for super-powers back but to be VERY afraid of what having them caused him to do, because even without magic he'd wind up an obsessed nutcase.

Oh, well, that's what fanfic's for! ;)

P.S. Diana rocks! :)

Bruce will never learn, is kind of the way I see it. He's regressed, even, since a couple of writers got hold (a hold?) of him. Maybe this 'dying' thing will make him wiser, but I even doubt that.

Maybe he keeps a little three by five cards in his utility belt full of memos to himself. My husband does. Not, you know in a utility belt, but I mean that's why I have a cute but tiny notebook in my purse. Same thing. Come on, Batman. Keep track of your 'fantastical experience' lessons. I'd think he would. WGD and all.

Hang on. Forget I said that. Until I finish the story of what Batman's little purse utility belt notebook reminds him.

Interesting how much batman kicking himself for not remembering to charge up in sunlight and being in the the dark for so long cause him to being weak enough to be affect by nightwing punches last issue.

The first scan superman is such a drama queen but lucky his boyfriend partner batman there to help.

I KNOW, right? Weird. Lot's of self-kicking. They really did for once pick the best pages from the comic for preview. Batman's other partner (Dick) had to remind him about the sun (Okay, Batman, wise up already), and that's apparently enough for him to note it in comic story form.

Doesn't need to note the dealing with beating the hell out of Dick or Selina in comic form. Weird.

Batman/Superman forever. Why does Superman get to always be first, I'd like to know.
