Pax Letale: a modern myth game

old gods made new
PAX LETALE:
GODS REAWAKENED

Something is stirring in Newport Beach, California.

One of the most affluent and exclusive areas in Orange County, Newport Beach is a safe, comfortable space where the real world has a tendency not to to intrude on the pleasures of its citizens. It's a nice, normal, friendly, monochromatic city in a county that's known for the same. In fact, many people say that the majority of Orange County seems like a construct designed to keep the troubles of real life out, creating a plasticine paradise that nothing dark or dirty can penetrate.

The residents of Pax Letale are slowing coming to know better.

Pax Letale is an exclusive luxury apartment building right on the beach, with easy access to the 405 and all the charm that Newport Beach has to offer. Its residents comprise a surprisingly eclectic demographic for Orange County and Newport in particular, with people from all walks of life being drawn to this building for reasons they can't quite identify.

The common thread that binds them, of course, is that they are each of them inhabited by a sleeping god.

As they spend more time at Pax, their gods are awakening, though -- and strange things are happening. Natural (and supernatural) mishaps and disasters, disappearing tenants, and quite recently, the concierge was brutally murdered.

There are whispers among some that the strange island in the bay, visible from the building, has something to do with all of this. Still others are compelled by the island; if it didn't sound crazy, they'd say it was calling to them.

They aren't crazy.

Holds and applications are being accepted for all available pantheons.

College is generally considered the place where you choose your path in life. The experiences gained, the memories made, and the challenges overcome are what define a person, for better or worse. A degree from Davis University guarantees your pick of jobs in your field upon graduation, and with all of the activities and organizations on campus, each student is likely to have an impressive CV by the end of their four, five, or six year program.

Entrance into Davis University is peculiar to say the least. Every student is accepted for a reason, though that reason might not be readily obvious. Each student that passes through the university doors changes, for good or for bad. There is unlimited potential in not only the students, but also the professors. DU is a multi-national, multi-lingual cultural hub brimming with activity.

Students of Davis University are welcome to play a variety of sports, participate in various clubs, or become members of the prevalent Greek system. Not to mention the litany of degrees and programs offered to students. A handful of incredibly capable young men and women undertake an intense six year program resulting in a Doctorate, or completing three major programs in five years. Anything is possible at Davis University, and the staff is dedicated to learning, both in and out of the classroom.

Pax Letale: a modern myth game

PAX LETALE: GODS REBORN

In Southern California, there recently opened a new luxury apartment building. Impeccably designed, impossibly convenient, ideally located, Pax Letale is the sort of residential Shangri La where Southern Californians spend all manner of favors and years trying to secure a spot. But Pax doesn't have a waiting list, nor can a place there be bought or sold. The people who find their way to Pax Letale belong there.

Every tenant of Pax is a reincarnated deity whose worshipers are by and large long dead. Once very real, these gods began to fade as science and reason dispelled the probability of their existence. Reborn as mortals, their essences remain, waiting to be awakened. Somehow, sometimes one by one, sometimes in groups or pairs, these creatures of destiny have discovered Pax, and have not been able to resist its pull.

For at Pax Letale, the awakening has begun. As these gods rediscover themselves and each other, the seemingly invisible but ubiquitous management tracks each of them quite closely, and the very building itself seems to have an agenda of its own. And as the gods made humans in their own image - or humans made them in theirs - so will the the behavior of the people of Pax turn as dark as their myths. Blood, strife, sex, petty plots, torture - even murder will wind their ways into Pax Letale.

A lovely place. A peculiar place. A dangerous place.

Available Tenants:

Enki is the Babylonian god of water, crafts, intelligence and creation. Twin of and best friend of Ereshkigal, goddess of the Underworld, he is often seen as a positive foil to his brother Enlil, utilizing his magic and cunning for the good of others; he brings aid to deities and humans alike, serving as a rare masculine nuturer in a chaotic and often oppressively patriarchal pantheon. He will likely have connections to Tiamat, Ereshkigal, and other Sumero-Babylonian deities.

Brighid is the Celtic goddess of the forge, inspiration, compassion and creativity, and a patron goddess of artists, craftsmen, and other creative types. In her mortal life, she may have connections to her parents, her siblings, or any of the Celtic pantheon.

Masauwu is a Hopi deity sometimes called the Skeleton Man, Keeper of Fire, Spirit of Death, and the Master of the Fourth (present) World. He is depicted as a dark-skinned man wearing a mask; sometimes the creature beneath this mask is described as handsome, sometimes as a disfigured monster. Connections to Native American deities and gods and goddesses of death or enlightenment are likely.

ADDITIONAL AVAILABLE TENANTS

Don't see a tenant that interests you? Other deities and pantheons are welcome - pick one of the active pantheons in the game, or talk to a mod if there's one you don't see, and make your modern god as you see him/her/it.

Holds and applications are being accepted for all available pantheons.

BOOKS = KNOWLEDGE = POWER = (MASS x DISTANCE) ÷ TIME

Welcome to L-Space. That is to say Library-Space. The above principle illustrates the theory of this L-Space: large quantities of books tend to warp time, space, and reality. Pockets of L-Space usually manifest themselves in those improbable little bookstores which are far bigger on the inside than their appearances on the outside say they should be. L-Space links every library and every book, and ever world contained therein. It is highly unstable.

Usually, the tenders of L-Space can keep on top of things. Up until now, they've managed to keep it from tearing the very fabric of reality, or making the universe as we know it implode, but things have recently gotten a little... strained. L-Space has started bending in on itself and drawing in people from different realities. But not to worry! There are others about to keep you company, and a few librarians who are tinkering with the fabric of this new little world to try and make things more comfortable for you. So relax and try to enjoy your stay. Chances are, you'll be here for a while.

maskerade -- now open!

"The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown."

It's 2011 in the New New York City- parallel in every way to its namesake, save for the fact that fictional characters are as alive as any of us and roam the streets undetected. Some of these Fictionals have taken it upon themselves to fight back against the crime and corruption that comes hand in hand with New York; still others see no reason to fight the inevitable; the less moral go as far as to join in the fray. Who will you be and what will you stand for?

Maskerade is a panfandom essences game looking for players who like plot without player-drama. We opened on May 12th and we’d love if you joined us!

OUR MOST WANTED: Indiana Jones seeks Marion Ravenwood; Magneto seeks Mystique; Rorschach and Ozymandias seek Dan Dreiberg or any of the rest of the Watchmen; Eric Northman seeks Pam and Bill; Gwen Cooper seeks Jack Harkness and the rest of her team.
Welcome to the Maskerade.
