Who: Kai and OPEN (multiples okay, she's probably gonna be loud)
When: Morning, around 8:30AM
Where: Her room/second floor lounge/heading out through the halls until she FINDS A PERSON
There had been music in her dreams. She was in a hallway of a noisy club, music blaring loudly somewhere out there, muffled through the walls. She'd kept looking for the end of the hall, her pace increasing with every few steps, but the music never became any clearer. When she woke, the song was still playing in her head. How did that go? she wondered. It was going to be stuck in her head all day. For a long time she lay in bed, running through lyrics in her mind and constantly being stuck at the same place. Eyes still closed, she rolled onto her stomach in bed, face pressed into her arm, humming the song as she tried so hard to remember how it went.
When she was just a girl she expected the world, but it flew away from her reach and the bullets catch in her teeth, life goes on, it gets so heavy... it gets so heavy... it gets so heavy... god dammit.
Over and over again she went through the song, unable to let go. She was resolute in her task, she would not get out of bed or move from this spot until she remembered how it went. But as the minutes ticked on and she sang the first half of that single verse over and over again, her nerves started to fray. She knew this. It was easy. It didn't matter, it was just a stupid song. But it would bother her if she couldn't remember. Her entire day would be ruined. She had to get it right.
Finally Kai decided she'd just have to get on the computer and submit a request. They gave her whatever material things she asked for. The system had been once much abused, but was now boring. They could give her some stupid Coldplay lyrics if it meant she'd be able to get out of bed and function. Throwing back the covers, Kai sat up and had half-turned out of bed before all the air was driven from her lungs.
She stayed that way a while, frozen in place, one knee still raised with her foot above the floor. Her eyes were wide as she stared out the window, and the flurries of snow she saw beyond. This was her old room. This was the room in Mount Zenith.
Kai was almost too afraid to move. Maybe she was still dreaming. Maybe if she moved too quickly she'd ruin it at all. In the old cartoons a character would have little thought-bubble dreams, and another character would come along and just pop it. Maybe if she moved hers would pop. And she so desperately wanted this to be real.
When she moved, she did so slowly. Every step on tip-toes, every breath hushed. She made her way slowly to her door, fully expecting this to be a trick. She'd open it onto an empty hallway, and it would take her back to the tower. I'm sorry, Mario, but our princess is in another castle! Her hand shook as it closed around the doorknob, clenching before it finally turned.
Kai stood there a while, wide eyes looking dumbly around the hall. This could still be a trick. A very elaborate joke. Part of her just wanted to stand still forever and savor this. Even if it was a joke, let her stay in this moment where she believed she was free, and let it last forever. She didn't want to go back. She could just stay here in this dream until they popped her bubble.
She remembered the song now. "The wheel breaks the butterfly," she sang, voice a soft whisper as she finally walked out into the lounge. She didn't have a destination in mind. She'd walk until she found a person, or ended up back in the tower. In the mean time, she sang to keep her courage up. "Every tear a waterfall. In the night, the stormy night she'll close her eyes, In the night, the stormy night away she'd fly, and dream of para-para-paradise..."
