Who: Bruce and Helena
What: A meeting of two scientific minds, one currently broken. Sooo anything can happen really.
When: Friday afternoon
Where: Bruce's warehouse
Warnings: Possible language, sciencey babble. Everything else TBA?

The past couple weeks had been incredibly difficult for Helena. First there had been Moriarty wanting to kill her and threatening Emily. Then he had strapped a bomb to Myka, which had finally made the Victorian woman snap and fall over the edge. It was a miracle that she hadn't killed anyone. Though really, she didn't have the chance to. There had been a sniper poised to kill her, which Myka had seen just in time. The other agent had thrown herself at Helena, knocking her down and saving her life. Instead of the bullet hitting her in an area that would have resulted in her death, it had hit her in the shoulder. Then just mere days after that, she'd left to go to Paris to be there for the anniversary of Christina's death. And oh how that had been difficult. To say the least, Helena was emotionally raw and spiritually broken and defeated. This was the bottom of the pit she had been falling into. It really was all she could do to keep herself from closing off her emotions. It was too painful, but she had to feel it because if she didn't, she would walk the path that not only led to her complete self-destruction, but also the probability of condemning yet another world to feel her fury.

And when she had gotten word of that shooting that had happened in Colorado, Helena's mood had deteriorated. She was anxious which was to be expected when she had been shot just over a week earlier. Helena had never liked guns, had only even used them if forced to. Her experience with the sniper had only reinforced that dislike of the things. This was why she relied so much on her Tesla. It was an alternative to killing, and really, it was an excellent way to disable someone without hurting them. As long as the Tesla was on it's low settings. The higher ones could incinerate, but that was besides the point.

After having consumed a couple glasses of brandy earlier, and after eating lunch, Helena made her way to Bruce's warehouse, as they'd agreed to meet. And she was curious about this new technology of his. Anything that she could focus on that wasn't herself or her emotions she would take right now. It might just be the very wrong thing to do, but Helena really needed something to take her mind off things for a little bit. Science was a good way for that. At least she was also getting out of the house? She'd almost locked herself in her work room, but figured Myka would break down the door on her, so she opted for going to Bruce's for a little bit. And perhaps she'd come back in a better mood because currently, she probably would sooner kenpo someone's ass than smile or joke. This is why she needed the science intervention.

Arriving at Bruce's, she knocked on the door. And as she was on edge because of the shootings, Helena had activated the protective barrier Bruce had made for her. She wasn't taking chances right now. Not after everything she'd been through.

Bruce had been waiting for her, and as she had gotten closer, he had tracked he progress. His warehouse was quickly becoming more and more advanced as he genius for creating scientific advances while working with piecemeal equipment was rapidly showing it's head.

He was working in the lab when she arrived, and he spoke into the microphone when he saw her. "Come on in, oh lady of the sciences. The lab awaits!" And the door opened for her, closing after her, with a string of lights along the floor to show her the way. The path wended past an obstacle course, and a fighting mat area, a shooting range, and living quarters, until it led to the core of the warehouse, a three level lab. When the door hissed open to admit her, Bruce was there, still in alter!face and grinning a bit to see her. Quite a few things were whirring, beeping, and hissing, or bubbling.

"Greetings, oh fellow wanderer of science's myriad melancholy pathways. Tis a day for rejoicing when such a distinguished mind does come within these demesnes, and brings her intellect to assuage the grief of the sciences for her absence."

All right, so the modern world still held many things she wasn't used to, so when she heard Bruce's voice, she jumped slightly, not having expected that. But no matter, she quickly shook it off and entered when the door opened for her. Though the string of lights was interesting. She tilted her head a bit, momentarily transfixed by the shade of green. But she followed them, winding through the building. Helena gave curious glances at the various workout areas she passed.

When the door to the lab opened, she stepped inside, still being taken aback at seeing Bruce's altered face. Though now seeing him in person was even stranger to her, given she hadn't yet seen this altered version of himself in the flesh. It was for the best right now. The less she was reminded of Christina's father for the moment, the better. And the noise filling the lab helped to center her. She enjoyed those background noises. In a way, they also helped ease a little of her anxiety. And now that she was inside the building, she deactivated the protective barrier, no longer needing it.

"Any day with the potential for learning is a good day indeed. I am humbled to be able to lend my intellect to the matters at hand, hoping that for this period of time, my own grief and pain may subside to the greater thirst for knowledge." She did not greet him with a smile, and her eyes were especially deep and troubled currently, but she was hoping being able to flex her intellect would help on that matter a bit.

He moved toward her, extending his hand, and smiling sadly. "Welcome to my humble abode. I hope you will enjoy your stay." He nodded to her, eyes warm as he waved around.

"What is mine, is yours, madame. In this place, you are welcome, anytime." Turning back to her, he extended a key ring with several keys and a remote control on it, and nodded. "I thought since you stayed here shortly, and there are few people I trust more, this was appropriate."

he had thought about it a long time. There was little he could do, really, for her, but he could do this. This place could be a refuge for her when she needed one.

Helena took his hand, shaking it, a bit of a smile turning the corner of her mouth. "Thank you. I am certain I will enjoy it." The truth of the matter was that she was all ready enjoying it. Being in a lab like this always did wonders for making her feel alive again.

"Your generosity is most welcome and appreciated. I will most certainly keep that in mind." When Bruce presented her with a key ring, she blinked, taken aback by the offer. She still did not comprehend why he trusted her as much to give her keys to the building, but it came out of the fact she didn't know how to believe in herself. She could not see what he saw in her, what everyone else around her saw. But still, she took the key ring with a bit of a wider smile.

"Thank you, Bruce. I do appreciate this. I will take care of these." Helena slid the key ring into the pocket of her pants so she wouldn't lose track of it while she was here.

"I know you will." He smiled and then he grinned wider. "Come! I know just the thing to start introducing you to!" He led the way to one table where schematics and components were spread out across it. "This is a revamped version of the teleportation generator. I'm trying to work out the kinks that made the last one stop working after one run. I thought you might have some insight, if you are willing to look into it."

he was eager for her opinion, really. She was smart, wise, and he liked he way of thought. He bent over the table, showing her the components and explaining how it worked. He figured it was more polite than asking her to read the schematics...

At the prospect of being introduced to some new gadget, Helena followed Bruce eagerly. She was always ready to invest her mind in something, especially at a time like this. She truly needed to grab onto things she could use to help pull herself up. Helena wasn't the type to wait for others to hold out a hand and help her up. She would start the process herself. Along the way, she just needed to remind herself to let others in to help her because this was not a feat she could complete on her own.

Listening to his explanation of what the schematics were for, she nodded in understanding. Her eyes scanned across the various parts laid out on the table as he explained how it worked. Taking note of each component, Helena glanced over the schematics, reading what was there, then looking to the parts again. Teleportation was not a concept she'd worked on before, but she would draw from things she knew. Perhaps they would ignite some form of new idea for Bruce to pursue.

"Teleportation is not exactly a concept I have dabbled in. However, the concept is very close to the concept of time travel, is it not? Though instead of moving someone through time, you are moving someone through space." Biting her bottom lip a bit in concentration, she looked over everything again. "What about taking that approach? Using something close to a flux capacitor, only gearing it towards traveling through space and not time?" Really, Helena had no clue if such a thing would actually work, she was just putting out the first idea that came into her mind.

He paused and nodded. "That could work... I wonder if we flipped the components to realign with the flux capacitor device if we could create the same sort of transmittable field to localize on the device held by the recipient and transpose them across space avoiding the energy coefficient transfer error..."

His eyes lit at her ideas and he nodded. "Can you rebuild a flux capacitor to hold and access that kind of energy? If I can see if, and work with it, I should be able to channel the energy where needed..."

Looking at Bruce, she nodded. "Yes, I can build a flux capicator. It would not be difficult to adjust it to operate within space. Just adjusting the necessary equations and power output. I would just need the necessary components." All ready she was thinking of the adjustments that would be needed to build a new flux capacitor to those parameters. She hadn't built a flux capacitor in over one hundred years, but she still remembered how to build one.

It was difficult to keep her mind from drifting to the original flux capacitor she'd built for her time machine. That just got into a topic she knew she couldn't handle thinking about right now. She kept actively reminding herself that this was travel through space, not time. Two entirely different topics. Inter-related, yes, but still different. As long as she could keep that distinction in mind, she would be able to get through this.

"Though if you have the notes and equations you made for the last teleportation device you built, that would be greatly helpful to me. Moving someone through space is different than moving someone through time." And her time machine only had the capability to send someone's consciousness backwards through time to inhabit another's body for a limited amount of time. She took a silent breath, yet again reminding her this was space travel. It might be easier once she started working with her hands so she could focus herself on what was right in front of her.

"I do have them. With every step and stage, I use them to control and contemplate what I am doing!" He smirked at her, then led her to the next area.

"This little thing I am working on is a different matter, something more personal. This is a biogeneic alteration device. This is like... the DNA re-sequencer I am activated in now, which changes my DNA expression into this lovely face. But this would allow even odder combinations, including ones that should be impossible... such as sexual fix alteration, and even species change. A shapeshifter device, I suppose. It uses materialization and directional alteration technology to realign the molecular elements of the human body into a new and less clustered approach, then realign them into a new and more clustered integration in a new pattern."

Bruce was talking with passion as he turned to her, grinning, eyes bright. "I ran into a few problems getting the focuser beam and alteration array to align on both the current and new patterns without messing one of them up and thus making the process either a one way trip, or a nightmare of transmogrified proportions. Thank the sciences for computer modeling. I can run these interpolations and extrapolations without endangering anyone."

"Then I can most certainly build one for you." Helena was fairly certain her own notes from when she'd worked on her time machine were within her house, but she had not come across them yet. Nor had she really looked for them, but perhaps she would need to do so now to cross-reference things on the flux capacitor.

Moving with Bruce to the next area, she looked over what he had resting there. Tilting her head to the side, she nodded a bit as she took in his explanation. "A device that can not only change your appearance at the molecular level, but also change your gender and species? That is...actually rather brilliant. I imagine it would have the same sort of parameters that the DNA re-sequencer you are currently using in regards to leaving you within that new configuration for a fixed amount of time? Or would you change it so you would need to use it again to return yourself back to normal?" The passion that Bruce was speaking with was inspiring, and she liked hearing that tone. She looked at him, tossing some hair out of her face and smiled gently.

"It sounds as though the error could be in the equations behind the device if the focuser beam and alteration array are not aligning as they should. Or that would be my first guess, anyway, as to where the problem with it would lie. Though, dare I ask what subject you used to find out the possible unwanted outcomes from it?" She was a little frightened to see, but her scientific mind was curious. Thus the question was asked.

Bruce smiled at her, and reached out, finding her hand without looking and squeezing it. "Thank you. Your actions in this will assure that I at least have a chance of making this work." He smiled at her, eyes dancing, his passion rising.

"It starts with the same baseline assumptions, then turns them on their head, using a simplistic algorhythmical dynamic subroutine to reroute the DNA actions to a new line of code within the greater physicality, allowing for realignment of an entire form without harm or side effects."

He nodded to her. "A secondary action would be needed to return one to original form, and unless the power wavelengths and stabilization were made apt and perfect the energy to matter dysfunction could lead to the creation of a subatomic dyssemtry of format, and... dissolution."

He shook his head. "The whole thing is hooked up to my entire computer array. The computing models took several weeks to write out, but... yes, holographic models, much like when I called you..." His skin flushed, remembering.

he moved over to a computer control in front of a large round table, and called up a holographic interface which he then manipulated, showing her the list of records. 300 trials so far, both with current standards and extrapolated finished product."

Feeling him taking her hand, she looked at him, a gentle smile crossing her face at seeing the way his eyes were dancing. "You are welcome. I am glad that I can be of some assistance." She squeezed his hand back.

Listening to further explanation, Helena took in all that he said, making some mental notes along the way. "Being able to accomplish such a thing without harm or side effects truly boggles the mind." She then turned her attention back to Bruce, curiosity getting the best of her in the moment. "This transformation you have done to yourself, was it painless? Is it an instantaneous transformation or one that takes place over a span of time?"

Nodding at needing the secondary action to return to the original form, it made more sense. Not having to rely on keeping track of the amount of time that had elapsed would be an advantage. Especially if one's life depended on keeping the new form in tact. She didn't make a vocal response to that, merely just let her nod and the ponderous look on her face speak for themselves.

When he mentioned the holographic model, she couldn't help but smirk a bit, giving him a once over momentarily. "Ah yes, I was wondering how you achieved that," she mused. She followed him to the computer and looked over the list of records he'd pulled up. Not for the first time, she was in awe of what computers could do. "Truly, these computers are miraculous machines," she mumbled awe-struck before shaking her head slightly and reading over the list. "Out of the 300 trials, how many were successful?"

"It is painless, though it feel rather disturbing, and it takes between 2 and 3 minutes to accomplish." He shivered. "It feels a little like, well, pressure and shifting along the skin, under the skin, and... well,. everywhere. I would not advise it for anyone with issues with insects."

Bruce shivered, then shook his head. He nodded to the trial counter. He tapped a button and one blue number popped up. "17." He smiled faintly. "That is why I need your help. I am afraid I cannot do it alone." He looked to her. "IO need someone with a formidable intellect and with the creativity to look outside the box. You come from a different time, and I hope your perspicuity will help this. It is... " He blushed then. "I also, really, have to admit... I am hoping this will bring you here often, so I might work with you... more." He turned to her and his eyes danced in an entirely different way.

"When given a choice of the elements one surrounds oneself with, one must choose carefully, and analyze each element with absolute care, to ensure every spare space of them has been examined, stroked, and probed, and thus, weighed. Only then with a synergy of application and endeavor can we strive to make sure the environment around us is as exact for the experimentality we wish as possible. To whit! I have no choice but to select you, for no other stimulates the processors of each interface within me as you do. No other is capable of bringing such absolute fundamental clarity to my mind and no other has given me the gifts of solutional absolution that you have."

As Bruce described the transformation sensations, Helena shivered lightly. That did sound like it would be a bit disconcerting and certainly not for one that didn't like insects. The comparison gave her a good sense of what the transformation felt like. "Does it change the internal structures of the body as well, such as bone and organs? Or is it a merely skin deep transformation?"

Only 17 successful trials. It was better than zero, and showed evidence Bruce was on the right track with the device. After all, if it wasn't going in the right direction, there would be no successful trials. Looking at Bruce, she was flattered by his compliment. It had been many many years since she'd heard someone say as much to her. And really, it only served to stroke her all ready massive ego in that department. "I assure you that I will do all that I can to assist in this endeavor and see it through to a successful outcome." At the last part, she smiled, a bit of life coming to her eyes. "If I did not know better, I'd think that was a proposition, Bruce." She lifted both brows quizzically, but reached out and gently set her hand on his arm. "But believe me, I would like nothing more than to work with a fellow genius. There is doubt in my mind that together we can achieve whatever we put our minds to."

Listening, she smiled again. "I am honored that I am able to hold such a position for you, to help alight your mind in such a way. And yours is one that gives me a focus I have not known in a very long time. Exploring the limits of the universe and what can become reality with one who is like minded has reawakened the scientist and, dare I say, the dreamer within me. It makes me wish to dream once more and to make such dreams reality. But when one has all ready dreamed of the stars and achieved them, what is left to dream of?"

Bruce nodded. "It alters everything down to the cellular makeup. The only thing it cant effect apparently is my Other friend," He sighed and shrugged.

Then he grinned at her, and eyes dancing, he nodded. "If this one works, then it will make it possible, for example, for me to become a woman and you a man, and for us to dance an age old dance." His eyes were full of a sort of smirk. "Do you know better?" Her hand on his arm made him shiver, and his eyes looked to hers with relish and thought.

"I believe in you." His words were soft, and when she spoke the last, he smiled softly. "There is always more. Come with me, please." He led the way toward a side door and handed her a helmet hanging from the wall as he took one too. "Put this on once we are inside."

He led her into the room which was black and featureless. the helmet covered the entire face save for breathing holes for nose and mouth. But no light came in, no sound.

Then, suddenly, the darkness bloomed with lights. All around them, glorious moving lights flowed and shifted, and he smiled. "Welcome to the other side of the rainbow, Doctor Wells."

The fact it affected everything within one's body was a bit disconcerting to Helena. Well, as far as bones being alerted went. Though when he said it didn't effect Hulk, Helena gave him an empathetic look. After all, there was no doubt in his mind that he wished to be rid of him once and for all so he could live a normal life.

At the potential of her becoming a man, Helena tilted her head a bit. "I somehow have issue imagining myself as a man. But it would be quite the experience, that I must say!" Helena gave him a bit of a smirk in return, a little gleam in her eyes. "I might, but I might not." And she would simply leave it at that.

There was that phrase again, "believe in you." Helena wasn't certain how quickly she'd regain all that she'd lost, if it could even be reclaimed, but she would try. There were people, Bruce included, who believed in her for reasons she had yet to completely comprehend and understand. But when he bade her to follow him, she did so without question. Though when he handed her the helmet, she was a mix of confused and intrigued. Once inside the room, she put the helmet on as he'd instructed her to.

Upon seeing the lights, Helena jumped slightly, looking this way and that, taking in the moving lights all around them. She turned around, turning this way and that, trying to take in the scene before her eyes. It was simply beyond anything she had ever imagined, and it was completely breath-taking. A genuine smile laced with awe crossed her face at the site.

"My God, this is...this is...I do not have the words to properly describe this!" Her voice was alive with pure awe and wonderment.

"This is subatomic energy, the very essence of matter and energy itself. It's a new science, beyond anything being worked on outside this building. But I can't do this alone. There are too many other things to do, too many things in the now. I need someone else working on it, someone I know will look at it with wonder, and with love for tyhe pure beauty of it, both as science and as the magic that it is..."

he smiled and turned to Helena, and touched her arm. "I need to ask you, Helena, to help me crack a whole new world of science, alongside everything else we do... what do you say?"

He didn't have endless wealth. He didn't have power. he wasn't the smartest man ion the planet. And he didn't have any diamond rings. But he could give her new worlds and new imaginations... and he would, if he had anything to say about it. This was his gift, to unlock that which no one else dreamed of, and open that door for others to follow.

Helena's was a mind that could dream far and imagine the most unimaginable things. But never had she ever thought something quite like this could be possible! Being able to see the essence of matter and energy in such a way was far beyond inspiring. Few things ever truly made Helena speechless, but this was most certainly one of those. Her mind was positively swimming with life as she saw all the lights around them. And oh, Bruce had chosen his words wisely. Helena did view this as pure beauty and the magic of nature itself.

The touch to her arm finally made her stop turning around to get a complete picture of her surroundings. She looked at Bruce, a smile firmly on her face. "It would be both my pleasure and honor to delve into a whole new world of science."

It had felt like centuries had passed since she'd last felt her mind be this alive with positive energy. Because that is what it was, positive energy. Hopefully from that would come the dreaming of something bigger, something better. And from that, positive thinking, optimism. Perhaps this was the doorway opening to show her the way to reclaim the woman she had once been. And more than anything, she wished to be that woman again.

Bruce loved seeing her reactions and seeing the way her face shifted, and turned. She had the look of wonder on her face and he knew he had begun his one and true mission. He was going to do his best to help her find that wonder again.

"Then welcome to the race to discover new wonders." He extended his hand to her as he slowly turned off the holograms. "With your mentality at my side, I know we can discover entire new worlds."

There was a chance of finding entirely new things on a quest like this. And he hoped this would be magnificent!

If Helena were honest with herself, she had not come into something so wondrous as when she'd first entered into Warehouse 12. This really was a new world she had never thought could exist. Never had she dreamed of anything even remotely similar to this. This was something she definitely needed. Something to open the borders of her mind once more so she could let herself spread her wings again.

When he extended his hand to her, she reached out and took in hers. "I do look forward to discovering new worlds. I fear it has been far, far too long since I last stepped foot into a brand new, wondrous place."

Helena was torn between being relieved the scent of apples didn't coincide with this new world or to be disappointed. But for the moment, she would go with relieved because if she started thinking of the scent of apples the Warehouse had given her, she would get emotional. It had been in her dying that she'd found that acceptance of the Warehouse once more. So for now, she would simply take this new world for what it was; a new opportunity to rebuild herself.

Bruce was relieved at the look in her face and the way she talked. He had hoped to engage her interests and it appeared he had done so. He breathed deeper and his smile spread across his secondary face like lightspeed. He felt like he could jump the moon, just then. He grinned at her and led her, by that hand, toward the door.

"I have more surprises for your senses and teases for your mind, but I thought I would offer refreshment. I've been cooking this morning, and it seems I've rediscovered a skill for pie making." He led the way out of the room. Down the lab way they went, and out another door and through a hall. From ahead, a new smell intruded, the smell of cherries.

"It seems, when stimulating my brain processes at odd hours, my mentality seeks ways to enlighten me and liberate itself from constant stimulation by urging me to indulge in creation. This new stimulation, this direction most unaligned with previous lines leads to a new discovery. Baking is fun. Like with experiments, taking the diverse elements and bringing them through a process of enhancement and material collection, realigning them as one from many and materializing a new product, a new synthesis of the disparate parts into a whole... is exciting."

His grin only grew as he led her toward the kitchen and spoke. "When so excited, the mind and body wish nothing more or less than to share such excitement with another, and to bring that other closer to one's own level of excitement with proper stimulation and observation, to emulate a connection and enhance the possibility of detente, and of hope, and of peace."

As she'd been on her way over here, Helena had only thought she'd be getting a rundown of one project, possibly something else she could get her hands on and work with to distract her. She had not anticipated being introduced to a world such as the once Bruce had just given her a glimpse. It had only been a glimpse, a taste, but it was far more than enough to get her attention, to get her mind thinking.

Following along after Bruce and keeping hold of his hand, she was rather intrigued as to what would come next. She lifted her brows in surprise at his mention of surprises. "There are more surprises? You have been planning this, haven't you? Deliberately appealing to my natural curiosity and awakening my mind. I should accuse you of devious plotting, my good man." Finally, a teasing tone in her voice. There was no telling how long it would last, but the important thing was that it was there now. She was showing signs of life, signs that would give her hope that she could pull herself back together after all.

The scent of cherries hit her and she took it in. And upon hearing that Bruce had been baking, she gave him a little look of curiosity. "So not only do you tantalize me with scientific matters, you bake a pie to entice my taste buds." Really, Helena was just glad he had not chosen apples. She had no aversion to the fruit, but the scent of apples would only remind her of the Warehouse, of her death.

"I cannot wait to taste this product of your experiments. It is true baking, and cooking in general, are very similar to science. So I am most eager to see the results of your experiments within the kitchen.

"Tis true, I have been plotting. I do enjoy making you smile, and engaging your mind as I dream of engaging your body, and your heart." He smiled at her, eyes dancing, as he faced her.

She was magnificent. He could see her coming more alive as he watched her and an urge hit him that swept over him. Mid-hall, he turned, kissed her and then skipped down the hall. "You, milady, do arouse the body and mind as incredibly as anything might ever hope, and your enhance the virility of the spirit and body, hence, your presence within and around an experiment guarantees a higher echelon of success and possibility than otherwise might be whelmed."

He paused. "And I do very much wish to work with you, for you stimulate my mind as no other ever has." His cheeks reddened at that, but he grinned as he opened the door to the kitchen and revealed several cherry pies cooling on the counters. he moved to started cutting pieces.

"Well I thank you for it. The smile and engaging my mind are most certainly needed now." It was certainly something she needed to at least temporarily take her mind off of trying to put herself back together.

The kiss was unexpected and served as a shock to her. Helena found herself frozen there for a moment trying to absorb the shock. And pairing the kiss with his words which came before it, she found it to be too much to absorb in the moment. It brought up too many emotions that she didn't want to feel, and memories she didn't want to think about. Considering the last person she'd kissed had been Irene, whom Moriarty had murdered. So while Bruce skipped down the hall, Helena closed her eyes and drew in a slow, very deep breath to try to center herself for a moment before following Bruce down the hall. As quickly as the life had been coming back, it was gone again, leaving her reeling for something to cling to.

"It has been many years since I have been able to do as much for someone, so I am grateful that you are able to be stimulated in such a way." There was a curve to her lips, but she was not one to take so well to compliments in such a way right now. Not for the first time, she wondered how she could hold such a place for someone when she couldn't even keep herself together. She followed him into the kitchen and blinked upon seeing the number of cherry pies.

"You have most certainly been busy in here," she commented, a bit awed by the sight before her as Bruce started cutting pieces.

And one glance at her face showed him he had erred and badly, and his face fell, as he turned to cut her a piece of pie.

"I am sure that with your assistance, the lab-work can be made to increase and get more effective. I find I am... not so good at concentrating of late. And someone more ground and yet more able to grasp such will likely be needed to ensure these efforts of science do continue. I am glad they are things you are interested in."

he turned to give her a piece and a fork, a smaller smile in place.

"Science has ever been my passion and my life... far more than it should be, perhaps. It occludes me to the rightful perception and sensitivity I should give unto others." An apology, of sorts, followed by a more real one.

"I am sorry. I should not have."

It was a good thing Helena didn't have the strength to close herself off currently because if she did, she would've slammed the doors shut around her. As it was, she was still trying to do so because it was too much to feel right now. There was an internal struggle going on to keep herself from shutting herself off because that is when she became dangerous to everyone around her.

"It is always helpful to have another pair of eyes and set of hands to help around the lab. I am always interested in things that I can get my hands on and engage my mind. I rather am always in need of a project of some sort." Especially being in this world where the Warehouse didn't exist so there weren't any artifacts to track down and neutralize.

Taking the pie and fork, she returned the little smile with a nod. She understood the apology, understood he had only meant well. But right now, she just couldn't handle the physical action, the emotions that came with it.

"Life is a series of trials and errors, not unlike what we encounter in scientific experiments. Were this any other time and I was in a better state of mind, it would have been met with a very different and favorable result." Helena had been about to apologize for her current state of mind, but stopped short of that. It wasn't exactly her fault she was like this right now.

"This is why I look for projects to work on because they distract me when I need it. And I rather enjoy learning new things far too much." With that, she cut a piece off of the pie and ate it. She ate it slowly, taking in the taste of it, letting the sensation fill her taste buds. And also to help pull her mind away from things she'd rather not think about right now.

"Then I am glad this lab can be such a place for you. Such experiments and such endeavors will always be open to you, and I will provide all I can in the application of such into the lives of those around us."

He steadily ate, and then placed his plate aside, looking thoughtfully around, his shoulders less squared than before, and feeling tired. He had been an idiot and let exuberance allow him to do harm to a lovely and incredible being. Fuck. Anger at himself caused one hand to curl, and his heartbeat to pound. He realized what he was doing even as he felt himself shiver. His eyes went wide. He summoned his will to speak, and to think.

"Wherever the world does conjure such incredible visions, one must endeavor to try to implicitly explain and explore the limits of them, and open the infinite barriers of each dynamically inclined element. Thus, to enfold and re-engage, the mind, one must first free all preconceptions and per-arrangements, instead setting in place a new dialogue and foundation for the creation and evolution of experimental sciences that most would never explore, enunciate, or dream of."

"Thank you, I will make use of it. I only have a small room in which to build things, so having an entire lab at my finger tips is positively brilliant." And really, Helena did like that prospect. While the room in her house would suffice for her inventive spurts, a lab was needed when she wished to explore the universe that modern science had opened up.

Going into thought as she ate the pie, she wondered what other security measures she could install in her house. No doubt there were ideas she could take from things she learned here with Bruce to turn into something to make her home safer. Not that it wasn't all ready safe with the protection spells and the various traps she'd built into the house. But sometimes it didn't hurt to be over-protected. And after all the paranoia and fearing for her life that Moriarty had put her through, she would rather over-protect herself, Myka and Claudia than under protect them.

"Such is the way with exploration and discovery. Only when the myriad of elements are discovered and pieced together can the complete picture be drawn. And only then can something be approached with complete confidence of knowing it completely. Sometimes it is difficult to dispose of the preconceptions, but doing so is sometimes necessary to be able to proceed easily with things. And sometimes the intangible is what becomes the most integrated into our being in our pursuit of it."

"You are welcome to use it anytime. There are so many ideas and projects to show you... I have not had this much time to devote to pure research and development. since..." He sighed. "since before things went to hell, back home. And I definitely never had someone to work with and bounce ideas off of like you." He had worked with Igor, and with Betty, but both were engineers at best. Neither one understood or even wondered about the things that drove him, that worried at him.

"Very true. And it is an ongoing process. To refuse and push away notions without merit and without basis, without closing one's mind to new possibilities. It is... a chance. A hope, and more, perhaps."

He rubbed his chin as he leaned against one counter and looked at her, and thought. So much to think on, so much to discover.

"I will thoroughly enjoy learning about these ideas and projects and rise to greet them with an open and curious mind. I will just be tentative in my use of everything within your lab until I am better acquainted with the technology. As they say, there is always a first time for everything. It has been over a century since I last engaged in scientific projects with another like-minded person." Helena had been working on her own inventions since arriving in this place, but inventions were different from scientific pursuits.

"There is always a chance and there is always hope. Sometimes it just needs to be found." Helena really should start taking her own statements to heart, but she really wasn't in the mood to believe in hope right now. All she could do was get through the day one moment at a time. And sometimes just getting from moment to moment was a battle that seemed so daunting to her.

When she finished the piece of pie, she set the plate down and looked back at Bruce. There was almost a desperation in her dark eyes. Desperation for something to save her from herself. Flipping some hair out of her face, she took a breath. "Hope is the gateway to life. To be without hope is to not be alive. Hope remained within Pandora's box for a reason."

"Then it is high times we renewed that passion and that acquaintance. I think yo will be a marvelous lab partner and coworker." And if needs be, he would make sure he never crossed that line again. He trembled in anger at himself, but he kept his breathing slow as he spoke. He kept control.

"Hope will not go away, hope will not desert us. It is inherent in all things and all people." He smiled softly. "And part of our job as scientists is to reignite the wonder and hope of those who live within the world and who cannot see the wonders we play with."

Her looked made him shiver, and he nodded to her. His hand went out, palm facing her, and he nodded to her. "Take my hand, Helena. Please." A hope, a crazy thing, a chance, filled him. And the grin he turned her was wild, and a little... well... sometimes, people did call him a mad scientist.

"I believe it is long overdue to renew and reawaken that passion. So for that, I thank you." Despite the projects she'd been working on, her scientific interest hadn't been reignited until she'd seen those lights. It was only a spark, but a spark was all that was needed to ignite a fire.

As Bruce reminded her that hope would not desert people, Helena nodded a little. She had spent so long being angry for what the world had taken from her that she'd believed hope had abandoned her. But really, she had turned from hope because she hadn't been strong enough to hold onto it. Despite the fact hope had defined her in her younger years, she had let go of it so easily. But what else could she have done when her daughter had been murdered in a senseless act and she'd been powerless to stop it or change it?

Looking at his hand, a bit of a puzzled look came over her face. She nodded a bit, reached out and took his hand, wondering what he had up his sleeve in this instance.

The instant she touched his hand, there was a rushing noise, though it as only in their minds. She, for the time they held hands, would suddenly see through his mind's eyes, through his perspective. His hope, his self-hatred and despair, always at the edge of his mind, held at bay by sheer will and never-ending desire to make the world a better place, to help people, and to make things better.

And his view of her, not a lofty pedestal, but a view of a man who had been through hell and saw the marks of a fellow traveler. A man who saw the marks of strength within her, based on his experiences. A view that showed him without doubt, that she could do more, be more, and had more strength than she knew. His view on the world, on the situation was vivid and clear, and full of self doubt, all caused by that one mistake, made all those years ago, that had unleashed the Hulk, his darker half, a half that caused destruction and mayhem, sorrow and pain, wherever it showed up. His endless struggle with that darkness only enhancing his want, his need, to see and feel the light, to look on others with an eye that could see both darkness and light, and hope.

The effect would slowly fade as he withdrew his hands from hers.

Once the connection was made, Helena felt her breath catch as she suddenly saw from Bruce's perspective. She saw his view of himself, the things he held inside. She saw it all, and while she had seen hints of the self-hatred and despair in past conversations, she now saw the depths of it. But what truly got her was the way he viewed her. She still didn't see how she was strong. Just because she was alive didn't mean she knew how to live. But maybe there was something within his view of her that she could eventually come to see.

As Helena could see from Bruce's perspective, he could see from hers. The guilt that was crushing her, the guilt of having used Myka, Pete, Claudia, even the Warehouse, just to destroy the world and put an end to the fury within her heart. The incredible pain that was far too potent for her to truly feel from having lost her daughter so long ago. The shattered heart and broken soul that was so tired of existing. The lurking darkness within her, the cold-hearted murderer that she could become at any given moment if the circumstances were right. All of the lost hope and beliefs she had once clung to. She was so very lost within herself and she truly feared drowning within herself all over again. There was also the constant fight with herself to keep herself from closing off. She couldn't afford that. But more than anything else, there was a potent love in her heart, perhaps the only thing that was keeping her heart alive and warm.

But despite the pain, the fury, the love, there were little sparks of hope. Hope for a better future. Hope that she could some day redeem herself in her own eyes despite the fact she'd all ready been redeemed. She'd sacrificed herself selflessly to protect Myka, Pete and Artie, two of which hated her and one who was starting to trust her again. But even with the sparks, Helena was having trouble clinging to them because she didn't know how to do so.

When he pulled his hand away from hers, she lowered hers to her side. As she looked at him, there was an understanding within her mahogany eyes, but there were also unshed tears within them that had welled up from the experience. Perhaps some day, she could see herself as he saw her. But currently, she was so beaten down by life she was having trouble to even see which way she could go.

"There is yet hope in the world. Some days, that must be enough, but the wonders are not yet over. I know you are tired, but... can you dance, Helena?"

He was not done, he was not defeated. He would rise.

He held out his hand again, and this time, music slowly started, music he had begun introducing her too. Frank Sinatra singing softly. "Sometimes, the only answer is to dance." He hoped and prayed that somehow he could help her. He could not right all the wrong in one day, but he was not easily dissuaded, and his eyes danced once more.

"Can I dance? I am a Victorian woman my mother tried to groom to be a proper lady. I am able to dance to the standards of the late 19th Century. Which I hope is acceptable?"

Upon hearing the music start, a bit of a smile curved her lips. She was more one for orchestral and piano music as well as operas, but she did like Frank Sinatra's voice and his music wasn't too jarring from what she was used to hearing. She reached out and took his offered hand. "That I cannot deny. Though it has been well over a century since I last danced. So forgive if I step on your foot."

"I forgive milady, and gladly." He bowed over her hand and then stepped into her space, placing his other hand at her shoulder for the slightly more formal dance position. With a nod to her, he stepped into the dance, moving gently with the beat of music, and smiled as the music carried them forward.

He enjoyed making her smile, and he enjoyed making her surprised. Today, he had done both a lot, even if he had failed some, too. He was determined to find a way to make this a very good day.

"Did you know that in some dances, mathematical formulas exist, and that, when played exactly right, with two people in the right places, interesting things can happen?"

As they danced, the music swelled some, taking on more classical sounds, and the floor itself seemed to shift slightly with the music.

When Bruce moved into her space, Helena placed her free hand on his shoulder. It felt so incredibly strange to her to do this when she wasn't dressed for the occasion. Well, not to Victorian standards anyway. She should be wearing a dress, not pants, but it was no matter. She moved to the music, doing her best to fall into the music's beat and Bruce's own movements.

There were signs that she was a little rusty in dancing, but she moved with grace and elegance. When Bruce mentioned the mathematical aspect, Helena merely lifted her brows quizzically.

"Interesting things, you say? What kinds of interesting things can happen?" She well knew what he was talking about, but still she feigned innocence in this matter mostly to see what his response would be. She continued moving to the music as the rustiness faded and she was moving more comfortably and confidently. The Victorian lady in her wasn't completely lost in this respect.

For once, Bruce was not talking of the obvious, though his reaction to her would be apparent should Helena glance down. NO, this time, he had another different thing in mind. As they danced, he spoke softly.

"Sometimes, an equation simply needs a solidifying aspect that is reinforced by a pattern equation reference. And when it gets it..." As the music shifted, and their feet his the last step of the first set, the walls of the room seemed to shimmer and fall away, followed by the ceiling, and the floor, until they were dancing on a very solid nothing.

The view, however, was not quite what one might expect. All around them, in miniature style, less than half their size, but not tiny, stretched Lawrence, Kansas, with buildings, streets, and complete with moving people. In one corner even sat the warehouse with blinking lights showing the people within, including two locked in an embrace of sorts and moving in time with Bruce and Helena.

Well all right, so Helena was off in her interpretation of his words. That wasn't exactly something new, but it just gave a different spin to the conversation than she'd anticipated. Which wasn't a bad thing, she wasn't certain she could handle innuendos currently. Ever since she'd learned Irene had been killed, she'd been closed off in such respects. Though her interactions with Bruce had been helping to bring herself back from that. She knew she was blameless in what happened to Irene, but the fact of the matter remained that she'd had that taken away from her, despite the troubles that had cropped up between them towards the end.

Helena was trying to decipher Bruce's words and what he meant as the scenery around them changed. So she didn't even notice it at first. But then she noticed the buildings and such around them and she blinked, looking around in both puzzlement and wonder. She tilted her head to the side, watching the blinking lights as they all moved.

"Then anything is possible?" She offered as a possible finish to his sentence as she looked back at him. It was a guess because now he'd gone into a realm of science she had no knowledge of at this point. And really, she was a bit off mentally today, so following what he was saying was a little more difficult for her at the moment as they were outside her realm of expertise.

"Anything at all." He smiled softly, and stepped back, sweeping her a bow. He felt the scene fade and shuddered. "Science is the art of finding out what makes the impossible impossible and then proving it wrong, in my opinion. There is always an answer, even if the answer is sometimes, temporarily, no. Here and now, today, there are wonders galore to be found." He tapped the wall near them, and a small tablet slipped out.

"This is... this is a comprehensive list of the projects I am working on, and ideas I am pondering pursuing. Some light reading, as they say, if you are curious." He offered it to her. If they were to be working partners, somewhat, then he wanted her to have it.

Part of him worried though, and he knew he would have to do blood tests as soon as she left. He hadn't come that close to an incident since the shooting. And that boded badly for his ability to work closely with anyone. Which, to quote Tony Stark, sucked balls.

Truly, Helena had never dreamed of things such as this. Martians invading Earth. Time machines. Genetic experimentations. All of those and more she'd dreamed of, in some cases even made them into reality. But the things Bruce had shown her today were far beyond anything she had even tried to fathom. When Bruce gave her a bow, she curtsied in response, dipping her head as she did so perfectly. "That is an excellent view on science, I agree. I like the thought that nothing is impossible, that even what may lurk at the edge of the human imagination may become reality when given the correct circumstances to make it into reality." She smiled, running a hand through her raven hair, pulling it from her face.

"Oh brilliant, I do enjoy light reading," she responded, taking the offered tablet, looking up at him with a warmer smile. "Pair this with the list I have been keeping since arriving here and I daresay we both shall be kept very busy for several years. If not more."

That was providing that the Seal didn't send either of them back their own world. Because Helena was a woman living on borrowed time. If she was sent back, she'd be dead again. Everything this world had to offer her in the present moment was truly all she had. And despite her current broken state emotionally and mentally, Helena wanted to live each moment to its fullest. She'd spent over a century wasting time, and she did not want to waste anymore time if she could help it.

He chuckled and grinning at her. "I believe you are right. One thing you can always count on me for, is these scientific endeavors." He nodded to her, feeling somewhat, well, bouncy. There was something hopeful about sharing all of this. His worries could wait, at least for a little while.

That much, he could do.

"There is time enough, to try new things, I think, and pursue old ones. And to dream, perhaps, of making a difference." He had found one moment to make one here, and if nothing else happened, that would be enough for him. He remembered the shot, ringing out and the sight of her going over, Myka flinging her down as he hurled the teleport device at them...and them vanishing in a flash of light, safe... and then everything went green. The rest was lost to him, but that moment was indelibly etched in his mind. It meant everything. It meant, for once, he was not a complete failure.

It meant hope.

"And I can always be counted on for thinking outside the box more often than not. So I do believe this shall be a harmonious melding of minds." Helena smiled warmly at him. It would very much be a melding of two great minds. Helena's was one of the greatest minds of her day. Bruce's was without a doubt one of the greatest of his day. No doubt many interesting and wonderful things would emerge from this.

"I have every confidence that we can make a difference." And Helena truly wished to do that with the life she had now. It would also give her something good to focus on, something positive she could aim for as she pulled herself up. Though she well knew she could die at any given moment. The sniper Moriarty had stationed to kill her was proof of that. If it hadn't been for Myka seeing the sniper and acting as quickly as she had, Helena would be dead right now. For a second time. She really hadn't dwelled on that matter, she'd had other things to worry about. But she was thankful for Myka and Bruce's assistance. And thankful to Lexi for helping to heal the wound itself, though Helena really didn't want to repeat the experience of drinking a vampire's blood.

With that thought, Helena looked Bruce in the eye. "I never properly thanked you for your assistance in saving Myka from being killed by Moriarty. And, in turn, for helping to save me. So, thank you. Truly." There was a genuine tone of gratitude in her voice and in her smile.

"I hope that I do not require such assistance again. Once was more than enough." Helena smiled. And really, she didn't want to have need of drinking blood again to instantly be healed. She wouldn't put that on Lexi again. It was not something she wished to repeat in any respect. Still, this was a new beginning, and Helena figured she should take the universe's hints and take it. And really, how many new beginnings did a person actually get? Helena was fairly certain she'd all ready more than she should, so she shouldn't press her luck, or lack thereof, any further than she all ready had.

"I believe we shall. I am ready and willing." She smiled warmly, longing to get her hands into a project she could put her focus into. She didn't exactly do well in focusing solely on herself for long periods of time. So putting her mind to use, giving her hands something to do would be good. If anything, working on a project had to help her get a start on putting herself back together. Perhaps if she could embrace her mind in this way and not try to keep it completely focused on righting a wrong that was done to her, she could find a healthy path to walk this time.
