Who: Irene Adler and H. G. Wells
What: Two British women uniting over a decent cup of tea.
When: Now-ish?
Where: A cafe
Warnings: TBA

Time travel was not new to Helena, she'd done it before with her own time machine. One could argue she'd time traveled over the duration of the 20th century, but considering she'd been conscious the entire time, Helena just took it as being in suspended time. So the fact she had to get used to new surroundings wasn't anything new. At least this time it was easier to take, she'd only jumped ahead a few months. When she'd first awakened from her 110 year stasis, she was bewildered by the world she'd awoken to. So many things she'd missed. At least she had a sharp mind and could pick up on things quickly. It had taken her a while to learn what a laptop was and how to operate it, but she'd gotten there. That made being in Lawrence, Kansas that much easier, really. And Claudia was here, so there was at least some familiarity there.

After exchanging notes? Posts? Comments? Whatever they were, with Irene, Helena agreed to meeting her at a cafe. All ready she liked this woman. Even though Irene wasn't from the 1800s are her original counterpart, Helena felt a connection back to the world she knew, to a friend she'd once had in Arthur Conan Doyle. Or was that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle now? It was hard to keep track, she'd missed so much. Of course, Helena knew better than to treat Irene as a connection to a life she believed was completely lost to time, she would treat her as an equal, as a potential friend. And what better than to get to know someone than over a decent cup of tea? Having made note of the address, Helena set off to find it. Though it didn't take her long to navigate her way there. The roads in Lawrence weren't as confusing as London's streets could be. Stepping inside, she took a moment to take in the aroma of the cafe. It was invigorating, really. She had never thought to smell anything ever again.

After all, in her world she was dead, having been at ground zero of a nuclear blast. She had hoped to be reunited with her daughter, but found herself here instead. And she would make the most of this experience. Stepping further in, she glanced around to see if Irene was there yet. Upon not finding the woman there, she went and chose a table for them. She sat facing the door, then turned her attention to the menu, carefully reading over it. There were so many choices, she wasn't sure what she should order. As long as it was good and British, she was happy.

[OOC: Sorry for reposting but my other reply sucked because I was distracted while writing it. So have a better one! And FOURTH TIME'S the charm because HTML FAIL. >_> I have issues today, good lord.]

Helena was fully aware of the reputation that proceeded her, and she was also well aware that when she used her name, people expected her to be male. While she had to take it silently a century ago, she was going to get the credit she deserved this time. Helena would be lying if she said she didn't enjoy bursting that particular misconception people had. Of course, she didn't blame people for thinking that way. Social constraints of the late 19th Century had left her wanting for more. But in this modern era, she would claim her credit wherever and whenever possible. And she was called, grouped with a couple others, the "father" of science fiction. She did quite enjoy that title. It made her glad that her ideas survived a century after she'd come up with them. Well minus the whole believing she was a man, but that was beside the point. Helena knew she'd left her mark on Warehouse 12, at least. While that had ended in a debacle, everyone associated with the Warehouse knew who she was and the legacy of her inventions she'd left behind.

She was early, but she didn't mind. Helena liked people watching, and it also helped her in this day and age with the body language and so forth. Well, mostly. Helena still sometimes acted far too Victorian, and others she had no care for people's personal space. But she did mostly come across as polite, until she really got to know someone, then she tended to let her full range of sarcasm and wit show through. Though truthfully, Helena was sarcastic and witty even if she didn't know someone that well. It was just that she tended to open more if she knew someone and trusted them. Or, in some cases, used her baggage to manipulate people. But she wasn't so much about the manipulating people thing. Not anymore. She had turned over a new leaf and with the second, or was it the third?, lease on life, she wasn't going to squander it.

When Irene arrived, Helena looked up at her and smiled warmly, taking her hand and shaking it. "Ms Adler, it is likewise a great pleasure to meet you. It is good to hear a familiar accent. I rather miss a good old British accent that isn't my own." She chuckled a bit, settling into her seat. This was definitely going to be an encounter she'd truly enjoy. Not even here a day and all ready she was making friends and bursting everyone's bubble of what history had taught them to be true.

She had a firm handshake, which was something Irene approved of. And she was beautiful, another thing that gained her favor. If H.G. Wells was to be a woman, then she should be a stunning, intelligent woman, and so far she was fulfilling these requirements wonderfully. Irene had high expectations of course, but she suspected Ms Wells had the same of her. If she was hoping for a contralto courtesan she'd be sorely disappointed though; but The Woman was intending to impress in her own way.

She sat, nodding in agreement. "Couldn't concur more; I admit to missing London more than a bit. Currently, however, staying here is proving far too interesting to miss" she replied, the corner of her lips tweaking in amusement. Interesting was a mild word for it, but she wasn't going to elaborate too much. Yet, anyway.

"Please forgive me for being crass, but I gather from the boards that you were expecting an afterlife, not Kansas. This must be a bit of a let down, suddenly appearing in the middle of an apparent apocalypse." One eyebrow raised queryingly as she spoke. She had considered her own timing in arriving here a little dismal, but during ones death? That had to be every sort of disconcerting.

She picked up the menu and scanned it quickly. They still had the English Breakfast tea, which pleased her immensely; Irene didn't like to promise something and not deliver. Which was mildly ironic considering what Moriarty kept goading her about, but she wasn't thinking about that now, the present company was far more engaging.

There was also a tempting selection of cake she'd overlooked on her last visit; she'd chosen a seat without a clear line to the counter when there with Lexi. "I think I might have to indulge and have some of that gateaux as well as tea, it looks divine".

Upon first impression, or first sight rather, Helena was definitely impressed. It wasn't every day that Helena declared herself a fan of something or someone, but she truly admired Irene Adler. She may not say as much, but she had a feeling Doyle based Irene off of herself. Well, at least in her own world she believed that to be the case. No doubt this would prove to be quite the interesting meeting, it might be just like talking to herself in a way. What Helena was expecting was an interesting, intellectual conversation, and she had no doubt that that was what she would get. She smiled warmly, all ready admiring Miss Adler. She was a beautiful woman, and Helena certainly appreciated beauty.

"It does seem to be quite the attraction for excitement. I do not mind, though some of the excitement might not be quite what we want it to be. But I do agree, it is interesting so far." Really, Helena had been a bit skeptical of whether Heaven and Hell actually existed, but here she seemed to have her answer, at least as far as this world went. It was still a little hard to grasp that demons were running around trying to end the world, but she supposed there were stranger things that could happen.

Then came the question about having expected an afterlife. She didn't exactly like the topic much, but she had died a hero's death, so it wasn't all that bad. She nodded, a slightly sad twinge in her dark eyes, but she maintained eye contact with Miss Adler. "Yes, I was expecting an afterlife. Quite a let down, actually. I didn't exactly want to die, but I didn't want my friends to die. I had expected to be reunited with my daughter, but instead I find I'm still alive in Kansas. It is an upgrade from South Dakota, though." After all, Warehouse 13 had been in the Middle of Nowhere, South Dakota.

Following suit, Helena took the menu and looked it over. She was rather surprised by the selections they had. For being a cafe in America, there were some quality drinks on the menu. It was difficult to make a decision until her eyes landed on Earl Grey and she smiled. How long had it been since she'd had a good cup of Earl Grey tea?

Helena turned her head and saw the assortment of cakes. "Perhaps I've miscalculated. I must surely be in Heaven if one can find these fine specimens in the middle of America." She couldn't help the smile on her face. Tea and cake sounded positively delightful, especially when she was still adjusting to this new place. "I may have to have some cake as well." Now the question was just what kind she should have.

Adler returned the smile without hesitation. "Very interesting. If a little unbelievable, but considering the quantity of proof that this is not my world, I've decided to accept it. Not that I've seen any sign of the apocalypse yet, but between the books about Sherlock, the Joker running rampant around the city, and people like Ronald Weasley responding to the coms, it seems possible."

When Irene saw the look in Helena's eyes she regretted her question immediately, but there was no way to retract it. Instead she simply replied sympathetically "I'm sorry it's not what you hoped for, truly. But they say that the seal often sends people back; perhaps think of this as an interim period, before you see her again?" She didn't believe in an afterlife, herself, but it obviously wasn't the right time to discuss that.

She watched Wells survey the cakes and laughed slightly. "I know, it is surprising isn't it? Lexi brought me here when we went shopping and I was pleasantly shocked."

A waitress arrived to take their order as she talked, and waited patiently for Irene to finish. "I'll have an English Breakfast tea and" she paused contemplatively "the strawberry sponge cake, thank you."

"If I were a wholly different person, I would agree with you on the unbelievable part. But considering who I am, I well know that anything is possible. After all, I did build and launch a rocket in the 1890s. I have just always had a strange relationship with religion, so this particular reality may take a little getting used to." Christianity hadn't been Helena's type of thing, really, so she'd have to wait and encounter a demon before she was fully convinced this was a religious happening.

Any time talk turned to her daughter, Helena always got emotional. Even over a century later, the wound was still raw, and perhaps it always would be. One never truly got over the death of their child, especially when it was a violent death. As she thought of Christina, Helena lifted her hand, her fingers sliding under the collar of her shirt, searching for the locket that wasn't there. It was a reflex, really, but as soon as she remembered she'd dropped her locket at the entrance to the Sanctum, she let her hand fall back to the table, an inaudible sad sigh escaping her lips, but she smiled despite it. "Thank you. I will look at it that way, and also as another chance to spend more time with a friend who is also here."

"I'll have an Earl Grey tea, and the chocolate coffee cake, please," Helena ordered after Irene finished hers. She folded the menu and set it aside, and turned her attention back to Irene as the waitress went to put their orders in. "So I do believe you were going to inquire about my top secret line of work?" Helena was always rather to the point about things. Though she wasn't sure exactly what she should say about the Warehouse. Well, the basic overview would perhaps be enough. She didn't need to go into the hierarchy or anything too complex. So explaining her job would probably suffice. And it was, for the most part, a far less emotional topic for Helena, at least until she'd get to the part where she'd been bronzed. And when she'd tried to end the world, but those details would only come if asked for her story, not what she did for the Warehouse.

"Mmm, I can identify with said strange relationship. I attended catholic schools, but always had an entirely agnostic view of the world until I arrived here. Now...well. I haven't contemplated it much, but clearly I need to."

When Helena sighed Adler wasn't entirely sure what to do. One could say she's lost her baby, in a way - wasn't that what Sherlock compared her glance at the safe to? - but it wasn't comparable, really. So instead of responding directly she simply reached across the table and squeezed her hand gently for a moment in sympathy. "Time with friends is always good. I find myself missing people I didn't properly consider when at home, now that they're not around."

When H.G. ordered Irene found herself nodding in approval. Earl Grey had always been a bit too delicate for her, but it was a good English choice. And when she mentioned her job Irene couldn't help but smile. Direct and straight to the point; she liked that. "I was indeed. Saying 'top secret' around me is like waving a red flag at a bull; I simply must find out more. So please, do tell, I'm all ears."

"I was, obviously, raised Anglican, but I grew to have more a belief in myself and a God that was more personal to my beliefs than adhering myself to any one religion." Her brother had been the same way, though he had apparently taken it further than she had. He'd written about it. Why yes, Helena was guilty of looking up whether Charles had continued writing after she'd been bronzed, which he had. Funny how his work had changed suddenly and drastically once she wasn't there. She did wonder what those admirers of his thought when he stopped writing so much science fiction.

As Irene squeezed her hand, Helena gave her a grateful, gentle smile. There were no words to describe the pain she still held in her heart, the pain that had festered within her soul for a century as she remained completely conscious but unable to move or do anything other than think. "It is strange is it not? When separated from everyone you know, one seems to miss people they never anticipated missing." She could name several people at Warehouse 12, along with Artie at Warehouse 13. She even missed her twit of a brother. Though the one she missed the most was Myka. The relationship she shared with Agent Bering went beyond words. They had an intellectual connection and an emotional one. It hurt to be separated from her, but Helena would do her best to focus on the positives in this place and not let herself get consumed by grief and longing once more. "But I suppose that is one of the points in being in this world, we have the chance to make new friends and forge new relationships." At that, her smile grew warmer and stronger. Charm had always been something Helena had in great quantity, and she did know how to use it.

"It is a bit complicated to explain, so bear with me. I first need to give a history lesson of sorts. My job dates back over millenia. In my reality, there is something called the Warehouse. It is a sanctum where artifacts with dangerous powers are kept locked up to keep them from hurting people. Artifacts can be anything from rigging of the Mary Celeste to a piece of masonry from the House of Commons in London to a trident from ancient Minoa. These artifacts are usually created during time of great distress or agony. The easiest is when great human suffering is involved. It is the job of the Warehouse to track down artifacts in the world and lock them away. This has been done over the millenia since the ancient world. Across that span of time, there have thirteen Warehouses located across the world. For example, Warehouse 12, where I originally worked as an Agent, was in London. Warehouse 13, where I had been reinstated as an Agent after I was debronzed, was located in South Dakota. Warehouse 2 was located in ancient Egypt, hidden in the dessert sands. There is a hierarchy within the Warehouse staff, but I won't bore you with those particular details. The Agents are the ones who go out in the field to recover the artifacts. That was my job at Warehouse 12." Helena reflected back on those days, before her daughter had been lost to her, and she smiled fondly. "Warehouse 12 was the second most important thing in my life. As an Agent, I was respected for my intelligence and treated as an equal among the male staff there, unlike the rest of the Victorian society." She shook herself out of the reverie. "So, feel free to ask me questions. I'd rather not sit here and ramble on and on if you have a particular question or two burning to get out."

Irene simply nodded when Helena said she'd been raised Anglican. She had assumed as much, considering the H.G. Wells of history was.

"It is strange. Very strange. People who meant very little now come to mind every day." She sighed slightly, thinking of Kate yet again. That little red head was never far from her thoughts, now that she had no one with her, no one to serve her and indulge her whims. "True, though; this world is a whole new start, a chance to reinvent and establish oneself all over again. It's a challenge I've been enjoying, so far." She couldn't help but mentally laugh at Helena's smile. There was no need for charm; Irene was determined to continue this relationship.

When Helena began to explain her job Irene couldn't help but raise an eyebrow in skepticism; but by the end she was almost gaping. Realising as much she stopped and composed herself, but she couldn't help laughing a little. "That sounds completely unbelievable, but you know that I assume. Where this any other situation I'd be advising therapy and some serious medication."

"Questions...lets see....what sort of dangerous powers?" She couldn't help be curious as to why the rigging of an abandoned ship, or a brick from a politicians playpen could be considered dangerous.

"I do like the second chance. Though I guess for me, this is really my fourth chance to reinvent myself." Her second chance had come after she'd been debronzed, but she had fallen in the end. The third had been after her consciousness had been separated from her body and kept in the Janus Coin, then when Sykes had put her back together, so-to-speak. "I am looking forward to this. I do hope I get it right this time." Helena chuckled, running a hand through her long, dark hair.

"I know it sounds completely insane, and I am fully aware if this were anywhere else, I would be institutionalized. Or worse." She chuckled. And it was only in that precise moment she realized she'd just told her one. For a moment, Helena merely blinked. All Warehouse employees were able to tell one other person about their job. Helena had never used it. She had planned for Christina to be the one to know, when she had gotten old enough, but that had never happened. And when she'd been debronzed, all the people she'd met that meant anything to her were all ready Warehouse Agents themselves. But quickly, Helena recovered herself.

"It varies. The rigging of the Mary Celeste can coil itself around you, the more you pull, the tighter the knots get. It is like a boa constrictor killing it's prey. I was caught in it once, not a nice feeling. The Minoan Trident if plunged into the ground three times can unleash the force of a supervolcano and plunge the world into an ice age. It is theorized that the Trident was responsible for the sinking of Atlantis. The piece of masonry from the House of Commons absorbed the entire concussive force of the German luftwaffe during World War II, as I was told. So it was a bomb ready to explode. Though when I encountered it, it was hooked to another bomb, turning it into a nuclear device. Let's just say that is how I met my end shortly before ending up here. Though I managed to save my friends, but not myself." Helena shuddered slightly, remembering that intense heat against her skin in the moment before everything, including herself, was incinerated. At least it was a largely quick and painless death. "Those are only a few examples. There are many other artifacts that have less dire effects, but they are no less potent or harsh, they just tend to affect one person instead of many."

"I'm sure you'll manage it perfectly." she said, in total sincerity. How could a woman like Ms Wells not thrive in a place like this? It was insane and unthinkable and her own life sounded exactly the same, she would manage fine. In Irene's opinion anyway.

She noticed Helena's moment of disconcertion, but didn't comment on it. Obviously something had crossed her mind, but it wasn't Irene's place to pry - she'd done enough of that already. "At home, whilst doing my thesis, I examined some people who had delusions of fantasy worlds. Now I wonder was I too quick in dismissing them as insane. Although probably not; if my world had Warehouse agents, or supernatural beings, I believe I would have heard about it." And she would have, too; the rich variety of clients she entertained would have informed her. Of that she was certain.

"The rigging sounds fascinating...I could do with a rope that you couldn't escape every now and again. But I assume it was impossible to control?" Oh that would be delicious though, binding someone in such a thing. Watching them try to escape only to be more and more restricted.

When Helena described the explosion that had claimed her life Irene winced in sympathy. "That does not sound in any way pleasant. But I'm glad you saved your friends; at least there was a purpose to it, no?"

She nodded in understanding regarding the other artifacts, glancing to the counter as she did, wondering about their tea. "I see. Your job really must have been fascinating."

"Of that I have no doubt." Most people may have thought of that as bravado, but Helena had always been confident in herself. And given the strides she'd been making in changing herself, of becoming something better than she had been before. "And I also must say that you will adjust swimmingly." She smiled. Oh she was all ready enjoying this encounter.

It wasn't surprising that Miss Adler didn't press Helena's pause. Helena was a little glad for it, as she wasn't sure she wanted to explain that significance of that just now. Perhaps at a later date, once they better knew each other. But right now? Helena didn't think it would go over that well. "Your thesis? Were you a doctor, then?" It was Helena's turn to ask about Irene. After all, she wasn't going to assume that this Irene was the same as the one in the books. Presuming things tended to be bad, after all. "I do imagine you would have heard about it. The Warehouse tends to protect itself very closely, but one never knows." And again, Helena wasn't wanting to go into detail about the fact people who worked at the Warehouse had one of three fates; they either went insane, turned evil and were killed or bronzed, or they were killed on the job.

"It really was. It comes alive whenever someone is close to it. It just reaches out and ensnares you and either you hope that there's someone who can help you, or you're pretty much done for." Thakfully Artie had been there to help free her, and Myka who'd also gotten herself entangled. "Also, I must say that when there's two people tangled in it, it gets infinitely more complex." She smirked a bit, remembering that incident with Myka. "Though I must say, I am highly intrigued by what you personally would do with such a rope."

"It wasn't, but there are worse fates. I've suffered two fates that were worse than that. At least it was a relatively quick and painless way to die. And a noble one, though I'm not exactly a noble soul." Even now she still didn't quite see herself as noble, not after the things she'd done and the blood she had on her hands.

Smiling again, Helena nodded. "I was never lacking for excitement, that is for sure." Which was the truth. A moment later, their tea and cake arrived. "Ah, excellent. I was getting thirsty," she commented with a little chuckle.

Irene simply smiled and nodded in acknowledgement of Helena's statement. She was right, they'd both do just fine here.

She laughed when she asked about her thesis. "No, not a doctor per se. I qualified in psychology, although I never practiced. Well, technically never practiced, but my work does involve a lot of....mind play, shall we say" She wasn't entirely sure if she should tell H.G. exactly what she did yet. She may have lived in the 20th century for some time, but that didn't necessarily mean that she was quite liberal enough to deal with it. Most people born in this time weren't, for goodness sake. "Well yes, I imagine so. I had clients from all walks of life, and they kept me filled in on all matters of interesting things."

"Ah, not so useful then, I admit. I would find it quite handy if it were more controllable, but if it kills those it ensnared it would a little pointless." She paused. It was becoming increasingly more hard to avoid discussing her profession, so she decided to just drop the pretense. "I am not exactly like my literary counterpart when it comes to working habits, hence my interest in the rope. Tell me, did they have dominatrixes in the 1800s?"

"Quick and painless is to be preferred, I suppose." She watched as the tea and cake was placed in front of them and smiled, picking up her fork. "I do hope it tastes as good as it looks!"

Helena listened with great interest as Irene described her work without really stating any details. Psychology had been one of many areas of interest for her. One of her favorites had been Gestalt, whose ideas had been the catalyst for the way her time machine had operated when she built it. "Do you favor one school of thought in psychology or do you collaborate various trains of thought from different sources?" It would be just like Helena to ask such a scholastic question, but hers was a mind that was curious and needed to know and understand things as well as debate them. The way Irene referred to her clients only intrigued Helena further as to what line of work she was in, exactly. But she didn't get the chance to ask just yet.

"There was a way to disarm it, but no way to control it." There was really no way for a person to control an artifact no matter how much a person may think they could. Helena had been a tool of the Minoan Trident once she'd touched it. Sykes had been a lifelong slave of that damned bracelet that eventually caused him to destroy the Warehouse. Though as Irene started to further discuss her work, Helena looked at her, fully interested in this. At the question, Helena thought for a moment, sifting through her memory. "Yes, I do believe they did. I am aware of some from the 18th Century, so I would imagine they were around in the 19th as well. I never personally knew one, though I would have loved to." Helena was far more liberal in these matters than most would believe of her. Despite the hints she'd dropped to Myka, Pete and Claudia, there was so much more she hadn't shed light on yet. "I also once read Venus in Furs in my younger days. Fascinating book, that." She smirked a bit, then awaited Irene to continue.

Sipping her tea first, Helena smiled warmly. "Ah, now there is an excellent cup of tea." She then picked up her fork and took a bite of her cake. "Oh it is more than as good as it looks!"

"Generally I collaborate. No one person can be wholly correct when it comes to the human mind, it would be foolish to only consider a single person or school superior to others." She blinked slightly, surprised at herself. It had been some time since she'd considered such things.

Irene nodded. "Disarm, but not control, I understand. Again, not much good to me then; I do prefer to be the one in the drivers seat."

Watching Helena's obvious fascination as she elaborated on her line of employment Adler couldn't help but smile. She was more than a little glad that Ms Wells was so open to the idea. "Well, you know one now. And Venus in Furs is a delectable book, I considered it practically an instruction manual in my formative years. Although I'm not as found of men as the antagonistic Venus, I've always found woman much more pleasing. Still, both can be very interesting clients, in their own way." Irene had the feeling that Helena was not always a man favouring lady, and that finishing remark should clarify her suspicions nicely.

Picking up her own tea she nodded in agreement. "This place is one of the few decent tea serving establishments in Lawrence, although I hadn't sampled their cake until now" delicately removing a small piece of her sponge and sampling it. "It really is! I am more than pleasantly surprised, I will freely admit!"

Nodding, Helena thought that was the best path. It was why she tended to study a little bit of everything she could get her hands on. "A very wise stance, if I do say so myself. One cannot simply put every human being into one box or one way of thinking. We are a far more diverse people than that." Obviously there would always be people who tried to force everyone else into a box, but Helena wasn't one of them. She had a more open mind than that. When she was in her right mind, of course. If something was upsetting her, all bets were off.

Oh this was positively delightful. Helena had not foreseen this revelation. And her fascination only grew, and she hung on each of Miss Adler's words as though her life depended on them. "I am very pleased to know one now." Her smile only widened. Then at the last bit, a twinkle entered her eyes and her smile took on a more sensual undertone. "Women are by far more pleasing. Men are well enough for their purpose, but I do find them tiresome too quickly. Women, however, are far more intriguing." Helena definitely did not always favor men, she had, in fact, grown tired of the men she'd gotten involved with turning against her in the end. The only good thing a man ever did for her was give her her precious Christina.

"I shall remember this place when I am in need of a good cup of tea." She took another bite of her cake. "This is indeed an excellent find! The chocolate and tea hit the spot." It was rather like being back home. Nevermind the fact Helena hadn't really been home in over one hundred years, save for the quick trip back soon after she'd been debronzed. This would be an excellent place to come and do some work some days. Nothing helped her focus like a good cup of tea.

Irene smiled in agreement, taking another sip of tea. Oh, people could be categorised, yes, but not through any one method of thought. Under her whip though, that was different. People became a lot more easy to read in that situation. Nothing revealed the core of a person like losing themselves to the pain and pleasure she could provide.

What was positively delightful was Ms Wells' reaction to her words, and that look on her face as she agreed with Irenes preferences. Now this was a pleasant turn of events. Smiling back with more than a hint of promise in her eyes she replied "Well, it is very nice to find someone of a similar mind frame. Men really are tiresome, aren't they? In the long run at least. Women remain dynamic, surprising. They never cease being fun..." A grin played at the corners of her mouth and, spearing a piece of cake with her fork, she delicately licked some of the cream from the top, still looking at Helena with only partly concealed anticipation. This tea sharing had the potential to turn into something most delightful in the long run and she wasn't going to pass on the opportunity.

"Mmmm, they really do hit it, don't they." She ate the rest of the piece and put down the fork down, reaching for her tea again. "It's worth remembering. I think it was the first thing that truly made me feel at home after I arrived, coming here. That, and getting my own place. Not being used to apartment living, the complex was a little stifling." It truly had been, she couldn't think in the place. She needed her own space, something of her own, and Jim had been so kind to oblige and help her out.

Of course, there was a certain group of people she'd always lump together in one method of thought, and those would be murderers. But who could blame her when her own daughter had been murdered? And Helena had been there during the event, allbeit in another's body, but still. Helena would always feel herself justified for that hate, and over a century on from the act, she still nurtured that burning hatred within her heart. However, it didn't always detract from the pain that still left her wanting for someone to take it away. She had to learn once again how to live in a world that wasn't her own, but at least Claudia was here, and she was forming quite the basis of a relationship with Miss Adler. Helena believed herself to be doing well thus far.

Oh that look in Irene's eyes was delightful. More than delightful, really. Helena felt anticipation grip her. It had been a little while since she'd experienced something as enticing as this. Myka had always captured her attention from the first time she'd laid eyes on the woman, but Myka wasn't here now, and she couldn't hope that the woman would end up here. Besides, Miss Adler was a very beautiful and increasingly intriguing woman and Helena simply must know more. "It is, isn't it? In my experience, the men I've been involved with usually turn against me in the end. Very tiresome really. But women...they always intrigue me and no matter how well I may come to know one, there is always some new mystery about them to uncover." Her smile took on a more flirtatious tone, keeping her dark eyes locked with Irene's. Just as Irene wasn't going to pass on the opportunity, neither was Helena. She had every intention of seeing where this would lead. She picked up her tea and took a sip, sliding the tip of her tongue along her lips once she was finished.

Taking another bite of her cake, Helena nodded in agreement. "It is a taste of home, though I have not properly been home in over a century." Upon hearing Irene lived elsewhere, Helena tilted her head slightly. "You have your own house? Oh that's marvelous. I have a flat in the complex. It is home enough for me, for now. I did not exactly have a home to speak of before arriving here." Mostly as she'd been a hologram up until shortly before arriving here. "Though I can understand the stifling nature, there are rather a lot of people living there. And the rooms are not overly large or spacious." Though Helena had taken one of the larger rooms. God knew it would only be a matter of time before her room was a mess of papers and scraps and inventions.

Irene watched Helena's movements with pleasure. This encounter was definitely worth dismissing her previous appointment for. She had a feeling that Helena would not be as malleable as that man had been, but that was part of the attraction really - she did love a challenge. And if the challenge was a stunning, intelligent woman? All the better.

"Very true. So tell me, Ms Wells, how many mysteries do you have to uncover? Because I have to admit, I would have no issue dedicating some time to explore them..." She picked up her own tea and drank from it slowly, watching Helena over the lip of the cup, a sultry look on her face. The Woman had decided she wanted the individual in front of her, and she got what she wanted.

The complex had definitely been contrary to Irene's tastes. But the house that Jim provided was definitely her style, and she had a feeling Ms Wells would also approve. "I do indeed. You are more than welcome to visit, if you wish to get away from the complex at any point - I found it hard to think there, so surrounded by people. Even if they were a room or two away from me." Pausing to eat a mouthful of cake she smiled smugly. "And, of course, living there wouldn't exactly suit my lifestyle."

Well, this was most certainly not what Helena had thought the conversation would turn to. But now? Her interest was completely piqued. All this talk had awoken a sense of desire that Helena had not completely felt in well over a century. She did feel the attraction to Myka, but considering the betrayal and being a hologram state she'd been in, that hadn't become a physical relationship. But now Irene was piquing that interest, and she could feel the anticipation rising.

"Now if I told you, my dear Miss Adler, the exact number of my mysteries, that would ruin the surprise, would it not?" She smirked sensually. "I will say this however, I am not one that can be completely laid bare in a handful of encounters." Helena gazed at Irene, the air of mystery within her dark eyes. Oh Helena definitely knew how to keep people coming back for more, and she had every intention of hooking Irene in that same manner.

Taking another bite of her cake, Helena smiled warmly. "Thank you for the invitation, I shall certainly exercise it." And she would, with decent notice, of course. She was not the type to just simply show up on someone's doorstep unexpected. Helena did have manners in that respect. "No, I expect it wouldn't. You do need the privacy for that. No doubt if you were in the complex, there would be people frightened to go anywhere near your room, and people that would be outside the door listening."

Oh, but this discussion was progressing wonderfully. "You're a wise woman, my dear Ms Wells. Revealing them all would ruin them, very true. I'm glad to hear I may get a chance to explore them though. Very glad." That look was simply too inviting to turn down, and she returned it with just as much vigour. "I will say, however, that I am much the same. You would need a lifetime of encounters to come close to knowing all I conceal." Which was more than just truth; it was fact. Not one person had come close to knowing Irene, not Kate, not even Sherlock. After all, knowing her properly would give a person power, and she was not one to hand that over lightly. She was not one to hand it over at all.

"Please do exercise it. In fact, take advantage of it if you wish. I won't object in the slightest." And she wouldn't; she couldn't think of anything more delightful than Helena arriving randomly on her doorstep. Unless she was in the middle of a session with a client, and even then it could be interesting. The thought of Ms Wells joining her with a whip in hand was simply tantalising. "Privacy is paramount, indeed. And judging from the reactions of some of the residents when I announced my profession you're quite right; between peeping toms and naysayers I would never have a moment to myself. Or at least the hall outside my residence wouldn't!" Smirking, she finished off her cake, thinking of how awkward yet amusing it would be to operate from within the complex.

Irene certainly was becoming a woman that Helena felt a kinship towards. Helena was not an easy case to crack, especially now, after having lost her daughter. She was reluctant to let people in very far, to let them unravel her outer barriers to see the woman inside. She would never admit such a thing, but she was afraid of being happy, truly happy, and after the events of the last two years, she didn't believe she deserved to be happy. But whatever she could achieve with Irene, if it could perhaps take the edge off of her inner sadness and pain, that would be enough. It would have to be enough. Keeping the smile firmly in place, she chuckled softly, her eyes still conveying her feeling that she wished to pursue this further. "Then I do believe we are two parts of a very similar soul. I shall most certainly enjoy discovering your mysteries and discovering you." Just as Irene was not one to hand over the power over herself, Helena was reluctant to let someone see the whole her, and that included the less-than-savory fact that she was a cold blooded murderer and she didn't exactly regret that fact except for one or two certain circumstances.

"Jolly good, then I shall take advantage of your hospitality. And should you ever wish to pay me a visit, you are most certainly welcome to." She finished off her cake and sat back in her seat, sipping at her tea, her gaze still as yet glued to Irene. "I dare say that would be rather irritating to have people constantly outside your door. And undoubtedly a few people wishing to take part in the activities within." Of course she herself was extremely curious about witnessing such a thing, but she was not quite the type to just outright ask. After all, sometimes an audience made things awkward, others made it more enjoyable. So she would simply wait and see if Irene ever gave her an invitation on the matter.

That sealed it, her comment about about being two parts. Now Irene was determined to ensure those two halves came together at some point - no pun intended, even if it was a delicious one. There was no need for a reply to such a comment though, so she simply smiled, a promise that they would indeed form one whole, eventually.

"Please do. And I may just take you up on that offer." Whilst Helena's gaze was on her she watched her sit back, her eyes roving up and down for just a moment in enjoyment. Really, she was a wonder. As beautiful and intelligent as Irene was, which, to blow her own trumpet, was a very rare occurrence. "Oh, no doubt there would be many. Tell me..." she paused, a slight smirk spreading across her face "would you be one of them?" Taking a sip of her tea she also sat back, one eyebrow raised, awaiting a reply with more interest than usual.

At Irene's question, Helena couldn't help but smirk mysteriously. Oh the various ways she could respond to such a scintillating question. It was difficult to choose because the various responses that came to mind would undoubtedly pique interest. It was just a question of which particular interest she wished to pique. But in the end, she went with the direct response, for she was never one to dance around things if she really wanted what was at the center of it. And what she wanted now was Irene. "I confess I would be wanting to be inside participating."

A mysterious glint passed through her eyes to match the smirk on her face. She saw the interest Irene had and she brushed a hand through her hair, partly to tease The Woman and partly because she had a tendency to play with her hair sometimes. Helena also had a feeling that Irene would appreciate the directness. After all, Helena was no shrinking violet when it came to what she wanted, and it was just best that both women held a common knowledge of what the other wanted.

Watching Helena's reaction to her query was wonderful. She could almost see the cogs turning, the various possible answers at the tip of her tongue. She was certain, however, from the look on Ms Wells face, that all those possibilities would have one thing in common - they would all be positive. They would all confirm her glorious suspicions, that Helena was fascinated by what Irene did.

And of course The Woman was right. If there was one thing she counted herself infallible on, it was the reaction people had to her art. It might take a minute or two, but without any verbal confirmation she would always know. Smirking back at Helena she nodded slightly, the gleam in her eyes reflecting that in Irene's own. "I had hoped as much, I will also confess."

Finishing her tea, she glanced at the clock and sighed slightly. "Unfortunately, my dear Ms Wells, I think we shall have to continue this vein of thought some other time. But I promise that when you wish, you can join me behind the door, as it were" she finished with a sensual smile.

With Irene's response, Helena only found herself even more intrigued about this than she had been before. Of course she would be a bit out of her element the first time around, but surprising people in the bedroom was not knew to the Victorian woman. Oh she'd surprised many of her lovers before with what she did behind closed doors, but this particular lifestyle was not one she was privy to.

At the mention of time, Helena glanced over at the clock, having completely lost track of it herself. At the promise of joining Irene behind the door, Helena smiled sensually back at Irene and leaned forward. "That is a promise I shall definitely see come to pass." She let her gaze linger over Irene for a few moments before she finished off her own tea. "Thank you again for the tea. This was a most...enchanting encounter." The pause was deliberate as was her word choice.

"I am glad. And will hold you to it." Standing, still directing a sensuous smile at Helena, she looked her up and down for a split second before picking up her handbag. Putting enough notes on the table to cover both their snacks, she leaned down to kiss Helena on the cheek, lingering a moment longer than necessary.

"You're more than welcome. And enchanting is definitely a good word for it....." she trailed off slightly, the alluring smile only intensifying, before continuing "Most definitely. I shall look forward to repeating it soon."

Watching Irene rise, Helena also allowed her gaze to run up and down the other woman. That promise was indeed so very tempting, and Helena simply couldn't wait for it to come to pass. As Irene kissed her cheek, Helena kissed hers back, her eyes closing briefly. Oh she savored that touch. It truly was amazing how many things one took for granted. Helena had so taken her sense of touch for granted, then to be deprived of it for however long it had been was simply torture, especially when she wanted to touch someone.

Her own sensuous smile growing deeper, Helena flipped some hair over her shoulder. "I am all ready looking forward to repeating it soon," she replied, a slight quirk to one of her brows. She then stood up herself, noting the height difference between them momentarily as she invaded The Woman's personal space, though not quite close enough to touch. "As they say, until we meet again." The tone of her voice was lower, more sensual than before.

She had beautiful hair, Ms Wells, and Irene had to suppress the urge to reach up and run her hands through it, grab a handful and pull the other woman into a proper kiss. But there would be time enough for that in their next encounter, she reasoned.

Oh, well that was interesting. Helena getting that close to her, obviously aware of their proximity. It boded well for the future, certainly.

Irene simply nodded, though, not remarking on their positioning, before replying in kind "Until we meet again" and with a final, flirtatious smile, heading out the door of the cafe.

Invading people's personal space was one of Helena's habits, though she tended to limit such a thing to those she liked or wished to leave an impression on. And she had done just that with Irene. It left them both with a good foresight of what their next encounter would hold.

Helena watched Irene leave, a proud little smirk on her face. After a few moments of her mind drifting, Helena left the cafe and began making her way back to the complex. Perhaps things in this place would not be so bad after all. She had Claudia, and now Irene, so she considered herself lucky in the matter.

And she couldn't help but look forward to what the future held for her and one Miss Adler.
