Entry tags:char: batman/bruce wayne, char: catwoman/holly robinson, char: catwoman/selina kyle, char: robin/red robin/tim drake, char: wildcat/ted grant, creator: david lopez, creator: will pfeifer, publisher: dc comics, series: bat/cat, title: catwoman

You want Bat/Cat cuteness?
I'll GIVE you Bat/Cat cuteness. Well, mostly, sorta. Well, I'll give you the annotated history of Helena Kyle. Who is she, some may ask. Well Helena was an attempt by DC to screw with shippers like me, um, shake up Catwoman a bit. Yeah...

Once Upon a One Year Later.....

Catwoman had a baby....

and named her Helena. "Irina Dubrovna" is an alias that Selina is using, so I supposed technically it's Helena Dubrovna but hush.

Helena gets very special visitors:

See that? That is the writers teasing us.

I want the teddy bear panel blown up and framed on my wall.

The new Catwoman is Holly, whom I admittedly don't know much about aside from the fact that she is Selina's good friend and has a partner named Karon, and is also Catwoman. This scan was mostly for the bottom two panels.

Helena has cool babysitters:

Heh, loves a man in a mask. She is so her mommy's daughter.

Helena sometimes gets to go on cool adventures:

If you want the answer to that question Selina, I suggest you look over here.

Helena gets kidnapped/threatened a lot. She's practically a Robin in training. So Selina asks Bruce to come over cause she needs help...

And they come up with a plan...

Worst terrorist EVER.

But do not despair, for all is not what is seems:

Even though she and Helena were "dead," Selina was still fearful. So she went to visit Bruce one more time...

Ooh, symbolism there.

Anyways, Selina asks Bruce for one more favor...

The End.

You know, when that scan of Batman with the teddy came up, there was speculation on what kind of high tech surveillance equipment was jammed into that thing.

I do not envy any criminal or child predator who tried to mess with that kid.

Well, you'd think that, but somehow it managed to be the primary hobby of every baddy within a thirty mile radius of the crib... Again, I think it was a case of WHAT THE HECK ARE WE GONNA DO WITH THIS OYL PLOT BABY ANYWAY... UH, THREATEN IT UNTIL SHE GIVES IT UP FOR ADOPTION that I don't pin entirely on Pfeifer's head, but was still quite tiresome and hackneyed. And that's all I have to say about that lest I explode into a giant fireball of wank. ;)

I predict an absolute maximum of Ten Years before a writer or writers retcons it into her lying about little Helena being Bruce's (Like she wouldn't?) and brings her back in, barring larger continuity reboots (that we desperately need) and even in CASE of larger continuity reboots, we're still probably gonna get it.

...This also assuming that a certain figure in Whatever Happened To The Caped Crusader isn't Helena of either Earth-2 or this Helena in some form, which is a working theory of mine. If spoilers have already proved me wrong,

you really think the shadow that Bruce was talking to is Helena? I'm half expecting it to be Talia (no!no!no!) since she's conspicuously absent. I like your theory much better though.

If Batman has taught us anything about childraising (beyond kids in bright colours survive more often than you'd think) it's that genetics has bugger all to do with whether you are a child's parent or not.

Well, it's not like the characterization supports any other possibility. This is Selina. If she got pregnant, the only reason she would do anything other than roll by a Planned Parenthood with a check and some spare cash for the taxi is if the kid were Bruce's. No freaking question whatsoever.

Of course Selina giving her up for adoption makes no sense in that case, but it was the ass end of an ass storyline, while "Selina has a kid" in and of itself is not necessarily a bad thing, so I'm more inclined to judge the overarc by the latter concern than the former.

It's so sad. I mean, in some ways, it's odd that Selina would choose to have a kid in the first place, but it's heartbreaking to see her give Helena up this way.

Anyways, there needs to be more babies in Batman's life, like, now. It's just too adorable for words. Dick? You'd better be pregnant.

And Tim needs to babysit cute kids more often. It seems to cheer him up, and he needs cheering right now.

Luckily, we have The_Black_Cat's posts for precisely that scenario.

Chris Kent adores him, Helena Kyle thinks he's great, I can just see Tim setting up a babysitting service to the metahuman crowd. He'd rake in the bucks (until retcons and plot twists mean he needs to find new charges)

Plus, all those adoring eyes thinking he's infinitely cool and the bestest thing ever ... he'll finally get an idea of how Dick feels ALL THE TIME!

In a few years from now we'll have two more teenage superheroine martial arts fighters...

One will be brown haired and one will be blonde haired. Due to miraculous luck the couple who adopted Helena also adopted Spoiler's baby. I want this as a future story. It's the only way to redeem the b'aww both induced.

Bwahaha. I'm just waiting for the day when Steph and/or Selina is like "For some ridiculously complicated plot reason, I need my baby RIGHT NOW. If only I hadn't put the child up for adoption..." and then Tim and/or Bruce stares at the floor sheepishly and admits that he not only knows who adopted Stephling and/or Helena, but where the baby is right at this very moment, and yes, he goes to check in on the baby every weekmonth, while not following any sort of pattern that a villian might figure out the visiting was deliberate or the house was getting any special vigilante attention. To make sure the kid is safe and not getting raised as a supervillian or anything.

The 'being adopted by the same parents' thing, combined with Tim and Bruce not clicking to the fact that the other one knows where the babies are and checks in on them, and we have a soap opera. They could stretch it out to 6 issues of the Wacky Hijinks of Bats Who Stalk Their Children The Offspring Of Their Girlfriends.

Lian and Sin could guest star as the cool older teenage superheroine martial arts fighters who the new little heroes look up to and train with.

Okay first up: THAT is the Tim I know: "Okay, we've established the fact that my costume is red"

Anyway, thanks for the scans, I haven't seen these before but I find them very good. Have they been collected? Batman is characterised just right for me here, as a protector, not an avenger, and knows when to shut down his whole "I AM THE NIGHT!" thing. I feel sorry for Selina, now if only some writers could actually mention the baby...

Oh, and also, YES to a Batman that doesn't hunt and tear down every single person that kills a villain. This is a smart and sensible approach that Bruce would take.

Yeah, nice! :) I always thought it would have been interesting for Jack and Dana Drake to have had a child of their own, so Tim is a big brother in his own right. (If he can handle Bart, I doubt even a toddler sibling would be quite as much of a challenge, except he can't use sleeper holds on them, no matter how much he may want to)

And that panel of Batman holding the teddy bear? Priceless. I want that as an icon so badly. XDD

Batman cuddling baby! Batman holding a teddy Bear! Baby seat in the Batmobile! Timmy babysitting the child who will one day become his own Robin little Helena! Timmy gleefully juggling shurikens for Helena!

The amount of cute in this post is transcended only by the levels of WIN.

BRUCE IS THE BABY'S FATHER, DAMN IT! Not Damien the Hellbrat's! Because Talia is LYING! That is my canon and I am sticking with it.

Damn you, DC.

I'm sorry, I love the post and Batman being fascinated with the baby and totally not seeing the difference between giving a giant teddy bear and a college scholarship <33333 aw Bruce you're a huge woobie, and Bruce and Selina getting to have mature conversations and being companionable and stuff, but.

"Holly's not much younger than I was when I first slipped on the costume."
WHAT

No, even in the DCU chronology doesn't work like that. Holly is six years younger than Selina. Four years older than Dick. That puts her at around the same age as Barbara. FOR REALZ.

(Also, Tim dear, if you wanted to avoid being repeatedly told how red your costume is, you should've considered keeping some green.)

Last: HELL YEAH BAT-IMMUNITY AT WORK. ♥ Bruce knowing and deliberately ignoring that Selina killed Black Mask. ♥ ♥ ♥ Do you see, DC? When Bruce loves you, Batman lets you get away with murder. Bat-immunity I love youuuuu. :DDDDDDD

I love Batman's smile with the teddy bear. It's the smile that's all shy, like he's not sure he's doing it right because it's not the scary smile. Awww.

The end of this makes me so sad.:-(

I'm going to have that anxious little 'Mama? Mama?' in my head for the rest of the evening. Ye gods, that is SAD. I don't give DC much credit for using the old 'we put her up for adoption' ending, but I do give them credit for not doing it casually - the parting of a mother and her daughter should not be a thing done off-handedly, and this is HEARTBREAKING.
