Codes + Layouts + Tutorials + More

Community Rules

This comm is open to anyone to post codes, layouts, resources, tutorials, and requests for help and content. Of course, we do have some rules, so please read through them before jumping in; thank you!

Treat others the way you'd like to be treated. This is not a drama comm, and we expect you guys to be awesome and stay civil. If a situation gets out of hand, please contact a mod, and leave comments intact so we can accurately handle the situation.

Please tag your posts and check out the tagging guide if you have any questions!

■ Very long posts or posts formatted with your own div styling for organization should be behind a cut to save people's f-lists.

Work safe above the cut, please!

■ If posting codes, guides, etc. absolutely do not post content that you did not make. That's stealing, and it's super uncool, bro! If you are posting expanded/edited codes made by yourself using another user's coding as well, please be sure you have their permission (You do not need direct permission if they allow edits to be re-posted in their blanket rules.)
■ Do not post tutorials/links to tutorials that show people how to steal codes from other users. Again: Stealing. Not cool.
When asking for help with something, please check the help tags (help: coding, help: graphics, help: icons, help: layouts, help: other) first to see if your question has already been posted and answered to avoid duplicates.

We do not allow game ads to be posted on this comm since there are so many communities specifically for that already; if you're pimping a game as an addition to a regular post, that's fine. (OK: You post an RP code and mention in the post, oh hey, also I'm running this game! NOT OK: Posts dedicated to game promo.)

We do allow other types of community promos if they are related to RP (icon comms, other types of resource comms, etc.) Just shoot us a comment in our dropbox beforehand and we'll let you know if it's cool to post!

Hello! Long time no post, [info]rpresources. Sooooo, this morning I was tinkering in S2 Complete when I realized . . . holy f&@!ing sh!t, with some sneaky hacking, I can basically turn the archive/calendar page into a custom view. It is a ginormous pain in the butt but it's a pretty cool trick. Before I take the time to create any sort of walk-through, does anyone who isn't me actually care 😂?

RIGHT IT'S SO COOL!! Is it cheating to say I want to see someone write this up when I already know how to do it? I don't care; I want to see a write-up of this lmao.

IT'S THE FUCKING COOLEST. but also OMG SO ANNOYING WHY IS LJ-RAW DISABLED IN CUSTOM TEXT MODULES?! That's the only thing that made me hesitate, because I started and it was like "okay, here are a million caveats that mean you should probably just do this on neocities instead"
Jun. 2nd, 2018 10:54 pm (UTC)
God I hate that you can't plop lj-raw into modules. Like. So much. It's the one reason I tend to only do custom coding in them every so often for posted layouts and not like WHENEVER I GET THE CHANCE LOL.

I think if you just mention that you can't use raw and tell people that that means it either needs commented out line breaks or to have everything on one line unless you WANT a carriage return it should be p easy to follow!

It's obnoxious, though I just use a text-editor and then find/replace the line breaks out for the C&P into the journal. Still more time consuming but not necessarily a total nightmare.

But like me, this morning when I was like "wait, omg, this IS A THING":

LOL that's exactly what I do too. BUT YEAH, RIGHT? I kept meaning to do a tutorial about custom divs only being shown on certain pageviews and just never got around to it (literally my life lmfao.) SO I REALLY WANNA SEE ONE DONE LOL.

Between messing with what you can see and being able to play with the backgrounds, it's a lot of cool stuff to play with.

OK I HAVE NOT READ THIS YET but I had to comment first because I LOVE the way you set this up!! ♥
Jun. 3rd, 2018 03:59 pm (UTC)
I'm glad you haven't read yet because as always, I rushed to make it live and then realized there were some things I should probably clarify/add. BUT TY!

I'm going to try to write it up as an intelligible thing and hopefully it will actually be such a thing.
Jun. 3rd, 2018 05:08 pm (UTC)
That is so awesome!
Jun. 3rd, 2018 05:10 pm (UTC)
It's a lot of fun to play with.

Given I'm pretty sure I did it by accident once or stumbled upon it or SOMETHING cause it sounds familiar YES PLEASE
Jun. 5th, 2018 10:17 am (UTC)
aha! that makes so much freaking sense and I kind of want to say its possible with bloggish too but I'll have to experiment. Anyway THANK YOU
Jun. 5th, 2018 10:32 pm (UTC)
Once it clicks it's so "oh, duh, of course" and it's been awhile since I played in Bloggish but IIRC, it's pretty similar in structure.
Jun. 6th, 2018 08:39 am (UTC)
Exactly! I'm fairly familiar with it so I might give it a shot when I have the chance. I kind of feel that might be where I saw it... It was years ago if I did.

Or I'm imagining it which is entirely possible lol.

oh man i would've never thought of this. i've actually been sitting here trying to figure out how you'd go about it! i THINK i know how, but i would love to see your method!
Jun. 3rd, 2018 06:06 pm (UTC)
thank you!! this is really awesome
Jun. 3rd, 2018 06:08 pm (UTC)

Jun. 4th, 2018 03:08 am (UTC)
this is AMAZING thank you for your work and thank you for sharing it!
Jun. 4th, 2018 01:14 pm (UTC)
It's helpful for me to explain it to other people so I can understand it better. And enjoy it. I can't wait to see how people put it to use.
