200 — Anniversary Festival!

Happy Anniversary, Marina Nova!

The bots have been busy cleaning up the dome and setting up decorations for this momentous occasion, and by now there isn't a nook or cranny left un-pimped! Bright blue MarinaNova flags wave happily in the artificial breeze together with the colorful ribbons that have been wrapped around poles. The streets are illuminated by strings of lights and paper lanterns and each sector gate has been lovingly decorated with fragrant flower garlands.

Of course, that is far from all! There wouldn't be much of a festival without entertainment and your loving wardens have made absolutely sure that there's something for everyone!

Sector 0 Fairground: If you want to go faster, you have to scream louder! Sector 0 has been taken over by a fairground where you can find such old classics as the bumper cars, a haunted house of mirrors, a more romantic tunnel of love, a roller coaster, a classic merry-go-round and, of course, a ferris wheel.

Game Booths: Step right up! Test your skill and win a prize! Throughout the dome there's a variety of game booths, ranging from the classic ring toss and high striker to kissing booths and dunk tanks. There's also a duck pond game, balloon darts and goldfish scooping game — with mechanical goldfish, of course!

The prizes are all of the carnival variety, including but not limited to: stuffed animals, fake tattoos, cheap bracelets and necklaces, stickers, rubber reptiles, silly hats, wiggle snakes and sticky hands or other sticky things.

Performances: The other way to show your skill! There are two stages set up in the dome: the first one with sound equipment and instruments suitable for a musical performance — or perhaps just karaoke! If no one is using the stage, it will automatically play randomly selected music from a wide variety of genres. The second stage is set up to accommodate physical performances like gymnastics and when no one is performing you're treated to a projection of ball room dancers, gymnasts, modern dance, ballet and similar things!

There are also street performers scattered throughout the dome. You can watch robots juggle, eat fire, swallow swords or charm robot snakes! There's also face painting and the occasional robot dressed up as a human statue for your amusement.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. You can find classic carnival food like popcorn, cotton candy, corn dogs, funnel cakes and pizza slices, but also takoyaki, okonomiyaki, candied almonds, gyros, pirogues, egg rolls and of course snow cones and ice-cream cones. The theme has of course extended to the drink selection and you're welcome to quench your thirst with lemon shake ups, butterbeer, mead and malted milkshakes.

Enjoy!

[ Eyebrowquirk. That's your choice? ]

Haven't tried that one before... but okay. What is your opinion on puppies?

Pro. I am pro puppy. You?

Not really an animal person, to tell you the truth.

Are you telling me you're anti-puppy, because that feels wrong. Not that I actually have any pets myself. Willow had fish. They were pet-adjacent.

I wouldn't say anti-puppy... actually, recent studies have shown that keeping pets can have a positive affect on many aspects of an average persons life. Pet owners are statistically shown to be more physically fit, have better self-esteem, tended to be less lonely, were more conscientious, were more extraverted, tended to be less fearful and tended to be less preoccupied than non-owners.

Wow. Sounds like we should all get one. I could use some extra physically fit. [And maybe that less lonely thing too.]

Well... you could always get one. If that's what you want.

Probably going to pass. They also sound like a lot of work and there's that whole it makes it feel permanent thing.

Very few things are... according to the second law of thermodynamics we're all moving in a forward direction in an irreversible process where the entropy is always increasing. For something to be permanent, it would have to break the laws of physics.

...You know once I went to Halloween as a soldier and this magic thing happened and everyone became what they were dressed as. After that I kept a lot of knowledge about weapons and military jargon.

Never did go to Halloween as a scientist though. [Translation: What?]

[ Amused. ] It's really not that difficult.

Take a building, for example. Physics dictate that over time it will be worn down by the elements, eventually being unrecognizable from its original state as the entropy increases. This process cannot be reversed without altering the very state of the object and through that we prove that not only does everything strive towards high entropy, time also moves in a linear, forward motion. Kind of like an arrow that loses speed and height the further it goes.

Of course, time itself is relative but when we're talking about the second law of thermodynamics this is the approach we need to take.

Construction guy, so there's some math, but it's more wood based.

So you're used to a practical application of physics then — actually, the second law of thermodynamics is crucial to engineering, especially when it comes to transportation phenomena and aerospace engineering.

Maybe it's not so widely used in every-day construction, but it's still an important part.
