200 — Anniversary Festival!

Happy Anniversary, Marina Nova!

The bots have been busy cleaning up the dome and setting up decorations for this momentous occasion, and by now there isn't a nook or cranny left un-pimped! Bright blue MarinaNova flags wave happily in the artificial breeze together with the colorful ribbons that have been wrapped around poles. The streets are illuminated by strings of lights and paper lanterns and each sector gate has been lovingly decorated with fragrant flower garlands.

Of course, that is far from all! There wouldn't be much of a festival without entertainment and your loving wardens have made absolutely sure that there's something for everyone!

Sector 0 Fairground: If you want to go faster, you have to scream louder! Sector 0 has been taken over by a fairground where you can find such old classics as the bumper cars, a haunted house of mirrors, a more romantic tunnel of love, a roller coaster, a classic merry-go-round and, of course, a ferris wheel.

Game Booths: Step right up! Test your skill and win a prize! Throughout the dome there's a variety of game booths, ranging from the classic ring toss and high striker to kissing booths and dunk tanks. There's also a duck pond game, balloon darts and goldfish scooping game — with mechanical goldfish, of course!

The prizes are all of the carnival variety, including but not limited to: stuffed animals, fake tattoos, cheap bracelets and necklaces, stickers, rubber reptiles, silly hats, wiggle snakes and sticky hands or other sticky things.

Performances: The other way to show your skill! There are two stages set up in the dome: the first one with sound equipment and instruments suitable for a musical performance — or perhaps just karaoke! If no one is using the stage, it will automatically play randomly selected music from a wide variety of genres. The second stage is set up to accommodate physical performances like gymnastics and when no one is performing you're treated to a projection of ball room dancers, gymnasts, modern dance, ballet and similar things!

There are also street performers scattered throughout the dome. You can watch robots juggle, eat fire, swallow swords or charm robot snakes! There's also face painting and the occasional robot dressed up as a human statue for your amusement.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. You can find classic carnival food like popcorn, cotton candy, corn dogs, funnel cakes and pizza slices, but also takoyaki, okonomiyaki, candied almonds, gyros, pirogues, egg rolls and of course snow cones and ice-cream cones. The theme has of course extended to the drink selection and you're welcome to quench your thirst with lemon shake ups, butterbeer, mead and malted milkshakes.

Enjoy!

Each person has a special way of manifesting their ether weapon. I use a bow and arrow. Junior uses pistols. chaos doesn't use a weapon at all. He just uses the power.

It's an energy weapon, though. And we can infuse it with elements around us, like water, fire, lightening. We can also use it for various things like speeding up or slowing down. I have one that puts people to sleep.

...Temporarily?

[MOMO nodded.]

Every ether spell eventually wears off, unless it's a one time spell like healing someone. But if it's a spell designed to create an effect, none of those a permanent.

Huh. [She looks the girl over curiously.] So, why are you in combat?

Because I can use the ether spells to fight, too. And, with a bow and arrow as my main weapon, I'm good at providing cover fire for distanced attacks. [Being an Observational Realian gave her mad aiming skills.]

Okay, not my point. I get you can fight. I'm asking what you fight over.

Oh! [Sometimes, MOMO's Realian brain missed subtleties like that.]

We were defending ourselves from a race of beings call Gnosis back home. They're interdimensional and very hard to fight against if you can't force their physical bodies to be on the same plane as your own.

If they aren't on the same plane then how were they attacking?

They have special abilities that enable them to. But, once we found a way to pull them into our plane, we were able to defend ourselves better.

I guess that means there was no way to just keep them on theirs?

We haven't found one, no. At best, we seal an area of space off from access, leaving it to them, and retreat. But, there are those who don't leave those areas sealed and try to reopen them. That always unleashes a new wave of attacks from the Gnosis.

Well that...sucks. [Eloquent as always.]

It's also kind of heavy talk for a festival, isn't it?

It is. But it's part of our lives, so I'm used to it.

Well, [she waves a hand around.] this is part of our lives now. [Weird. Not...the worst thing, but weird.]

True. It is.

It's okay, though. There could be worse things.

There definitely could be. [And are.] I think I'm going to see if I can find one of the better things. See you around though.

Sure! Have fun. [MOMO smiled again and nodded, unable to give a wave or anything around her giant stuffed bunny. But she gave a little bow before heading off instead.]
