200 — Anniversary Festival!

Happy Anniversary, Marina Nova!

The bots have been busy cleaning up the dome and setting up decorations for this momentous occasion, and by now there isn't a nook or cranny left un-pimped! Bright blue MarinaNova flags wave happily in the artificial breeze together with the colorful ribbons that have been wrapped around poles. The streets are illuminated by strings of lights and paper lanterns and each sector gate has been lovingly decorated with fragrant flower garlands.

Of course, that is far from all! There wouldn't be much of a festival without entertainment and your loving wardens have made absolutely sure that there's something for everyone!

Sector 0 Fairground: If you want to go faster, you have to scream louder! Sector 0 has been taken over by a fairground where you can find such old classics as the bumper cars, a haunted house of mirrors, a more romantic tunnel of love, a roller coaster, a classic merry-go-round and, of course, a ferris wheel.

Game Booths: Step right up! Test your skill and win a prize! Throughout the dome there's a variety of game booths, ranging from the classic ring toss and high striker to kissing booths and dunk tanks. There's also a duck pond game, balloon darts and goldfish scooping game — with mechanical goldfish, of course!

The prizes are all of the carnival variety, including but not limited to: stuffed animals, fake tattoos, cheap bracelets and necklaces, stickers, rubber reptiles, silly hats, wiggle snakes and sticky hands or other sticky things.

Performances: The other way to show your skill! There are two stages set up in the dome: the first one with sound equipment and instruments suitable for a musical performance — or perhaps just karaoke! If no one is using the stage, it will automatically play randomly selected music from a wide variety of genres. The second stage is set up to accommodate physical performances like gymnastics and when no one is performing you're treated to a projection of ball room dancers, gymnasts, modern dance, ballet and similar things!

There are also street performers scattered throughout the dome. You can watch robots juggle, eat fire, swallow swords or charm robot snakes! There's also face painting and the occasional robot dressed up as a human statue for your amusement.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. You can find classic carnival food like popcorn, cotton candy, corn dogs, funnel cakes and pizza slices, but also takoyaki, okonomiyaki, candied almonds, gyros, pirogues, egg rolls and of course snow cones and ice-cream cones. The theme has of course extended to the drink selection and you're welcome to quench your thirst with lemon shake ups, butterbeer, mead and malted milkshakes.

Enjoy!

[It wasn't that she purposely hid things about the world she came from. But Richie had a point. She didn't talk much unless it happened to come up in conversation.]

Well...what did you want to know?

Huh...I don't know. Anything really. Our worlds are a lot alike, but there's so much stuff that's different. Our timelines don't even match up. [He's kind of fascinated by alternate universes.]

What's the League like in your world?

[The League, huh?]

They hide directly in front of the cameras, for one.

Seriously, the paparazzi are everywhere. And that goes for the tabloids, too.

Man. They're in the news a lot back home, but they've got this WatchTower up in space. If they don't want to deal with the press, they just don't stick around.

[Which is kind of interesting. The superheroes tend to deal with threats and the press more separately than as a group.]

...oh, yeah, I remember hearing about that. [Some very, very interesting things happened up there, according to Wally.] Even Dad never told me about that thing.

I'm not sure they have a choice, honestly. If they dodge the press, then the public thinks they're hiding something. So they try to be as open to the public as they can.

[Richie agrees with her but a thought comes to him that makes him chuckle.] I think since everyone thinks Batman is in charge they stop asking questions. I mean, who asks Batman what he gets up to at night? You speculate and come up with crazy theories, you don't go right out and ask him.

Actually, Superman's the head of the League. I think.

[He was the most prominent public figure, from what she had always been able to tell.]

And I could ask him. If I really wanted to. [If she were still back home.]

Nah, not Superman. [He really admires him--to the point of stupid fanboy behavior--but he never came across as the head of the League except for maybe at press conferences.] In my opinion? It's Martian Manhunter and Batman together. They seem to be the ones with it all under control.

And you are a far braver soul than I. I was scared to even touch anything when I was in the BatCave, let alone ask questions. Wasn't allowed to touch things on the WatchTower either.

[He laughs and waving a hand.] No! Okay yeah we ate all of the Flash's pizza in the fridge, but they left us there for hours. We deserved something.

And then--[He cuts himself off because wow it just hit him what he was about to talk about. Discussing Brainiac that easily, so offhandedly...something is definitely wrong with him.] ...Let's just say that the WatchTower processors are awesome for downloading mp3s.

Nice.

[She approves. Though there is a moment when Richie abruptly cuts himself off, and she has no idea why. But then he continues on, and she decides not to ask just yet.]

I'll take your word on that. Haven't been up there yet, remember?

[Thank you Zee for not pointing that out.]

You will one day. [Since Richie still believes they will manage to get out of here some day. He's not giving up trying to figure it out.] Now Atlantis is that place I wonder if we'll ever be able to visit.

[You're welcome.]

Yeah, I know.

[Particularly because people from the future showed up and told her.]

I don't know about that. No offense to Aqualad, but I think I might've had my fill of underwater life by now.

[Richie grins.] The way I see, if I'm going to be stuck in an underwater prison, then I should at least get to see Atlantis once. Just think about all the technology they have there that's different from ours.

You know me so well. [He laughs back.] Seriously the sweet technology--and amazing people [he adds with a wink right at her]--are about the only things that make this place worth sticking around in.

Well. And the food. Because it's free.

[It was true; she really did know him pretty well. Which is what made it hard sometimes; even when he winked at her, knowing he was most likely just playing, there was a fleeting moment where she shifted awkwardly in place, glancing away.]

[But, no, now wasn't the time for that. This was supposed to be a fun day, and she had certain elements of fun in mind. With all her friends.]

Yet still no motorcycle. [Light joking.] I agree about the people, though. They're the best part of this whole underwater mess.

[Because she never would've met you, Richie, if she hadn't been "arrested".]

[What was that? Something just happened, but...Richie isn't sure what. He wants to think he just imagined it, but... Maybe he's looking into it too much. Maybe she was thinking about something uncomfortable. So Richie decides to up to the teasing.]

People and tech. The best things you can have. And we could build a motorcycle. Or a rocket-powered scooter. Those are fun. I'd even let you drive.

[info]notbabymagic
2013-01-29 03:55 am UTC (link)
[Yeah, upping the teasing would work in most situations. Not this one. She tries to focus on the motorcycle part of the conversation, rather than the tone he was using. Did he even realize?]

Of course you'll let me drive. Bet I'm a better driver than you are, even. [Despite being...what...two years younger? And nowhere close to legal driving age. Whoops?]

[Richie doesn't because to him it's nothing serious. It's something he's done for years to seem just as normal as the rest of the guys, to the point he doesn't even notice most half of the time. He laughs.]

You're probably right. You wouldn't believe how many times I crashed my scooter back home. [Of course half the time he was avoiding a rampaging bang baby, but hey.] I'm better off in the air.

[Unfortunately, she was noticing enough for the both of them.]

So it's a plan.

You'll take to the air, and I'll cover the streets. Together, we shall leave no part of this dome unscorch-marked. [Given their mutual explosive histories...there was actually a chance of this happening.]

[He's only noticing how strange she's acting, and wondering if he's seeing more than there is.]

We gotta leave footprints on the dome for that. Dance a tango on the glass just for kicks.

[And he drifts a bit in his own head for a moment.] Oh hey, anti-grave or suction boots would be cool...

[She laughs at this, though it comes out a bit weaker than usual.]

You do know I can fly, right? I wouldn't need boots.

Besides, too cluncky. You could never dance a proper tango in a pair of those things.

2013-01-29 04:39 am UTC (link)
I was talking about for me. [Since you know, he can't fly, Zatanna.] And anti-gravity boots aren't clunky. Not when you build them right. Anti-gravy is all about removing gravity which is what affects our bodies' weight, so you'll move a lot easier even with them on.

[Hey, way to doubt her abilities. She could easily levitate them both if he asked. But since he's obviously not going to...have fun with your gaudy footware.]

That, I'd have to see for myself.
