200 — Anniversary Festival!

Happy Anniversary, Marina Nova!

The bots have been busy cleaning up the dome and setting up decorations for this momentous occasion, and by now there isn't a nook or cranny left un-pimped! Bright blue MarinaNova flags wave happily in the artificial breeze together with the colorful ribbons that have been wrapped around poles. The streets are illuminated by strings of lights and paper lanterns and each sector gate has been lovingly decorated with fragrant flower garlands.

Of course, that is far from all! There wouldn't be much of a festival without entertainment and your loving wardens have made absolutely sure that there's something for everyone!

Sector 0 Fairground: If you want to go faster, you have to scream louder! Sector 0 has been taken over by a fairground where you can find such old classics as the bumper cars, a haunted house of mirrors, a more romantic tunnel of love, a roller coaster, a classic merry-go-round and, of course, a ferris wheel.

Game Booths: Step right up! Test your skill and win a prize! Throughout the dome there's a variety of game booths, ranging from the classic ring toss and high striker to kissing booths and dunk tanks. There's also a duck pond game, balloon darts and goldfish scooping game — with mechanical goldfish, of course!

The prizes are all of the carnival variety, including but not limited to: stuffed animals, fake tattoos, cheap bracelets and necklaces, stickers, rubber reptiles, silly hats, wiggle snakes and sticky hands or other sticky things.

Performances: The other way to show your skill! There are two stages set up in the dome: the first one with sound equipment and instruments suitable for a musical performance — or perhaps just karaoke! If no one is using the stage, it will automatically play randomly selected music from a wide variety of genres. The second stage is set up to accommodate physical performances like gymnastics and when no one is performing you're treated to a projection of ball room dancers, gymnasts, modern dance, ballet and similar things!

There are also street performers scattered throughout the dome. You can watch robots juggle, eat fire, swallow swords or charm robot snakes! There's also face painting and the occasional robot dressed up as a human statue for your amusement.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. You can find classic carnival food like popcorn, cotton candy, corn dogs, funnel cakes and pizza slices, but also takoyaki, okonomiyaki, candied almonds, gyros, pirogues, egg rolls and of course snow cones and ice-cream cones. The theme has of course extended to the drink selection and you're welcome to quench your thirst with lemon shake ups, butterbeer, mead and malted milkshakes.

Enjoy!

That's, uhm... that's fine, actually. I don't mind. [ So much better this way. No need to get personal. ]

Sorry, I didn't mean to pry. You may have noticed I'm a bit of a stickler for being polite. [A smile to offset any inadvertent awkwardness.]

I did pick up on that, yeah. [ Smile. ] I don't mind keeping this on a professional level. There's no reason to get personal just for the sake of doing it, is there? [ This does not mean it should be avoided, of course. ]

INo, I suppose there isn't. Although in my defense meeting at a ring toss booth isn't exactly the hight of professional.

Underwater prisons aren't exactly common places for a conference either. [ Wry smile. ] But you're right, this isn't really the time for it.

And yet here we are. At least they don't keep us in cells. I suppose that's something. I heard there's even a spa?

Spa, arcade, ice skating rink... I take it you've seen the beach already? It's hard to miss.

The bit about the skating rink is new. It'll be a few days before I'm able to properly explore, I'm afraid, since apparently part of my punishment for rule breaking is to avoid entertainment establishments. I'll do my best to pretend I'm staying away because of the absurdity of it all.

[ A frown of sympathy. That's harsh. ] Could've been worse, I guess... what do they count as "entertainment establishments" anyway?

Oh, it certainly could. [He could be stuck organizing some stupid sporting event the way Jack is.] They mentioned bars, as well as an arcade and a cinema which, again, seem like exceptionally odd things to include in a prison. Anyways its only for a few days.

I'm sure you can think of something to occupy yourself with in that case, especially if they don't count the library as entertainment. [ Which makes sense in a depressing kind of way. ]

They don't? Thank goodness, I was getting sick of reorganizing everything in the flat over and over for entertainment. [As if he doesn't love that sort of thing.]

[ Not sure if that's sarcasm or not, but alright. ] I'd assume they don't... and you definitely won't run out of something to do there. The books change every three days or so.

[Unfortunately it's not. He really does enjoy that sort of thing.] Really? That seems like a lot of work. Is it a small space, or do they just like keeping us on our toes?

[ Hey, there's no judging here. It's not like he doesn't have his own slightly OCD habits or anything. ]

Actually, the contents change automatically. If you keep a book for longer than three days, it turns blank. [ May have tested this, despite not needing to. ] I'm not sure why this is, unless they're promoting faster reading habits.

Or prevent information gathering I suppose, but it does seem like an odd way to go about doing that.

There isn't a lot of information to gather, anyway... I mean, of course there's information. It's a library. Just nothing that could help us find a way out of here. For instance, there's no history section at all.

So we have no way of knowing what time we're in. Or where we are. That's unfortunately predictable.

They've certainly thought this through. [ Heh. ] Of course, that doesn't mean the information doesn't exist somewhere. It's just a matter of finding it.
