200 — Anniversary Festival!

Happy Anniversary, Marina Nova!

The bots have been busy cleaning up the dome and setting up decorations for this momentous occasion, and by now there isn't a nook or cranny left un-pimped! Bright blue MarinaNova flags wave happily in the artificial breeze together with the colorful ribbons that have been wrapped around poles. The streets are illuminated by strings of lights and paper lanterns and each sector gate has been lovingly decorated with fragrant flower garlands.

Of course, that is far from all! There wouldn't be much of a festival without entertainment and your loving wardens have made absolutely sure that there's something for everyone!

Sector 0 Fairground: If you want to go faster, you have to scream louder! Sector 0 has been taken over by a fairground where you can find such old classics as the bumper cars, a haunted house of mirrors, a more romantic tunnel of love, a roller coaster, a classic merry-go-round and, of course, a ferris wheel.

Game Booths: Step right up! Test your skill and win a prize! Throughout the dome there's a variety of game booths, ranging from the classic ring toss and high striker to kissing booths and dunk tanks. There's also a duck pond game, balloon darts and goldfish scooping game — with mechanical goldfish, of course!

The prizes are all of the carnival variety, including but not limited to: stuffed animals, fake tattoos, cheap bracelets and necklaces, stickers, rubber reptiles, silly hats, wiggle snakes and sticky hands or other sticky things.

Performances: The other way to show your skill! There are two stages set up in the dome: the first one with sound equipment and instruments suitable for a musical performance — or perhaps just karaoke! If no one is using the stage, it will automatically play randomly selected music from a wide variety of genres. The second stage is set up to accommodate physical performances like gymnastics and when no one is performing you're treated to a projection of ball room dancers, gymnasts, modern dance, ballet and similar things!

There are also street performers scattered throughout the dome. You can watch robots juggle, eat fire, swallow swords or charm robot snakes! There's also face painting and the occasional robot dressed up as a human statue for your amusement.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. You can find classic carnival food like popcorn, cotton candy, corn dogs, funnel cakes and pizza slices, but also takoyaki, okonomiyaki, candied almonds, gyros, pirogues, egg rolls and of course snow cones and ice-cream cones. The theme has of course extended to the drink selection and you're welcome to quench your thirst with lemon shake ups, butterbeer, mead and malted milkshakes.

Enjoy!

That was a good performance. [It could be real, but stayed similar to fake magic humans employed.]

I had some pretty good help.

[Credit where credit's due, after all.]

Of course. Performance usually requires it. I should congratulate them as well.

I think the others already ran off soon as they had the chance, but Robin Jr's still here.

Eager to enjoy the rest of the festival?

Or change out of their costumes.

[But she didn't doubt they all had other plans to attend to. So did she, once she made it back to her apartment for a much-deserved hot shower.]

I suppose that would be part of it, though they were eye-catching.

[She's so glad you said that, Yvaine.]

That was the point.

What about you? Having fun?

Yes. I'd never been to a carnival before.

Fortunately for you, this one's almost as good as the real thing.

It seems there must always be catch to good things. Then I'm grateful I can enjoy it.

No catch specifically this time. I mean aside from the whole still-in-prison part.

But I've definitely been to better ones back home.

More rides, yeah. And worse food. [But she says "worse" in a way that somehow implies it as actually "better". Teenagers]

What kinds of rides? [She is very interested in human celebrations.]

[She tries to think back to all the ones she was never allowed to go on when she was younger but most likely did anyway.]

There was the Gravitron. It spun around really really fast. And this other one that was kinda similar, except instead of being inside a giant stop, you were strapped to these outdoor cages and spun around vertically. And the giant swings. And that one ship that rocked back and forth so high, you were practically upside-down!

Oh! And the free-fall rides. Can't forget those.

All dizzying kinds of rides! They do sound a little more exciting.

Well, the dizzying ones are the best.

[As long as you were with friends, and not a date. Though, for some people, it could depend on the date.]

It's an old tradition back home. You go on as many of the rides as you can without getting sick. First person that does, loses.

I see, though it's not my style of fun. [It isn't surprising, though. She's seen humans do similar things many times.]

[Yvaine didn't really seem the type, anyway; Zatanna wasn't particularly surprised.]

Then what is?

[She hadn't had much chance to actually do things. She could watch people, planets, speak with her family, but not do much.] Exploring, socializing. [The first is what she'd wanted to do, the second is what she was capable of doing here.] New experiences.

I did learn bowling here with a new friend. [And had her first alcoholic drink at Merlotte's opening!]
