200 — Anniversary Festival!

Happy Anniversary, Marina Nova!

The bots have been busy cleaning up the dome and setting up decorations for this momentous occasion, and by now there isn't a nook or cranny left un-pimped! Bright blue MarinaNova flags wave happily in the artificial breeze together with the colorful ribbons that have been wrapped around poles. The streets are illuminated by strings of lights and paper lanterns and each sector gate has been lovingly decorated with fragrant flower garlands.

Of course, that is far from all! There wouldn't be much of a festival without entertainment and your loving wardens have made absolutely sure that there's something for everyone!

Sector 0 Fairground: If you want to go faster, you have to scream louder! Sector 0 has been taken over by a fairground where you can find such old classics as the bumper cars, a haunted house of mirrors, a more romantic tunnel of love, a roller coaster, a classic merry-go-round and, of course, a ferris wheel.

Game Booths: Step right up! Test your skill and win a prize! Throughout the dome there's a variety of game booths, ranging from the classic ring toss and high striker to kissing booths and dunk tanks. There's also a duck pond game, balloon darts and goldfish scooping game — with mechanical goldfish, of course!

The prizes are all of the carnival variety, including but not limited to: stuffed animals, fake tattoos, cheap bracelets and necklaces, stickers, rubber reptiles, silly hats, wiggle snakes and sticky hands or other sticky things.

Performances: The other way to show your skill! There are two stages set up in the dome: the first one with sound equipment and instruments suitable for a musical performance — or perhaps just karaoke! If no one is using the stage, it will automatically play randomly selected music from a wide variety of genres. The second stage is set up to accommodate physical performances like gymnastics and when no one is performing you're treated to a projection of ball room dancers, gymnasts, modern dance, ballet and similar things!

There are also street performers scattered throughout the dome. You can watch robots juggle, eat fire, swallow swords or charm robot snakes! There's also face painting and the occasional robot dressed up as a human statue for your amusement.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. You can find classic carnival food like popcorn, cotton candy, corn dogs, funnel cakes and pizza slices, but also takoyaki, okonomiyaki, candied almonds, gyros, pirogues, egg rolls and of course snow cones and ice-cream cones. The theme has of course extended to the drink selection and you're welcome to quench your thirst with lemon shake ups, butterbeer, mead and malted milkshakes.

Enjoy!

[ a part of him knows that the whys will eventually come, but for now he is in no hurry to get to them. ]

An hour. I can only hope to be bypassed in favor of the kissing booths. [ it would give him time to finish this book— and he doesn't consider it to be an unfounded hope, given how enjoyable he has come to recognize the kissing booths to be. he could definitely use another kiss. ... not from reid, though. ]

That's not too bad then. [ Could've been worse, at least. And here is the moment we've all been waiting for: ] Why? I mean, you must've done something... say what you will about our wardens, but they don't seem to do things unprovoked.

There was a disturbance in Sector 6 recently; those noted to be in the sector during the day of the incident were questioned and punished.

[ phrased neatly and open ended, because the wardens still have not put forth proof that it was, in part, his hand that slew the foul creatures— but the unspoken sentiment is that he thinks reid can make an educated guess as to what happened. ]

Oh. [ Oh yes, he's quite capable of putting together the pieces himself. Not just about whether or not Piter had anything to do with it, but also the fact that the wardens didn't know who did it. ]

What were you doing in there?

Admiring our wildlife. Have you had the pleasure? [ a smile creeps onto his face behind the book. reid can deduce his involvement; there's little use hiding, but creative phrasing here and there never hurts. it's all practically a joke to him, insignificant. blood on his hands is nothing new. ]

No... not yet. I've been meaning to take a closer look. [ That might be a bit of a lie but it doesn't matter much. He's too busy reading between the lines to keep the curiosity concealed. ] I'm familiar with the creatures that breached security a while back, but uhm... what else did you see in there?

Have you, now? [ he crosses his legs idly, knee over knee. ] The flora is rather extraordinary, considering where it's been cultivated. [ in a dome under the ocean, that is. ] Quite the project for our dear wardens to have undertaken, to be sure.

Agreed... this whole place is pretty remarkable, from an engineering standpoint. [ And everything else, really. Biologically, psychologically... it's impressive what they're doing, he'd just rather not be in the middle of it. ] Any other fauna?

A plethora of oddities, mainly hybrids of a similar nature to "hyena-wasps." I do believe I bore witness to, ah... [ he pauses to think of how to most precisely phrase it. ] The impressive lovechild of a hummingbird and an elephant. There was something milling about, as well, that looked to be nearly nine feet high, though I had no clear view of it.

[ He nods, thankful for the information. That description though... browfurrow. ] That is impressive.

Hey, uhm... would you mind if we met up sometime soon so I can write this down? This isn't exactly the time and place for it.

[ he has to think over such a suggestion for a moment. it's a risk, to be sure, but by now, considering all the other times they've been alone, it doesn't concern him terribly. he will practice the same caution as always, of course— but there is little else left for reid to see in him or uncover, and he has hidden it all well. ]

You'll need to supply a time and place, then. [ another brief pause. ] Perhaps it will give me a chance to brush up on English speech. After I tell you what you wish to hear, of course— broken, butchered descriptions will not do at all.

[ to be entirely frank, he looks forward to whatever reid chooses to ask. for him, it is, without a doubt, an entertaining (and sometimes dangerous) game that they play. ]

[ A smile twists his mouth, pleased and perhaps even a bit apologetic. It is a dangerous game they play and he can't deny that he's full of ulterior motives, but that's not all there is to it. As dangerous as it is, he genuinely enjoys talking to Piter. They move the same way and that is hard to find. ]

Alright. I'll, uh... I'll keep in touch. [ A nod to confirm and then he shifts his weight. ] I should get going... let you get back to the book.

It's meant more to dissuade traffic than anything. [ he smiles, and there is just a hint of bitterness in it. ] Minds like ours do not belong to caged animals. We do not dance on command.

[ everyone has ulterior motives, but reid's, transparent though they may seem to piter, are also so terribly intriguing and interesting to test. of course, piter's motives are similar— he is just as set on figuring reid out as reid is in return, and wary as he is of the profiler, he does feel the occasional twinge of strange fondness for him. human sentimentality can be so very grotesque. ]

[ And like every other time Piter compares the two of them, Reid feels a jolt of gratification rather than the aversion that should be there. Always looking for approval and to find it in a man that is older and just as intelligent as he is — if not more so — is nothing short of amazing.

Dangerous, yes, but still amazing. ]

Clever... and I have to agree. [ Validation indeed. ] Good luck on discouraging passer-bys then.
