200 — Anniversary Festival!

Happy Anniversary, Marina Nova!

The bots have been busy cleaning up the dome and setting up decorations for this momentous occasion, and by now there isn't a nook or cranny left un-pimped! Bright blue MarinaNova flags wave happily in the artificial breeze together with the colorful ribbons that have been wrapped around poles. The streets are illuminated by strings of lights and paper lanterns and each sector gate has been lovingly decorated with fragrant flower garlands.

Of course, that is far from all! There wouldn't be much of a festival without entertainment and your loving wardens have made absolutely sure that there's something for everyone!

Sector 0 Fairground: If you want to go faster, you have to scream louder! Sector 0 has been taken over by a fairground where you can find such old classics as the bumper cars, a haunted house of mirrors, a more romantic tunnel of love, a roller coaster, a classic merry-go-round and, of course, a ferris wheel.

Game Booths: Step right up! Test your skill and win a prize! Throughout the dome there's a variety of game booths, ranging from the classic ring toss and high striker to kissing booths and dunk tanks. There's also a duck pond game, balloon darts and goldfish scooping game — with mechanical goldfish, of course!

The prizes are all of the carnival variety, including but not limited to: stuffed animals, fake tattoos, cheap bracelets and necklaces, stickers, rubber reptiles, silly hats, wiggle snakes and sticky hands or other sticky things.

Performances: The other way to show your skill! There are two stages set up in the dome: the first one with sound equipment and instruments suitable for a musical performance — or perhaps just karaoke! If no one is using the stage, it will automatically play randomly selected music from a wide variety of genres. The second stage is set up to accommodate physical performances like gymnastics and when no one is performing you're treated to a projection of ball room dancers, gymnasts, modern dance, ballet and similar things!

There are also street performers scattered throughout the dome. You can watch robots juggle, eat fire, swallow swords or charm robot snakes! There's also face painting and the occasional robot dressed up as a human statue for your amusement.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. You can find classic carnival food like popcorn, cotton candy, corn dogs, funnel cakes and pizza slices, but also takoyaki, okonomiyaki, candied almonds, gyros, pirogues, egg rolls and of course snow cones and ice-cream cones. The theme has of course extended to the drink selection and you're welcome to quench your thirst with lemon shake ups, butterbeer, mead and malted milkshakes.

Enjoy!

[Cross isn't exactly a carnival person but he's here thanks to Rebecca's insistence read: withholding his nightly booty call. The games hold little interest, until he sees Tear at the shooting game. He's not unimpressed, for a normal person, as she works through the laughably easy levels and proceeds on.]

[He waits until she is having difficulty with one of the levels, and only then will she hear his amused voice overhead.]
Not bad. For an amateur.

[She's aware of someone close by, intentionally, but isn't willing to break away just yet to face them-- even when he speaks up she merely tightens her grip, nothing more until after she's taken her shot on the last little target. It's not a clean bulls-eye, but hey, at least she hits the tiny thing.

She lets her arms fall to her sides, and sets the fake gun down before looking back over her shoulder, and despite his disparaging words she can't manage the sense of irritation she used to be able to with him. Not after speaking with Rebecca. She settles for... well, a hesitant aloofness instead as she answers]

...I had a good teacher. She was an accomplished marks-woman, but I'm just not as talented or skilled. [She knows what she is good at, but there's no pride in combat abilities to begin with. She can manage with her level of skill with a gun, that's good enough and better than some others]

[Cross picks up the "gun" at the booth and glances at it with near disgust. Pitiful thing, even for a game.]

[He uses it to knock off a perfect score with hardly a glance at the board.]

You'd do better with a decent weapon.

[She watches all this-- his disgust, his casual shot-- with no discernible change in her expression, and just says plainly:]

It serves its purpose.

[A toy, that couldn't be taken by an inmate and used to harm others or create panic in a crowd like this. Not without some adjustments at least, and that would take time]

For a game. [He places the toy gun down and rubs his fingers together as if they're tainted from having touched it.] Life isn't a game.

[Focusing on the gun he'd set down instead of directing on him, her eyebrows arch precisely; </i>really</i>, for him to say that and to say it to her of all peoplewhat with barely knowing how to have fun. She can barely muster above a dry tone of voice to reply]

That'd be why I don't have much to do with toys.

[He doesn't mind the dry tone, matter of fact. Who knew she could relax enough?]

Where has this side of you been hiding, hmm? [He likes it much better.]

[She shifts her weight after a beat, folding her arms and turning her head from him, to stare at the game targets as her mouth draws tightly to prevent a biting remark.

There's a lot he doesn't see... but it goes both ways, as she recalls clearly from Rebecca]

Well-- information can change things.

Can it, now. [A touch of amusement, but not so much as to be crass. He's curious, but not enough to ask directly.]

[A shrug] She's nice. And honest.

[Seemingly out of the blue, but in truth her way of explanation]

[And now a chuckle, but a muted one. He's pleased, actually, acting as if he already knew the content of their conversation.] It takes a good woman to know another one. [Which, despite the uptight attitude, he does think Tear is. Or has the potential to be.]

[Have some staring Cross, as she looks back from the game-- utterly caught off guard and scrambling to determine if he's serious or not. He sounds it, and he was certainly complimenting Rebecca, but it's difficult to wrap her head around him not making fun of her or sliding an underlying insult, and she's at a loss of how to handle that kind of positive bluntness from him.

Eventually, she settles for a faint snort, playing at indifference while placing a hand on her hip]

...Perhaps. Or she's just so good that most everyone can see right away. One spot on call after a lifetime of bad ones doesn't hold much, after all.

It holds something. [Cross of all people understands that stuff doesn't always go ideally.]

You're even harder on yourself than you are on others.

[Another feeling he knows too well. Which is why it's no insult, just stating the truth as he sees it.]

[Though glad they've progressed past insults, she knew how to deal with those at least. This is going to take some getting used to...]

I couldn't really expect better from people otherwise, could I?

Not everyone is capable of the same things. [Regular people can't defend against Akuma, and it's not their fault. Not that weakness and ineptitude should be in any way tolerated.]

Does that mean they should be content where they are, not bother to try for better? [It's the effort that matters. If they try sincerely but fail, then they've still become better]

It means you can't demand more than they can give. [He shrugs.] Sometimes it's better to wait.

[Her mouth twitches down into a frown, but she remembers what Rebecca said about Cross being just the way he is-- people not helping being the way they are. It always sounded like a cop out to her, and still does, a bit... so she can either remain annoyed by it or try to simply accept it]

[She decides on the latter with a nod]

[Hm. The girl shows remarkable thought about her reaction, which is frankly new to him. While he never thought her stupid, far from it, he'd always found her responses lacking. Reactionary. Believe it or not he does pay some manner of attention to these things.]

Rebecca must make a better argument than even I gave her credit for.
