200 — Anniversary Festival!

Happy Anniversary, Marina Nova!

The bots have been busy cleaning up the dome and setting up decorations for this momentous occasion, and by now there isn't a nook or cranny left un-pimped! Bright blue MarinaNova flags wave happily in the artificial breeze together with the colorful ribbons that have been wrapped around poles. The streets are illuminated by strings of lights and paper lanterns and each sector gate has been lovingly decorated with fragrant flower garlands.

Of course, that is far from all! There wouldn't be much of a festival without entertainment and your loving wardens have made absolutely sure that there's something for everyone!

Sector 0 Fairground: If you want to go faster, you have to scream louder! Sector 0 has been taken over by a fairground where you can find such old classics as the bumper cars, a haunted house of mirrors, a more romantic tunnel of love, a roller coaster, a classic merry-go-round and, of course, a ferris wheel.

Game Booths: Step right up! Test your skill and win a prize! Throughout the dome there's a variety of game booths, ranging from the classic ring toss and high striker to kissing booths and dunk tanks. There's also a duck pond game, balloon darts and goldfish scooping game — with mechanical goldfish, of course!

The prizes are all of the carnival variety, including but not limited to: stuffed animals, fake tattoos, cheap bracelets and necklaces, stickers, rubber reptiles, silly hats, wiggle snakes and sticky hands or other sticky things.

Performances: The other way to show your skill! There are two stages set up in the dome: the first one with sound equipment and instruments suitable for a musical performance — or perhaps just karaoke! If no one is using the stage, it will automatically play randomly selected music from a wide variety of genres. The second stage is set up to accommodate physical performances like gymnastics and when no one is performing you're treated to a projection of ball room dancers, gymnasts, modern dance, ballet and similar things!

There are also street performers scattered throughout the dome. You can watch robots juggle, eat fire, swallow swords or charm robot snakes! There's also face painting and the occasional robot dressed up as a human statue for your amusement.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. You can find classic carnival food like popcorn, cotton candy, corn dogs, funnel cakes and pizza slices, but also takoyaki, okonomiyaki, candied almonds, gyros, pirogues, egg rolls and of course snow cones and ice-cream cones. The theme has of course extended to the drink selection and you're welcome to quench your thirst with lemon shake ups, butterbeer, mead and malted milkshakes.

Enjoy!

[ cordelia has always had an eye for how to make a buck or two, and being here, at the festival, is no different. she's looking over the game booths, scolding herself for not tapping into her vision-seeing ability as well as setting up a booth with a crystal ball and a nice box for money. ] The Magnificent Cordelia. Doesn't quite have a nice ring to it.

[ and if what she says isn't caught, she's walking around the booths, not quite game to try anything or participate. having fun is the one thing cordelia isn't sure how to have anymore. ]

Considering becoming a show mistress? [Yes, he did kind of sneak up on her.]

[ see cordelia jump. talking to oneself is a very intense kind of job. with a hand to her chest, she turns to look at eric. or look up at eric, since i have to get a height joke in here somehow. ] Jeez, where a bell!

[ she'd hit him, but she remembers his face and his inability to understand basic social functions when it comes to girls. ] It's a good thing I really didn't take the fortune telling booth thing seriously because I should've seen you coming.

[ so sorry, cordy, except probably not really. yes, most people do have to look up to eric. ]

Not really a fan of a collar for myself.

[ he's actually much more accustomed to being hit than anything. sookie basically punches him once a week at least. ] Such a shame. It's been so long since I've had my palm read.

I wish I could read them. I forgot to keep up to date with your girlfriend flower-buying saga. [ she'd take palm reading over mind-splitting headaches any day. she crosses her arms over her chest. it doesn't make her appear any taller, especially in front of goliath, but it does prepare her for some gruelling. if she can't have a love life in marina, someone else - no matter how tall or pale or quiet their footsteps may be - should. ] How did the whole girlfriend thing go? I'd offer you a palm read about that, but I'm sure picking really nice flowers or sneaking up on her and scaring her half to death would woo her just fine.

It has gone well. [He holds up his wrist, bare in the tee shirt he's wearing, to show off the blue band there.] I bought her jewelry, flew her up to the island garden where I'd set up a picnic with flowers and wine. She'd much rather I used the word 'girlfriend' than 'mine', but we're coping with each other's differences of opinion. Thank you for your advice. It did help. [He's gotten her an entire semi-private garden for the evening after all.]

[ cordelia's not quite sure what to make of the band, so she's glad that he continues on. it's nice to hear something has been working out for someone else, though. cordelia's not quite sure what to make of marina, but hearing something happy ⎯ and normal (if the band is ignored) ⎯ is making her think whether or not she had this place pinned down wrong.

and now she wishes she had been the one to snag this giant fish.
] Please tell me you have a brother and that he's here and completely available.

I have a feeling that me being successful requires more alliteration. I can't think of anything complimentary that starts with C. [ money, money, money. must be a tuesday.

cordelia smiles. it's nice to know someone's indulging her, despite how ridiculous her ideas at making a business and therefore some coin may be.
] But thanks. I'd charge you half price just for that.

... Assuming you're into fortune telling.

I-- Well, I can't either without dabbling in words that shouldn't be spoken in public. [ whether her obscene vocabulary is sufficiently broad thanks to working in a bar or being around vampires is up for debate. probably a little of both. ]

Probably some sort of law against a mind reader getting her fortune told. Too easy to call bullshit on the stuff the carnies feed you.

[ and this is why we can't have nice things, sookie. ] And why aren't you putting up a booth? Your fortune-telling would be a hell of a lot more accurate than mine. It'd be a great way to make some quick cash or whatever it is around here and mess with a few people. [ since there is nothing else to do around here. ]

Eric. [ among other reasons which include being looked down upon like she was some sort of freak all her life, but eric's the easiest one to address. ] He'd go all overprotective vamp and start glamouring people away if I even tried to set up one.

Unfortunate for business, but fortunate for you to have someone who cares about you that much. I don't know what it is with vampires and their - well, overprotectivenss. It seems to be the only common thing among all of them here.

Doesn't sound bad … Not something you say about the big successful businesses, huh? [ or she should say "booths", but this is cordelia chase. she likes to make money. ] Would you be one of those people that like that sort of thing?

I don't have a position on that in general, but I don't depend on fortune-telling myself. [If people wished to perform and others wished to believe, she wouldn't think it the best way to search for guidance, but it was their choice for dealing with things.]

I don't mind. I know some have, in the world I was. I never felt I needed it. [She'd been relied on for it, but did nothing because she couldn't. The humans would interpret whatever meaning they wanted without her speaking. Actually, she could have used such an ability after all, considering what happened shortly before her arrival here.]

I meant a beautiful girl walking around and not enjoying herself. [Yes he did just say that.] There's probably a law out there somewhere about that. I should do something about it before I get charged with criminal indifference.

I know no one would like someone as sweet as you to get charged for allowing such a criminal offense to take place. [ she smiles. she sure does love it every time she gets to run into bucky; he's sweet and charming and has one hell of a smile. flirting aside, cordelia's amused: ] It's kind of sad that that actually is a criminal offense on someone's list of crimes.

[Bucky snorts softly, but reaches out to take her hand and lay a kiss to it.] I've seen some dumber things be called crimes around here, so criminal indifference at least sounds real, don't it?

[But moving on from that.] So why are you here instead of somewhere else enjoying yourself?

[ being treated like a lady is not something cordelia is used to - nor is her being rendered speechless for even the smallest slip of time. ] Honestly? I think I just haven't found the right person to enjoy it with. What about you? I'm sure you could be winning some lady some stuffed plushie at a game. You seem like the kind of guy who would run the wardens right out of prizes. [ she smiles. ]
