200 — Anniversary Festival!

Happy Anniversary, Marina Nova!

The bots have been busy cleaning up the dome and setting up decorations for this momentous occasion, and by now there isn't a nook or cranny left un-pimped! Bright blue MarinaNova flags wave happily in the artificial breeze together with the colorful ribbons that have been wrapped around poles. The streets are illuminated by strings of lights and paper lanterns and each sector gate has been lovingly decorated with fragrant flower garlands.

Of course, that is far from all! There wouldn't be much of a festival without entertainment and your loving wardens have made absolutely sure that there's something for everyone!

Sector 0 Fairground: If you want to go faster, you have to scream louder! Sector 0 has been taken over by a fairground where you can find such old classics as the bumper cars, a haunted house of mirrors, a more romantic tunnel of love, a roller coaster, a classic merry-go-round and, of course, a ferris wheel.

Game Booths: Step right up! Test your skill and win a prize! Throughout the dome there's a variety of game booths, ranging from the classic ring toss and high striker to kissing booths and dunk tanks. There's also a duck pond game, balloon darts and goldfish scooping game — with mechanical goldfish, of course!

The prizes are all of the carnival variety, including but not limited to: stuffed animals, fake tattoos, cheap bracelets and necklaces, stickers, rubber reptiles, silly hats, wiggle snakes and sticky hands or other sticky things.

Performances: The other way to show your skill! There are two stages set up in the dome: the first one with sound equipment and instruments suitable for a musical performance — or perhaps just karaoke! If no one is using the stage, it will automatically play randomly selected music from a wide variety of genres. The second stage is set up to accommodate physical performances like gymnastics and when no one is performing you're treated to a projection of ball room dancers, gymnasts, modern dance, ballet and similar things!

There are also street performers scattered throughout the dome. You can watch robots juggle, eat fire, swallow swords or charm robot snakes! There's also face painting and the occasional robot dressed up as a human statue for your amusement.

Food: The food carts in sector 0 are now carrying food fit for the occasion. You can find classic carnival food like popcorn, cotton candy, corn dogs, funnel cakes and pizza slices, but also takoyaki, okonomiyaki, candied almonds, gyros, pirogues, egg rolls and of course snow cones and ice-cream cones. The theme has of course extended to the drink selection and you're welcome to quench your thirst with lemon shake ups, butterbeer, mead and malted milkshakes.

[ of course she's seen ric the past couple of days. maybe she's left out the part where he was a murderous vampire and then very dead at home. so maybe every time she sees him it's been kind of a punch in the gut coupled with a longing, a yearning, and the realization that she will have been losing another person. and that's where the urge to hold onto him close and hard starts.

she straightens, her jaw tightens, and she tries to blink it off, relax with a smile. (she might have failed that night going home - from stefan, and talking to sam, and learning about her future: their futures. she might have embraced him suddenly and shook that and all her tears off as something else, but related. that everything that's happened, stefan coming back... she's just glad ric's here with her.)

but right, his question. that sobers her. she pulls in a breath. ]

I stabbed Stefan the other day. He attacked Sookie when she cut herself on accident.

[It might be pathetic to mention that these days, Elena coming home in tears isn't something that surprises him. Why should it? They're stuck in this fucking dome and everything seems to go to hell on a daily basis, and people he trusts he telling him things that don't make sense. So. (That last part is why he hides so much, stays at home and pretends that maybe if he drinks enough this will all go away. Shit.) But he held onto her and let her do whatever she needed because that's all he knows how to do. Stand back and watch things happen. (Funny. He used to be so good at taking things head-on, on his own.)

And somehow in the middle of everything -- Elena's confession, Damon being a bigger idiot than usual, him getting locked in solitary for this long -- he'd forgotten Stefan. Or not forgotten so much as willingly avoided him and didn't do much to reach out. As much as Stefan is, deep down, a good guy, every time Alaric looks at him all he sees is that girl's head rolling on the floor.

He was human at one point, sure. Alaric's sometimes not sure how much of that is left. (He keeps that, all of it, to himself.)]

You what? [Why the hell is she smiling? God, how the hell does she ever smile? He's instantly ignoring the booth, by her side with a hand on her shoulder. He leans down just a hint, thinks twice of what he wants to do because he's pretty sure it'd be wrong.

There's a little glimmer of pride, though. The part of him that selfishly thinks, that's my girl.] I guess now's the time to tell you I don't regret that training.

[ it's really become more of a sardonic, humorless, worried and tight smile. it's gone by the time his hand is on her shoulder; she's turned to face him. (it's funny, how stefan can worry, caroline can worry, bonnie, everyone - and while it touches her, she can find it in herself to smile it off, pretend she's fine. with ric, it's so easy to actually accept his concern.)

even as she feels that, she reaches to touch his shoulder too - in likeness, in comfort, to calm him. she opens her mouth to tell him: that it's okay, and everyone's fine, and it's been handled - but his own comment about training does make her pause to smile. small, but genuinely this time. her head cocks slightly to the side too, because thanks for those lessons is not a normal response and elena's under the impression they both know it. ] I don't either. Eric showed up and stopped him.

[Stabbed a vampire and not a scratch on her. He knows it's not just his training; that she took and more than made it her own. This is exactly why he didn't tell Damon she was on the Defense Force. Despite every instinct telling him to worry, to coddle, to be like Damon and try to suffocate her with protection -- in the end, all that falters against how much he trusts her. He knows better than anyone that she can take care of herself.

He'd have thought Damon would know better by now. Stefan, too. Both of them. She was good with a right hook, fast and lithe. Probably another testament to his shitty parenthood that he was proud of Elena for stabbing a vampire.]

Eric?

[He pauses, almost sure he knows the name. He's heard it somewhere. From Sookie? He's only talked to her a couple of times, but he's caught that she likes Elena, that they're friends.] Sookie's okay, then?

Sookie's... [ uh, what's the word ] boyfriend. [ there, she'll settle there. ] He's a vampire. Tall, blond, infuriating? They have some sort of... blood bond. He can sense when she's in danger.

[ and she nods. ] And she's fine. [ elena remembers the scream, and stefan lunging, and wrapped her wound. ] It was just a bite. On her hand. [ but she's wordlessly concerned still. stefan and blood... stefan and fairy blood... she trusts that he doesn't want to hurt anyone, that he has the strength not to, but with klaus and... ] There's some things you should know.

[There's no hiding the quirk in his lips that is his distaste for vampires, especially ones that keep popping up everywhere. Funny. Vampire saving someone from a vampire attack. (Still, he's thankful. Ugh. Vampires. No wonder Sookie and Elena get along.)

As for bonds, he's good. He's had it up to here with sire bonds; the last thing he wants to know is there's more of them.

Stefan and blood. Human blood. Shit. (Heads, rolling across the floor.) No. Not on his watch. Not again. (Like they can stop him.)] Something tells me I should sit down for this. Can you ditch the booth for a second?

[There's a familiar weight falling over his shoulders when he sits. He knows it's going to be bad because the two of them never seem to have just casual chats outside of who's making coffee that morning.

And then it hits: a twist in the gut, a phantom pain in his chest he remembers way too well. Klaus. Like dropping a bomb.]

No. [His head drops into his hands, fingers scraping over his face. No, no, no. (Now maybe everyone at home is safe. Jeremy's safe. His kids.)] Dammit, no. You're kidding.

[It feels conspiratorial, that feeling of how totally fucked they are. Or could be, depending on Klaus's mood, or whatever he remembers. Since Damon's told him about the stabilizer thing, he's gotten that not everyone comes in the same, from the same time and place. It's random if it's anything.

The touch stills him, his hands dropping between his legs.]

[ she shakes her head; truthfully, she understands about as much as stefan's told her ] want to kill vampires. Klaus. Anyone who was in the way. [ there are tears in her eyes. ] You died, Ric. That's how you died, brainwashed, killing Klaus. She used my blood to make you a vampire strong enough to do it and so we were linked. And when I died, you died.

[And how do you react to someone tell you you're dead? Alaric listens, and blinks, and sometimes his fingers pulls so tight against the other hand that his nails leave little crescent shapes behind. He stares at his hands, doesn't even think for a second to meet her gaze.

His heart beats. He counts the pulse of blood running into his head. Doesn't even bother trying to come up with a response. A few things stick with him.

1) Murders.
2) Original witch.
3) It was you.

And it's funny, because none of that matters to him as much as her very last words. Not the fact he was dead, or a vampire (wasn't that the goddamn irony? Hadn't he been waiting for that since the moment he managed to snag Logan Fell's heart with a stake?) Like killing Klaus was the worst thing he could've ever done.

His voice cracks when he finally breaks the silence.] You die?

She walked into the middle of the road. Matt was driving by the bridge, and - [ she stops ] - Stefan saved Matt. I asked him to. And by the time he came back, I had drowned. I woke up at the hospital... Meredith had given me Damon's blood for a head injury earlier that day. [ she finally lifts her eyes back to ric's. ]

Wish he was arrogant enough he could think it would change now. It's not so much fate as much as it all seems inevitable.]
