First, I'd like to give my deepest gratitude to the defense teams, who managed to keep all of us safe during the breach. Without you, I hate to think what might have happened.
But
thinking ahead, I think we need to do something to make sure that this doesn't happen again. It's a fact that the electricity here is unstable, which means that a blackout or a brownout could easily happen again, causing the defenses to go down.
I know supplies are limited and that technology is lacking (through no fault of Tech), so here's my suggestion.
During WWI, the trenches were separated by a 'no man's land' of mines, pikes, barbed wire, etc. etc. We need to build something like this outside the walls, to keep the unfriendlies from being able to take advantage of any sort of electrical issue. Mines might be impossible, I realize, but the rest shouldn't be.
I suggest that we tear down one of the houses (there are some still unoccupied, and others with only half occupancy) and use the materials for construction of our defenses. Ten yards from the wall I would suggest we build trenches. Six feet deep. Filled with wooden pikes, sharpened on the tips. Perhaps a place for a person to stand guard, but that's not strictly necessary. The trench needs to be wide enough that a ladder stretched over it has no chance of breaching the walls. Then, for 100 yards (at least) past the trenches, we need to build our no-man's land.
If we make it so that they can't even get
to the walls, that cuts our danger significantly.
