The one item from your list that you most want to complete: [info]snape_after_dh. The deadline is looming awefully close.
Items with a deadline other than this fest: ummm... all of them, yikes.
Most fun item on your list: So far? [info]santas_lap
Item you are dreading the most/need the most encouragement on: Right now the [info]snape_after_dh

How do you start a project? I print the prompt, sit down with a notebook and simply write whatever ideas come to mind. Then I go back and organize it into some semblense of a plot and go from there.
In what conditions do you work best? Whenever the kids are reasonably quiet. Music helps, I have two playlists especially for writing. Often chatting on the IM as well seems to help for some reason.
One thing that always inspires you to create: Well, one thing that helps is I look over my favorite pics of the characters I'm writing.
One general thing you would really like to improve on: Productivity. Often, even when I have the time, I can't seem to force myself to be productive, I end up goofing off instead.
Advice and/or questions regarding the creative process that you have for the other members of the community: Never give up.

A teaser from something you've got at least partially done: Yeah, from the one I've whined about.

The one item from your list that you most want to complete: My October DD. I wasn't so keen on it until I started sketching, and suddenly it turned into this complex thing I'm really, really excited about.
Items with a deadline other than this fest: 6/10 items on my list.
Most fun item on your list: Crack art for [info]r_grayjoy (H/D and an aardvark, for no reason at all)
Item you are dreading the most/need the most encouragement on: The gift art for [info]adinkra. I've been trying to finish the same piece for three years. It hates us, precious.

How do you start a project? I stare off into space for a while until I get a vague idea, then I start sketching. I usually end up with something entirely different. ;) After that, I take a picture of my sketch, load it onto my laptop, and start drawing the real lineart over it.
In what conditions do you work best? Late at night, usually under the influence of caffeine. Occasionally while I'm supposed to be doing something else.
One thing that always inspires you to create: Daydreams mostly, and other people's fic. Occasionally, deadlines.
One general thing you would really like to improve on: I need to improve on facial angles other than direct profile. And foreshortening. *winces*
Advice and/or questions regarding the creative process that you have for the other members of the community: Anybody who can work on a schedule, please tell me how you do it! I am the worst procrastinator ever.

The one item from your list that you most want to complete: Lyv's B-day gift. She's been waiting a month now.
Items with a deadline other than this fest: My other fest fics
Most fun item on your list: The [info]phoenix_flies fic, I think. I've never written this pairing before.
Item you are dreading the most/need the most encouragement on: Harry Hols fic. I just have no clue on this fic.

How do you start a project? I just start writing. I usually don't plan anything it seems to work best that way for me and I don't know why. If I try and write out an outline of how I want the fic to go I screw it up every time.

In what conditions do you work best? It doesn't seem to matter when but I write best at the computer. I can't seem to sit down with pen and paper and try to write. the words seem to flow better, for me at least if I'm in from of the keyboard.

One thing that always inspires you to create: As strange as it sounds, I usually get my ideas while I'm on the phone with my gf. We could be talking about our kids, and suddenly I tell her, hang on a sec, I need to type something out before I forget it. Nine times out of ten I'm on the phone headset, talking with her and typing out a story at the same time. I've let more smokes burn up and coffee get cold this way than I can count.

One general thing you would really like to improve on: My punctuation and grammar skills. I hated English in school but I love to write.

Advice and/or questions regarding the creative process that you have for the other members of the community: Write? Just write as much as you can. You don't have to put everything you scribble down out on the interwebs. I really don't think it matters what you write at first, just so long as you are able to get your ideas down in a coherent pattern. Style, plot, and characterization can and will come later. I feel that, in some ways, you'll improve through practice and feedback from others. Good and bad feedback, so long as it's delivered properly, can really help. I know I have, or at least I like to think I have improved with time, but I know I still have miles to go. I think the main thing is to make certain that you, yourself, are satisfied with what you are writing. If the fic you are putting out doesn't appeal you, then how is it going to please someone else? Err.. okay sorry about that. /soapbox.

The one item from your list that you most want to complete: the priest!Snape story ... with no deadline, I'm worried that I'll neglect it and never finish it.
Items with a deadline other than this fest: slashnotsmut, holidaygen, and smut_swap
Most fun item on your list: priest!Snape, definitely
Item you are dreading the most/need the most encouragement on: all of the belated bday ficlets ... and there are so many of them ... *whimper*

How do you start a project? mmm, I work best with a vague idea of where I'm going but no concrete outline, and a killer first sentence. That last part doesn't happen nearly as often as I'd like.
In what conditions do you work best? word wars!
One thing that always inspires you to create: other than the sheer panic inspired by deadlines? umm ... no one specific thing, really. It's just a general writingly mood that I need to have.
One general thing you would really like to improve on: Plot, I'm very bad at writing plot.
Advice and/or questions regarding the creative process that you have for the other members of the community: Err ... anyone want to write something for me? I have bunnies! :D
No, seriously, I'd like advice on how other people manage to make deadlines, and how they juggle the work-life-fandom balance of things as they do so.

The one item from your list that you most want to complete: um, before I started, Legolas and the Elves of Lorien. Now it's the epic fic o'Doom, aka Lucius Malfoy and the Cauldron of Doom.
Items with a deadline other than this fest: only item on my list that has a deadline that matches this fest is the forty_or_better fic. Then 12th_night fic is due later, then the fic o'doom, then nothing else has a due date, but my friend might kill me if I don't eventually get her fic done.
Most fun item on your list:Um, tackling a plot bunny should be fun, especially if I can strangle it to keep it short. And I'm rather looking forward to the War at Hogwarts one.
Item you are dreading the most/need the most encouragement on: Legolas and the Elves of Lorien. Thanks to the wonderful[info]suemonroe I am now convinced it does not suck, but I am having trouble even convincing myself to look at it. My writing style's shifted enough away from that insane silly that it's difficult to get back into it.

How do you start a project?I start writing the fic. Idea pops into head, and I either start writing then and there, or if I'm working on another story, jot it down for later. Research gets done as I work, or I stick a note in for later.
In what conditions do you work best? When I have nothing else to do. Lately this means at work, since I have lots of downtime. Seriously, I get bored, and write down the story in my head.
One thing that always inspires you to create: Stress.
One general thing you would really like to improve on: Muse control. I'd be much happier if I knew how I was getting to where I was going.
Advice and/or questions regarding the creative process that you have for the other members of the community: Read. Seriously, read. Poetry, fiction, non-fiction, fanfiction. If you know you have trouble with writing dialogue, find an author who writes it well and study how they do it. Also, bouncing ideas off others is always helpful.

The one item from your list that you most want to complete: Harry/Percy sequel
Items with a deadline other than this fest: [info]snupin_santa fic
Most fun item on your list: Harry/Percy
Item you are dreading the most/need the most encouragement on: Snupin Santa – I have the idea and a lot of the plot, but am having a hard time sitting down to write it out.

How do you start a project? I basically come up with an idea and let it percolate for a while – creating scenes and phrases in my head. It takes me a while to actually start writing.
In what conditions do you work best? On my laptop, but disconnected from the distractions of the internet. Usually this means I'm petsitting, or, when I really need to write for a deadline, I'll go to the library.
One thing that always inspires you to create: I don't know that there's any one thing that inspires me. I get ideas and just… write. I tend to write less the more I read, so when I've got deadlines, I try not to read too much fanfiction. During the holiday exchange postings, I rarely write anything because I'm so busy reading.
One general thing you would really like to improve on: I need to stop procrastinating. I have a serious problem with that!
Advice and/or questions regarding the creative process that you have for the other members of the community: … can't think of anything. *g*

Fandom(s) you are working on for this fest: Harry Potter.
Participation: Writer for this fest; also beta & occasional RPer.

The one item from your list that you most want to complete: Lusty Month of May (and only half a year late!)
Items with a deadline other than this fest: Snupin Santa 2007 (Nov 15).
Most fun item on your list: Lupin/Girlbits!Snape, one of the first fic prompts I ever started.
Item you are dreading the most/need the most encouragement on: The 2007 Snupin Fantasy Fest piece.

How do you start a project? Usually I start by letting an idea bounce around in my head for a while, to figure out the general shape of the story and where it's going to go. Then I put some words on paper and hope I can keep it up.
In what conditions do you work best? I definitely work best in the morning, either at home in a comfy chair or at the library.
One thing that always inspires you to create: I am often inspired by poetry or a very good song lyric that could have been poetry. Sometimes they are classics, like Andrew Marvell's To His Coy Mistress, and sometimes they are friends' works, like Klynie's haiku.
One general thing you would really like to improve on: At the very end of a fic-writing process, I tend to be extremely critical. I think finishing works closer to when I first got the idea would help me see the story more objectively, and that means not percolating ideas quite so long.
Advice and/or questions regarding the creative process that you have for the other members of the community: I manage my LJ/IJ filters when I am overcommitted, which means not reading fest announcements, not reading beta requests, not reading RPG openings... because I can't let myself be tempted when I've got so much to finish already!

i'm not going to make a list of my unfinished fics -- i did so about a year ago, and there were 29 items on the list. it hasn't gotten any shorter since then; it's gotten even longer. i'm just going to focus on picking up one thing at a time and working on it.

the one item from your list that you most want to complete: candlelight -- weird orlando bloom/elijah wood lotrips/kingdom of heaven sort of crossover thing, balian (orlando bloom's character) and his servant elijah o.O i've got almost 4000 words done, and it only needs another 1500 or so to complete it. and it's been this way for over a year.

Fandom(s) you are working on for this fest: HP and one X-Files, assuming I can pull it off.
Participation: Writer (and reluctant web site builder) for this fest. I also beta occasionally and am currently a co-mod at another fest.

The one item from your list that you most want to complete: My Tom/Hermione table for [info]100quills.
Items with a deadline other than this fest: The fic for [info]luciusfqf.
Most fun item on your list: I love writing "Walking With A Ghost".
Item you are dreading the most/need the most encouragement on: Finishing my fic website.

How do you start a project? Depends on the project. Usually I start off with a general outline. Sometimes (especially with OneShots) I just start writing and see where the story takes me.
In what conditions do you work best? I write best in the evenings/at night, when it's quiet.
One thing that always inspires you to create: Listening to my favourite music. And when the ideas just won't come, I usually go for a walk in the park or the woods near here.
One general thing you would really like to improve on: My anxiety (lack of confidence) about posting or even completing something. Sometimes things just get shelved because I'm spazzing over them.
Advice and/or questions regarding the creative process that you have for the other members of the community: Hm... Question: mostly to the people who seem to write for so many prompts each week: "How do you do it, time-management-wise?"
Advice (which I should probably take, myself, sometimes *g*): Create what you want to create, and remember that this should stay a hobby, not become a chore or something that adds additional stress to your life.

The one item from your list that you most want to complete: The [info]snape_after_dh reincarnation fic. I'm really pleased with the plot so far.
Items with a deadline other than this fest: NaNoWriMo, to be written in November.
Most fun item on your list: The smut-fest for [info]the_con_cept, but I've finished that now.
Item you are dreading the most/need the most encouragement on: The fic for [info]snarry_holidays but I can't tell anyone about that since it's an anonymous exchange. I'll need a beta at some point though - anyone want to volunteer for something that have no clue about?

How do you start a project? I meditate with my muse, who sits high above my desk so he can send down happy plots.
Pic of the muse under the cut )
In what conditions do you work best? I work best in the evening but while it's still quite light, and with the door locked. My absolute best work is done when it's raining. I churn out chapters really quickly then.
One thing that always inspires you to create: Shakespeare. I have never read a Shakespeare play that has not inspired me to write something. Being in a quiet naturey place tends to help too, like the park. Not sure why though.
One general thing you would really like to improve on: My descriptions. I don't normally describe as much as I should.

Fandom(s) you are working on for this fest: Harry Potter
Participation: I'm an artist, Brit-picker and occasional beta but for this fest; a writer
The one item from your list that you most want to complete: tricky one - I have to complete all of them! OK, the fic for snarry_holidays.
Items with a deadline other than this fest:  fics for merry_smutmas, snarry_holidays, phoenix_flies, snape_after_dh and snarry_swap
Most fun item on your list:  phoenix_flies fic for a fun prompt (which is why I've completed it!)
Item you are dreading the most/need the most encouragement on:  Will probably be snarry_swap because I'll have used up my plot-bunnies by the time I get to that one... but it is an anonymous exchange so I can't actually discuss it.
How do you start a project? Depends - usually I get a vague idea, start writing it down, then find I need to go and research. Until recently, I worked alone and sent my work to a beta at the end of the process, but I have just discovered how helpful it is to try ideas out on a fellow writer first.
In what conditions do you work best? Over the weekend, when Mr Gingtertart is away and I can work undisturbed (except by the resident canines wanting to drag me out for fresh air & exercise)
One thing that always inspires you to create: walking the dogs in the countryside and watching the birds, the sky and the leaves turning colour.
One general thing you would really like to improve on: tighten up my plots, with a good hook at the start and a solid ending
Advice and/or questions regarding the creative process that you have for the other members of the community: Sometimes you write something in a hurry to meet a deadline, forcing yourself to write about a character or a plot that you don't really enjoy, and you post it, and you get ten times the feedback you ever had for fics you worked very hard on and really liked. Is this depressing or what?
A teaser from something you've got at least partially done:
I've just finished my merry_smutmas fic but again, that's for an anonymous exchange so I can't post anything from it. So here's a bit from my snape_after_dh fic.

Items with a deadline other than this fest: 2 fics for [info]snape_after_dh are due by October 31.
Most fun item on your list: Willow angst table for [info]30_somethings
Item you are dreading the most/need the most encouragement on: Hermione time turner fic. Have terrible thoughts of it being the horrible cliche that I hate.

How do you start a project?(Do you take vague notes, outline extensively, dive deep into research?) I just tend to dive in...maybe review the book or episode I'll need for the story.
In what conditions do you work best? (Time of day, the place you like to work in, the medium, for example.) Evenings. Alone and it needs to be quiet and distraction free.
One thing that always inspires you to create: (Anything. A quote, book, movie, artist, fanfiction, anything. Share with us, in hopes that we will be inspired by it as well.) Don't really know. The oddest things have inspired fics for me. Lately it's been prompts that catch my eye though.
One general thing you would really like to improve on: (Overall; doesn't have to be specific to an item on your list.)Planning fics better instead of writing first and thinking about where it's going to go later.
Advice and/or questions regarding the creative process that you have for the other members of the community: Honestly all I can say is if you enjoy it do it. Don't let lack of feedback or negative feedback discourage you. Write for yourself not everyone else.

The one item from your list that you most want to complete: Wow, just one? Well, I have several exchange fests that I'm participating in, so those take priority. So that means [info]snarry_holidays, [info]harry_holidays, [info]snarry_swap and the [info]hd_inspired MPreg fest all have to be done.
Items with a deadline other than this fest: Those mentioned above plus my [info]phoenix_flies fic.
Most fun item on your list: Mmm, prolly my [info]harry_holidays fic since I know the recipient quite well. ;)
Item you are dreading the most/need the most encouragement on: I'm not dreading it, but my [info]snarry_swap recipient is well known in Snarry circles and she makes me nervous.

How do you start a project?(Do you take vague notes, outline extensively, dive deep into research?) I get an idea and I start writing. If I flounder, I then try to plot and outline.
In what conditions do you work best? (Time of day, the place you like to work in, the medium, for example.)In front of the TV (for background noise) in the evening on on the weekends.
One thing that always inspires you to create: (Anything. A quote, book, movie, artist, fanfiction, anything. Share with us, in hopes that we will be inspired by it as well.) Just about anythiing can spark an idea for me, from a song on the radio to a billboard to a snippet of overheard conversation to a color. I watch a lot of decorating TV so their ideas can spark something for me, too.
