A NOTE ON SPORTS

Being a European, the American school system makes absolutely no sense to me. As such, nor does its high school sporting calendar. Since I want to play my characters as accurately as possible, I did a little research and compiled a list of estimated season dates and requirements so that it might be a little clearer for those who are either not American (like myself) or for those people who just don't know. :)

BASKETBALL
Season: December – Late February
Practice: Mid-November – End of season
There are typically 14 to 16 district games per team in a basketball season, with an average of two games per week (Thursday and Saturday). State tournaments (should a team be successful) are typically held during the final weekend of March.

FOOTBALL
Season: September - December (depending on ranking/performance)
Practice: August - End of season
Games are primarily played on Friday nights and are a weekly event. There are typically 10 games per team in a football season, not including play-off matches. State championships (should a team be successful) are typically held during the first week of December.

GYMNASTICS
Season: February - Early March
Practice: Continuous
Since it is a sport that requires constant attention, practices are continuous throughout the year. Sectionals and Regionals are usually held together over a two week period, typically on weekends. State championships are typically held during the first week of March.

LACROSSE
Season: Mid-March - May (sometime around Memorial Day)
Practice: End of February/Beginning of March – End of season
Games are primarily played during weekdays. There are typically 18 games per team in a lacrosse season, not including play-off matches. State championships (should a team be successful) are typically held during the first weekend of June.

SWIMMING
Season: End of October/Start of November – February/March (depending on ranking/performance)
Practice: Beginning of October – End of season
Sectionals and Regionals are usually held together over a two week period in mid to late February, with events taking place on weekends. State championships (and the season) are over by the end of March.

SOCCER
Season: Fall (August - November) or Spring (February - April) - depending on state regulations
Practice: End of July/Mid-January - End of season
There is typically one game a week, usually played on Fridays or Saturdays. The number of games per season is dependant on the size of the school district, though there is usually a minimum of 10. State championships (should a team be successful) are typically held during the last weekend of April.
NB: As the semester was not in session at the end of July, it is assumed that the Dalton soccer team play in the spring opposed to the fall.

TRACK & FIELD
Season: March - June
Practice: February – End of season
Sectionals and Regionals are usually held together over a one week period spanning the last week of May and the first week of June. State championships (and the season) are over by the first week of June.

For example, since Caleb is on both the football and the basketball teams, he should only be attending football practices right now, as the basketball season hasn't begun. This means the spots on the timetable where basketball is listed are currently free time for him until mid-November. If a character is on a team that is out of season, it's best to assume that they have that block of time free until the sport begins practising. :)

I really hope that helps a little! The calendar will be updated to accommodate this information in due course, so keep an eye on it! I'm sure the mods will let everyone know when it's been updated!

EDIT: The calendar has been updated! :)
