Community Rules

This comm is open to anyone to post codes, layouts, resources, tutorials, and requests for help and content. Of course, we do have some rules, so please read through them before jumping in; thank you!

Treat others the way you'd like to be treated. This is not a drama comm, and we expect you guys to be awesome and stay civil. If a situation gets out of hand, please contact a mod, and leave comments intact so we can accurately handle the situation.

Please tag your posts and check out the tagging guide if you have any questions!

■ Very long posts or posts formatted with your own div styling for organization should be behind a cut to save people's f-lists.

Work safe above the cut, please!

■ If posting codes, guides, etc. absolutely do not post content that you did not make. That's stealing, and it's super uncool, bro! If you are posting expanded/edited codes made by yourself using another user's coding as well, please be sure you have their permission (You do not need direct permission if they allow edits to be re-posted in their blanket rules.)
■ Do not post tutorials/links to tutorials that show people how to steal codes from other users. Again: Stealing. Not cool.
When asking for help with something, please check the help tags (help: coding, help: graphics, help: icons, help: layouts, help: other) first to see if your question has already been posted and answered to avoid duplicates.

We do not allow game ads to be posted on this comm since there are so many communities specifically for that already; if you're pimping a game as an addition to a regular post, that's fine. (OK: You post an RP code and mention in the post, oh hey, also I'm running this game! NOT OK: Posts dedicated to game promo.)

We do allow other types of community promos if they are related to RP (icon comms, other types of resource comms, etc.) Just shoot us a comment in our dropbox beforehand and we'll let you know if it's cool to post!

So after reading [info]tessismess' Flexbox tutorial for the billioneth time and finally getting it, I got some inspiration to create a character bio to post. Part of my process is to create an HTML file and work on it from there. Currently the file is hosted on Neocities and it looks and works as intended there. However, when I went to post and make sure that the code did the same on IJ, I got this mess here and I've not been able to figure out where stuff got borked. Below is the code if anyone wants to take a look at it.

codes available on dreamwidth

( code: A_SOUND_CLIP, a sound message mockup with hidden text "audio transcription" area )
( code: PENDANT, a splash page nav )
( code: PORTRAIT HALL, a simple alternating infobox/portrait code )

In other news:
(1) The nav code PYRAMID SCHEME now has two variants: a triangle pointing down and a diamond shape!
(2) I rewrote the bio code KITTIWAKE from the ground up so that it is more user friendly and has a few new features!

Hey so I'm trying to code a new layout over at [info]agathachristie. Honestly it's a bit of a disaster at the moment!

I've decided for ease to use s1 generator (lol this might be a mistake). Anyway what I'm currently struggling to do is.

1 - get the topbar you know flush against the top of the page. I think its to do with z-index but I haven't had a chance to look into that yet so halp?

2 - get the entries to appear in a grid layout of 4x4

The relevant bits of code are here

What I'm trying to code is basically this

character icon
character name
lj cut/link to the full bio/entry

Obviously that will be in entry code and I haven't coded the rest of the layout yet, I want to get the grid and topbar working but that's just a reference

So I made the layout in this journal ages ago but never really used it until now.

I've noticed that the journal names on the friends list aren't coming up. I've tried to edit .pic-poster & .ljuser but nothing seems to be fixing it.

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.... The code is here

MERRY DRAFTSMAS!
In case you missed it, for the month of December, I assembled and released a bunch of content that I hadn't publicly released before. Included in the batch were thirteen unique code designs total, including one full biosheet, 4 cast/muse lists, and a bunch of miscellaneous codes from thread toppers to playlist codes.

For live previews of how all the new codes look on insanejournal, please check out my IJ draftsmas tag.

For the codes themselves, visit the DRAFTSMAS SET tag on my dreamwidth. In-between, I also released some Eartha Kitt screencaps and a gdoc template, which you can also pick up on my DW journal. A little niche lmao sorry.

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy 2023! ♥

You can find the fixed versions of the Icon Uploader for PC and Mac on my Drive: Insanejournal Icon Uploader

You can find instructions for use on Tess' site: Icon Upload

For those wondering what was wrong: In the upload file, the URLs needed to change to HTTPS, and the flag of -k needed to be added to the call to CURL. It also required an updated version of CURL for PC

ETA: On Windows 10, you need to right-click the batch file and "Run as Administrator" for this to work. Doing so on Windows 11 will not give you the desired outcome as it will upload all of your temp images.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone'd found a way around the old ij icon uploader? I've got the files and all, but it's stopped working on PC for me a while ago. There's journalwatcher, but they can be faulty AND it uploads icons in a completely messy order, which can be annoying at times.

I've no idea what's blocking the uploader nowadays, because the program does /run/ the same as before, it just doesn't do anything.

Thank you for any help!

ETA: IT IS FIXED. NEW IJ ICON UPLOADER HERE.

A while ago, I created [info]cdjs with the purpose of connecting CDJs with other CDJs. For the past 5 or 6 years, it's been dormant but rather than outright delete the comm I wanted to know...
A. Is there even a use for it or interest in it anymore? And...
B. If there is, would anyone be interested in maintaining it?

Re-using old icons

[info]jadewinter
[info]rpresources
I'm not sure this is the right place, but I'll ask anyway. I have some icons on older journals that I'd like to re-use. They are all credited appropriately and would be again of course. The reason I'm posting is because the icon journals I got them from are now deleted and I really don't know if it is considered inappropriate to use icons from deleted journals for newer characters/journals/games. So I guess I'm asking is it appropriate in general? Or if someone has deleted their journal is it better to try and choose a new face or icons? These are extremely rarely iconned faces - the deleted journals were the only places I ever saw them, if that makes a difference to anyone's opinion on this.
