Community Rules

This comm is open to anyone to post codes, layouts, resources, tutorials, and requests for help and content. Of course, we do have some rules, so please read through them before jumping in; thank you!

Treat others the way you'd like to be treated. This is not a drama comm, and we expect you guys to be awesome and stay civil. If a situation gets out of hand, please contact a mod, and leave comments intact so we can accurately handle the situation.

Please tag your posts and check out the tagging guide if you have any questions!

■ Very long posts or posts formatted with your own div styling for organization should be behind a cut to save people's f-lists.

Work safe above the cut, please!

■ If posting codes, guides, etc. absolutely do not post content that you did not make. That's stealing, and it's super uncool, bro! If you are posting expanded/edited codes made by yourself using another user's coding as well, please be sure you have their permission (You do not need direct permission if they allow edits to be re-posted in their blanket rules.)
■ Do not post tutorials/links to tutorials that show people how to steal codes from other users. Again: Stealing. Not cool.
When asking for help with something, please check the help tags (help: coding, help: graphics, help: icons, help: layouts, help: other) first to see if your question has already been posted and answered to avoid duplicates.

We do not allow game ads to be posted on this comm since there are so many communities specifically for that already; if you're pimping a game as an addition to a regular post, that's fine. (OK: You post an RP code and mention in the post, oh hey, also I'm running this game! NOT OK: Posts dedicated to game promo.)

We do allow other types of community promos if they are related to RP (icon comms, other types of resource comms, etc.) Just shoot us a comment in our dropbox beforehand and we'll let you know if it's cool to post!

My hidden div isn't working how I want it to work

The idea is that you click the start menu button and the start menu (hidden div) pops open.

Ignoring the fact the menu isn't in the right spot atm but is there a way to get it to hide and appear?

Hey all!

It's been a minute since I posted here. Though I've occasionally added items to this journal, I haven't been sharing in any organized way. That being said, I've maybe re-found a groove (we'll see if it sticks). Mostly, I've been inspired by what seems to be an influx of folks from other sites or corners of this site where expectations/aesthetics are different than those in 'mainstream' IJ comms. It means there's stuff that's been 'basic' to so many of us for so long is brand new to them! To that end, I threw together this post that outlines how some extremely 'basic' stuff is done (think: fancy IJ-cuts, using floats in intro posts, etc.). Figured it throwing it out in this community might be helpful for people looking for this type of info.

Hope everyone is well and can't wait to dig back in to all the beautiful stuff you're creating.

XOXO!!

Is there anything obvious with this code? In particular the margin-bottom ? No matter what I set it too the circle I'm making isn't moving

Actually lets edit this cause tbh the entire code is now not working. Mostly

1. The circle at the bottom
2. The hidden divs - when I click to go to the about link the divs move randomly

The code is below and the live preview of it so far is here

So the website I use to host people and their icons might have increased in price by over double. I've submitted a support ticket going WTAF but just in case can I get ideas of who people use to host their websites with?

So I've beenworking on this idea for awhile - basically a char bio that is a flipping book. I've got the base code down to work for off IJ / as a HTML page but I can't seem to figure out how to convert it to IJ based. Can someone confirm that it isn't possible for this to be converted?

And now for something completely different, a super duper minimalist muselist/cr chart. You can replace the stars with hearts or emoji or whatever you like, you can have multiple headings, it's very flexible.

I had to recode this sucker from scratch before it would play nicely with dreamwidth, so I hope to heck it's useful. As always, check "disable auto-formatting", because lj-raw and I are not friends.

Ages ago there was something that you could bulk friends lock entries with. LJ Sec or something.

Does that still exist and does it still work? If not does anyone have other suggestions? I need to completely lock down multiple journals.

As per Imgur's newest TOS update:
We will be focused on removing old, unused, and inactive content that is not tied to a user account from our platform as well as nudity, pornography, & sexually explicit content. You will need to download/save any images that you wish to save if they no longer adhere to these Terms. Most notably, this would include explicit/pornographic content.
I strongly urge you to save any images used in any layouts/codes that you're currently using, even if they were uploaded by me, because I cannot guarantee with absolute certainty that they're tied to my account, or that I still have the images if you need to reupload them.

Please please please remember to do this by May 15, 2023 so you aren't risking losing anything. I'll be saving as much as I can here in case I need to reupload anything. (Remember, this only applies to Imgur URLs, so if one of my layout uses a Discord, Guilded, or Unsplash URL you're fine to leave them as-is. Which is unfortunate, because those URLs are the ones I can almost completely guarantee I still have. 🙃

Overall, I think it's still safe to use Imgur for your uploads for layouts, but now we just need to be absolutely sure we're logged in when we do our uploads going forward. Finally: I'd appreciate if you could link this post in any IJ-specific servers you're in on Discord/Guilded/etc. and/or on your main journal if you could so that we can try to make sure people don't lose their images.

On a related note: Let me know over on this post if you'd like it if I wandered around online and researched free and paid image hosting options to post a comparison of here so you don't have to?

I did a bit of searching and, while I maybe wasn't using the proper criteria, I've only seen info or pages for styling the CSS for active anchor links. Currently, I'm using the code from [info]tessisamess' hidden click tutorial, but would like to change the background of the current section a person is actively on for easier accessibility. Is this even possible for in-entry codes?

So after reading [info]tessismess' Flexbox tutorial for the billioneth time and finally getting it, I got some inspiration to create a character bio to post. Part of my process is to create an HTML file and work on it from there. Currently the file is hosted on Neocities and it looks and works as intended there. However, when I went to post and make sure that the code did the same on IJ, I got this mess here and I've not been able to figure out where stuff got borked. Below is the code if anyone wants to take a look at it.
