[home sweet home] returning to your world ; meme

You wake up in your bed, maybe. Somewhere. Somewhere you know.

Familiar scents fill your nose, the scents of home. You get up and look around and you come to a stunning, breath-taking (and sickening?) realization. You're home again. Somehow, just now, you were whisked away from that strange place you were, for however long you lived there, with how many people you came to know, and plunked down in your home, your own world. The bubble popped and now you're left wondering... was that even real? Could it have been?

What do you do now?

The phone's ringing. Maybe you should answer that.

How To Play

- Comment to the thread with your character. It will be their "world" they've returned to.
- Other people comment to them, reconnecting or awakening next to them in that home world.
- The where, when, setting & that sort of thing are up to you!
- Freak out, panic, try to figure what to do next.

Bonus:

- Work in a time difference, Lake House style!
- Is something off about this home world? Is it even really yours?

[When Kitty opens her eyes she's not where she expected to be. It's not her walls she's looking at. It's nothing in the dome that she recognizes. Her body tenses and she falls back, trying to gain a more secure position in the unfamiliar space. She doesn't see anyone yet. It seems to be a kitchen. She can feel from the lack of weight that her claws aren't at her wrists, but then she hadn't worn them to bed either and she was still in a tank top and shorts. She stays quiet, trying to listen for signs of others.]

[Meanwhile, someone else is waking up in a different part of the apartment. For him, it's more familiar than anything else but just as terrifying. One moment he remembers nothing but that night's pasta party at Rossi's and the next he remembers everything else, memories flooding in like a tidalwave. At least, he thinks they're memories. Delusions can be so very real sometimes, and seeing as it hasn't been more than a few hours since he said goodnight to the team...

Hands ice cold and trembling with the sickening thought that he's finally succumbed to possibility, Reid makes his way through the apartment, half-blind from an emerging migraine. He moves towards the kitchen, where there's water and clarity and--

Kitty.

Heart hammering against his ribs he lands frozen in the doorway, eyes as wide as they possibly can be. He's not even breathing, afraid that she'll fade away if he does draw a breath.]

[She heard him coming and was ready to subdue whomever it might be. Maybe she could get answers from them. But there was something about the steps that felt oddly familiar. Something that kept her from sinking back into the wall so she could come out and surprise her potential kidnapper. When she sees who it is, she understands the familiarity.]

Reid! You're here too?

[But something is still wrong. Why does he look more surprised to see her than he does about his surroundings?]

[The more the realization that she's here sinks in, the more he's grateful for the fact that he doesn't have a set of claws embedded in his chest right now. That she remembers him, because that was never a guarantee.]

This is my apartment. [Stunned. He lifts a hand to rub at his eyes, trying to work away the lingering headache.] Please tell me that you're actually here.

This isn't... [But the words die on her lips. It's not the home she spent nights in when visiting him in Marina. He means this is his apartment in his world. That's why she's the surprise.]

I'm actually here. [He's not alone in the stunned department. She felt less surprised when she was suddenly in prison than she does right now. Her brain feels almost numb as she tries to push it to make some kind of sense of this. She clings to whatever observations she can pull up.]

Are you okay? [Because he doesn't look it. She takes a step toward him, still feeling wary of everything, but concerned.]

[No, he really isn't because there is a very real possibility that he could be talking to thin air right now. It feels real but delusions always do and although it's painfully easy to make sure if this is real or not, he's too afraid to try. In case there's nothing.

Still, he can't stay here forever and with every second that passes fear is gripping a little tighter into his heart. So after another beat he takes a step closer to her, reaches out towards her. Please give him some proof.]
