[home sweet home] returning to your world ; meme

You wake up in your bed, maybe. Somewhere. Somewhere you know.

Familiar scents fill your nose, the scents of home. You get up and look around and you come to a stunning, breath-taking (and sickening?) realization. You're home again. Somehow, just now, you were whisked away from that strange place you were, for however long you lived there, with how many people you came to know, and plunked down in your home, your own world. The bubble popped and now you're left wondering... was that even real? Could it have been?

What do you do now?

The phone's ringing. Maybe you should answer that.

How To Play

- Comment to the thread with your character. It will be their "world" they've returned to.
- Other people comment to them, reconnecting or awakening next to them in that home world.
- The where, when, setting & that sort of thing are up to you!
- Freak out, panic, try to figure what to do next.

Bonus:

- Work in a time difference, Lake House style!
- Is something off about this home world? Is it even really yours?

Okay. [He takes a moment to push himself into the right mindset. It's harder than he ever thought it would be, because this is as far from work as he could possibly get.]

Right now... you're going through an identity crisis triggered by a significant personal loss, but unlike most cases dealing with loss this is something that constantly affects you. You're not grieving the loss of a loved or dealing with external changes, you're dealing with the loss of self which in turn means that you can't escape from it. Any attempt to distract yourself from it only reminds you of the person you thought you were and now no longer feels like.

Your identity as a mutant was what gave you a sense of belonging in the past, and with the loss of your powers you not only lost your identity but also the thing that connected you to a group. It makes you feel alone and vulnerable, uncomfortable in your own body. Frustrated. Depressed, because you feel like you've lost control over the things you could control better than anyone. You're forced to rely on someone, which only strenghtens the feelings of helplessness.

But... despite all that, you keep trying. That's why it doesn't look so bad.

[He seemed pretty together as far as she could tell, but she'd never known him before that and there was definitely some stress. Truth be told he hasn't really allowed himself to think about it too much, because they never did before - it's dangerous because once you start it's difficult to stop and their work is so damaging. That's how he treated Marina, at least in the beginning. Like work. Like another case. ]

I don't know. [Softly.] I mean, we're trained to adapt quickly to new situations and unfamiliar surroundings, but... Marina was different. In retrospect, I mean, back there I didn't treat it any differently and I don't think I really thought about it so much. I must've though... right?
