[home sweet home] returning to your world ; meme

You wake up in your bed, maybe. Somewhere. Somewhere you know.

Familiar scents fill your nose, the scents of home. You get up and look around and you come to a stunning, breath-taking (and sickening?) realization. You're home again. Somehow, just now, you were whisked away from that strange place you were, for however long you lived there, with how many people you came to know, and plunked down in your home, your own world. The bubble popped and now you're left wondering... was that even real? Could it have been?

What do you do now?

The phone's ringing. Maybe you should answer that.

How To Play

- Comment to the thread with your character. It will be their "world" they've returned to.
- Other people comment to them, reconnecting or awakening next to them in that home world.
- The where, when, setting & that sort of thing are up to you!
- Freak out, panic, try to figure what to do next.

Bonus:

- Work in a time difference, Lake House style!
- Is something off about this home world? Is it even really yours?

And then a week happened

[Things weren't good, but they were better and right now that was all Reid dared to ask for. He got her to eat some and although she was clearly still depressed there was some activity happening on and off throughout the week. Not much, but enough to make him relax some and actually get some proper rest. Not worry quite as much, even if he was still worried.

And now they were here, a week later. His last night, unless he asked for an extension but that didn't seem like a viable option just yet. Maybe later, if things didn't get better but seeing that it had been a week and he'd gotten just about nowhere with finding a way back... maybe it couldn't hurt. He had resources there, even if it would mean spending time away from Kitty.

Speaking of... that was something he had to handle more than anything. Would she be okay? Could he leave her alone for an undetermined amount of time? Only one way to make sure.]

[She wasn't surprised when a day had stretched into a week. She really didn't have much hope when it came to finding a way back. She'd never managed to learn anything about the device that transported them while she was in Marina. What were the odds of constructing another one or tapping into it here? Sure, there were materials she could work with, but that was working on a level beyond her. Beyond Reid too. That place held people smarter and more powerful than what made any kind of sense. She wasn't writing it off completely, but she'd turned her attentions—limited as they were to learning about the world she was trapped in. It helped pull her focus.

She was reading all the newspapers and magazines Reid would bring her. She hadn't really wanted to go out much. She also went through his books on anything historical. It seemed like up to a point their history was in sync enough that she couldn't tell a difference. That was something at least.

When he speaks, she looks up over the newspaper. She's poised to either fold it back up and set it down or to continue depending on what he says.] Yes?

He doesn't want her to think that he doesn't believe she can take care of herself, but at the same time he's not really comfortable leaving her. Will you have a case when you go in? [She's not sure if some days are just spent at the office only or if this definitely means he'll be gone for awhile.

She's not...sure how she feels about it. She thinks it might be better for him to have some time around other people though. She knows she isn't being anything approaching fun. There would be some relief in that. She wouldn't have to feel guilty on top of everything.

On the other hand she is a little...insecure about this world. She doesn't have anyone else she knows here, money, her weapons, her powers, or even a strong working knowledge of how this world works. It reminds her of the way things were when she was very young, but everything about that seems to hurt. All these reminders of what she lost. Of what she never was or had. How much she's changed since she was that little girl who belonged here.]

Maybe... probably. It's hard to tell, but chances are I will.

[And it's this uncertainty that's the real problem. If he could say that he'd definitely be gone, where he'd go, when he'd be back then this would be less of an issue. But he can't and it's all too easy to see why this job kills any chance of healthy relationships.

He shifts again, unsure what to do with himself.]
